The traditional settlement of Samonas is a complete neighbourhood located in the village of Samonas, in the district of Apokoronas, at an altitude of 400 m and at a distance of 25 km from Chania.

The village still preserves its picturesque character since it is really very small and has very few inhabitants. Their main occupation is stock-raising and agriculture.

The settlement is built on a hill slope and it has such an orientation that it offers an impressive view from all dwellings.

Looking over from the settlement's location, we get the impression that we could touch the White Mountains, or dive into the vast Cretan sea.

During night hours, thousands of stars will magnetize your eyes. Musical sounds, vivid colours, captivating scents, pure flavours and the close touch with nature will awaken all your senses and their remembrance will remain with you.

Here you will experience unique moments of relaxation and complete tranquillity in an authentically traditional area, without missing any of the comforts of the modern way of living, which we have quietly incorporated in all our dwellings.

All our dwellings are 2-storey (maisonettes) with unlimited views to the mountain and the sea. They are exclusively built in stone and wood to match their surroundings.

Each is built at a different level due to the ground's steep slope, with common courtyards as well as independent verandas or balconies and quiet corners.

All dwellings have 2 main entrances with traditional rustic locks and big iron keys. They are decorated with many small folklore objects and antiques. All incorporate the same comforts and luxury, although they differ in size and layout.

The reception area is common for all dwellings, presenting the image of a small coffee house where visitors may taste tsikoudia, wine, herbs and local dishes. During their stay, visitors can buy all types of local products as well as a small variety of necessity items. This area provides the possibility of internet connection and also includes a small library, CDs, DVDs and board games. The settlement also includes a large traditional wood-oven and barbecue, swimming pool, well-equipped gym and steam bath.

All the villas have a fully equipped kitchen with a complete set of cutlery and cookware. For a charge, guests can also pre-order a range of food items and drinks to be placed in their villa upon arrival. The property will happily purchase anything extra you think you will need in your villa for your first couple of days stay. Samonas has a small shop on-site, selling everything from home-made sweets, soft and alcoholic drinks, including a wide selection of Greek wines, juices and much more, all Cretan, Greek or organic products. Books, CDs of Greek music and DVDs are all also available.

By Car: - From Chania's airport you can drive to Souda Harbour and then to Rethimno. - After a few kilometres, turn right to the village of Stylos. - Pass through the village and after the last houses, turn again to the right and drive 5 km up to the mountain. - At the top of the hill is Samonas you will find our hotel. The road is winding but the view is amazing.
