June 3, 2011Basically everything, a truly ghastly experience. The owner was surly, verging on hostile. We got the impression we were an imposition. We were given a menu for the evening meal, meals given on the menu were not available, the cooked breakfast which was included in our booking was not available - the continental breakfast was awful. No staff in attendance at breakfast, no butter with the cold unappetising croissant, the jam etc was in small jars which had been very obviously refilled, the honey looked positively dangerous, insufficent plates for the croissant - had to use a bowl. The ensuite was vey cramped, the shower was not properly sealed.

August 13, 2011The owners were friendly and welcoming on arrival. Our meal was well cooked and tasty.
Cleanliness was very poor and room was very cold even though it's summer. Although staff were friendly they decided to close the bar at 8:30 to have there tea which meant we had to retire to our room. They also have dogs which were left to beg at our table during dinner.

July 16, 2011This is more a budget hotel than anything, with a nice view over the hills in the distance. The breakfast was excellent
There was no-one at reception when we arrived . Only a note asking us to call a number. We do not have our mobile with us as we are from New Zealand and calls would be horrendously dear if we had brought our phone with us. We therefore waited for half an hour in the village and on our return contacted a neighbour to call them as there was still noone on reception, even though check in was 4.00 and this was 4.30. If you like dogs then this hotel will be fine but if you don't their being allowed free roam of the hotel is off putting. However, the entire hotel is in need of renovation. The shower area, although cleaned daily, has black mould on the ceilings. .

December 15, 2010Not much. Food good.
If the proprieters believe that they are saving money by keeping the temperature of the hotel to the minimum then they are mistaken. I would have gladly paid a few quid more to have proper heating in the hotel. Even sitting right next to a radiator whilst having dinner, it was unacceptably cold. Decor is dreadful. Cramped room. Sink hanging off. Cluttered. I will never go back.

January 25, 2012January'. This old hotel with its thick stone walls and attractive bar and, joyfully, for weary travelers, a log fire ablaze to complement my *hosts' warm welcome proved a suitable choice. While it may not be in pristine decorative order overall, what matters is that it's clean, comfortable and bearing in mind arrival in winter, convenient; I am told, it is the only b&b open within a 30 miles radius of Bonar Bridge. I was made to feel at home as I enjoyed discovering tales about the hotel and its importance for long distance cyclists. I valued the personal attention, E.G. an extra heater put in my attractive bedroom as supper was being cooked (tasty home-made pea & ham soup; chilli con carne). My firm mattress helped give a good night's sleep as I wore extra pullovers (I like open windows). For breakfast, after a bowl of warming porridge, I introduced Lesley and Iain* to the novelty of Marmite on toast beneath poached eggs! With its stunning views over the Kyle of Sutherland at dawn, I left 'Dunroamin' as a grateful guest filled with pleasant memories of my brief stay. I'll return!

November 15, 2011Its easy to be put off by a bit of a pealing paint but I guess its the welcome which is important - the owners were extremely pleasant people and made me feel very at home - and they rustled up a pretty decent fish and chips in the bar that evening.

October 16, 2011The couple who run the place were wonderful. Their hospitality more than made up for the limitations in the facilities.
The decor was pretty faded and the whole place had a shabby air. In fact from the outside when we arrived it looked abandoned.

October 3, 2011Excellent breakfast, the staff did everything possible to make our stay comfortable: additional heaters, hot-water bottles, additional blankets.
Though it's an over 200 years old building, the Dunroamin Hotel hat its problems with the cold weather and a high humidity within the rooms.
