Located at the confluence of the Aveyron and Auterne Rivers, overlooking the Plateau de Segala, the medieval city of Rodez was divided in two. The Place du Bourg, the centre of the section that served the interest of the counts of Rouergue, is lined with shops and elegant 16th century houses. The Place de la Cité, home to the bishops of Rodez, is dominated by the 13th century cathedral of Notre Dame.
