In 1293, the Schlosshotel was built by Ludwig the Grim and used as a hunting lodge overlooking the Isar valley.

In 1879, the hunting lodge became a guest house. It has hosted personalities including the Bavarian comedian, cabaret artist, and film producer Karl Valentin.
