In 1856 the old road over the Fernpass, which ran directly below the castle, was relocated, and the big bridge, which is still in use today, was constructed. The old road is now exclusively the domain of hikers. The castle is especially famous for being the favourite destination of Bavarian king Ludwig II.

• Cancellations: If cancelled up to 7 days before date of arrival, no fee will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged.
