The Orwell Hotel - Hotel description
Close to the town centre and just metres from Felixstowe Railway Station, this impressive Victorian hotel is rich in original charm and traditional character, with free parking for guests.
Originally dating back to 1898, the Orwell Hotel is a traditional, old-fashioned hotel, which underwent a major refurbishment during the autumn of 2003. The property was initially built for Lord Tollemarch. Today, the spacious public areas are wood-panelled and traditionally decorated with a wealth of charm and elegance. There are 58 en suite rooms, all of which are tastefully furnished.
A full English Breakfast is included in the price. Westerfield’s Restaurant has an elegant atmosphere and offers both a table d’hôte and an à la carte menu.
Felixstowe is an Edwardian resort and, like the hotel itself, it still retains much of its original charm. The town features beautiful south-facing gardens, many attractions, safe beaches and a paved promenade. The hotel is just a mile (1.6 km) from the town’s port.

December 10, 2011Made welcome from the moment we entered the hotel, the car park was near the entrance and the room was warm and cosy. Dining is exquisite. The Location is ideal for the Beach and it is a short 5 minutes walk to the shops.
The shower was poor due to low water pressure.

December 10, 2011The traditional Edwardian/Victorian opulence in the public part of the hotel.
The fixtures and fittings were stained and old fashioned. It was very cold because the double glazing window that opened was missing a latch and didn't quite close properly. The shower was feeble; they were redecorating just outside our room which meant it smelled badly of gloss paint.

February 6, 2012A comfortable hotel which was very good value for money. The room was clean and warm but a little shabby and could have done with updating but for the price £56 a night it was more than adequate. The hotel staff were couteous and friendly and very efficient. An excellent breakfast in a beautiful dining room. We also found the location very convenirent with safe, secure parking
Nothing- all our needs were met.

February 1, 2012Good efficient staff who dealt with any problems (key card did not work at 2am) promptly and bent over backwards to help. Ample parking. Clean room. Cant comment on breakfast as I missed it by having my first lay in since my 4 year old was born! Bar stays open until you go to bed.

December 19, 2011We had stayed there before, 14 years ago. Not a lot has changed and the ambience is pleasant. Has a touch of faded elegance which we quite enjoyed. Excellent dining a good 'English' breakfast. Definitely stay there again.

December 4, 2011Clean. Elegant.Grand. Excellent food. Friendly efficient staff.
The price of the wine I thought was over the top. £25 for sparkling wine you can get in a shop for about £6. Obviously you'd expect to pay more but 4 to 5 times as much? But I felt compelled to order it because I was celebrating.

November 29, 2011Good position close to Felixstowe town centre but little or no traffic noise. Staff very helpful even when we returned and ordered coffees at 11.45pm. Hotel has character but tariff we paid was very reasonable. Would stay again if we visited the area again.
Tap mixer on bath was very wobbly and took a while to work out how to operate.

November 25, 2011The Orwell is a fabulous and luxurious hotel, set in beatiful 'surrounding' grounds. It's right in the town centre across from the rail station with the sea just a short walk away... A perfect hotel with helpful/knowledgable staff - I would 'certainly' recomend it to al... L! Roger James (singer&songwriter) Watford, England, uk.

Well positioned for shopping and acess to railway and bus facilities. The lounges and His Lordships Library were maintained as original and very comfortable and relaxing. Outside, the gardens were well kept and the car park large and adequate
We felt that the room did not match the quality of the rest of the hotel the beds were very hard and uncomfortable and the bathroom although not in anyway dirty was a bit tired looking and the shower and taps were difficult to operate easily.
