The White Swan Hotel, Middleham - Hotel Description
The White Swan is now Middlham's finest hotel, in a prominent position overlooking the market square. The hotel has 17 individually furnished en-suite bedrooms and combines a traditional flagstone bar, serving a good range of cask ales and wines by the glass, with a contemporary 60 seat brasserie, serving morning coffee, lunch and dinner daily. Middleham castle overlooks the hotel and the town is famous for its horseracing links and is an ideal base for walkers and visitors to the dale.
The White Swan is one of Middleham's most popular and attractive inns, recently refurbished and extended due to the purchase of the town's old post office. The hotel now boasts a 60 seat brasserie and 5 new bedrooms.
The 17 rooms are individually decorated and have either a contemporary feel or a more traditional flavour, though all retain the charm of this historic inn, whilst incorporating the most up-to-date facilities.
The brasserie serves morning coffee, lunches including a range of sandwiches and dinner. The menu provides the very best modern, cosmopolitan cuisine, from pizza and pasta dishes to seasonal game and fish. The brasserie also has an early bird menu and a 'plat du jour' dish.
The atmospheric bar is full of cosy ambiance, with traditional flag floor and open fire in the winter, providing an ideal setting for a cosy drink.

These rooms are newly converted in a contemporary style. The bathrooms are tiled throughout. Both rooms overlook the cobbled market place of Middleham, with the castle only a stone's throw away. They are ideal rooms from which to watch the daily routine of the town's horse racing fraternity!

The area is steeped in history. The castles of Middleham, Richmond and Castle Bolton are within easy reach, as are Jervaulx and Fountains Abbey. The market town of Leyburn is 10 minute drive away, with Harrogate, Ripon and York all within an hour's drive. Middleham is a prominent racing town, and is known as the 'Newmarket of the North', with many of the country's top trainers based in the town. As such, the racecourses of Catterick, Ripon, Wetherby, Thirsk and York are within an hour's drive. Local activities include the Forbidden Corner (a grotto) for the young and old, whilst Black Sheep brewery at Masham (20 minutes away) provide tours and a taste of the local brew. For food lovers, Hawes is the home of Wensleydale cheese, where tours can also be taken, and Brymor Ice Cream is also a favourite for those with a sweet tooth. Fishing, walking, tennis, pony trekking and golf can all be arranged locally.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Northallerton which is a 40 minute drive away. There is a limited local transport/taxi service.
