The nearby Lagarfljot River flows from Lake Lagarfljót, which is about 15 km from the hotel. Like Scotland's famous Loch Ness, the lake is said to contain a monster. The lake is also close to the beautiful Hallormsstaðarskógur forest, which is the largest in Iceland.

The 2-level extension was added to cope with the increase in visitors to this area of Iceland in recent years.
