York Hotel, Rome - Area Information
The hotel is 15 minutes far from the historic centre and 5 minutes from the Mausoleum of S. Costanza and the Catacombs of S. Priscilla.
Mausoleum of S Costanza:
One of the most beautiful and best-conserved monuments in Rome, Costanza or Costantina, daughter of the Emporer Costantino, had it constructed. It is in Via Nomentana and is absorbed by and adjacent to the Basilica of S. Agnese. Its circular interior is divided by 12 columns and is rich in celebrated mosaics. Today weddings can be held there.
Basilica and Catacombs of Agnese:
S. Agnese is one of the most beautiful and intact Bizantine churches of Rome, and one of the most famous cemeterial basilicas. From here you have access to the catacombs that extend for several kilometres, on 3 levels. S. Agnese, a young Roman martyr, was buried in these catacombs, in Via Nomentana, where her family's property was found.
Catacombs of Priscilla:
The Catacombs of S. Priscilla were probably founded by Priscilla herself and go back to 91 AD. They are in the green area adjacent to Villa Ada and are reachable by Via Salaria.
