This pub-with-rooms has recently been refurbished to a luxurious standard. It is set in beautiful countryside 4 miles (6.4 km) from Longleat and from Stourhead.

Each boutique-style bedroom is styled with exquisite taste and boasts modern amenities. These include a flat-screen TV, a DVD player and Egyptian-cotton sheets. Two of the rooms have a free-standing bath.

The restaurant serves modern British pub food 6 days a week, and uses the very best local ingredients. The cosy bar regularly hosts live music, quiz nights and poker tournaments.

The Somerset Arms is a very child-friendly hotel, with a large garden for children to play in, as well as a vegetable patch to explore with the gardener, Jim. There are chickens to feed and eggs to collect with Lisa in the mornings. Henry, the resident Great Dane, is brilliant with kids.

• Cancellations: If cancelled up to 2 days before date of arrival, 15 percent of all nights will be charged. If cancelled later or in case of no-show, the total price of the reservation will be charged.
