The Staff were outstanding, very obliging, polite, and first class with their service ." (99238331)

The situtuation there is quite breathtaking, the views over looking the lake are fabulous, the service and accomodation was faltless.

Our only problem we had was the cuisine, even though the menu was no doubt cooked to perfection, it's not what we were used to, and so as a result failed to understand the pricing for such small portions !!

Room facilities basic, shower thermostat faulty and had to be moved to another room. Food overpriced for nouvelle cuisine. Hotel old fashioned.

"This was a wonderful hotel stay, and we will make every effort to return some day. As the first part of our honeymoon my new wife and I just wanted to relax and recover. Upon stepping out of the car on our arrival we had already begun to feel better. The views from the hotel terrace overlooking late Windermere were spectacular, and the accommodations were equally special. We were greeted by a wonderful and comfortable room overlooking part of the gardens, as well as a bottle of Champaign & assortment of fine chocolates as congratulations from the owner. Every aspect of our stay was personalized, and well attended to which is exactly what we expected from a hotel of this caliber. My wife and I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone in need of a Lake District break." (99135982)

The hotel was a wonderful and quiet place where we felt like we could relax and recover from a long trip. Additionally, the staff did everything within their considerable power to make sure that all of our needs were well attended to.

The food at the lindthwaite is excellent, the views from the hotel grounds are beautiful and the staff are helpful. Wifi worked perfectly and had adequate connection speed.

The room (standard) was small. The bathroom was not in great decorative order. The renovation works going on at the time of our stay were noisy at times.

"The attention to detail was great. When I booked I informed the hotel that my fiance was wheat intolerant which they catered for. The chef also (at my request) baked an excellent wheat free birthday cake and they brought it out at the perfect time (unprompted) and all sand happy birthday (don't think any one them have a future on X-factor though :-) I will definately go back and would recommend it to anyone that wants to treat their beloved." (99003624)

Heated bathroom mirror.. Excellent. The power shower was REALLY good to. the 'missus' was most impressed at that one (but it took her ages to get out of the shower :-)

"We chanced upon Linthwaite. It was my husband's 40th birthday and I wanted to treat us both to a night away. Most hotels in this area offer only 3-night packages at this time of year and we had a babysitter for only one night. Linthwaite offered us one night - what a peice of luck! I went the whole hog and booked a deluxe room. It had a wonderful view over the gardens, with a small balcony. Although it's more than we would spend on a regular basis, it was worth every penny, and we had a celebration weekend to remember for a long time. We shall certainly go back when we have another excuse to treat ourselves." (99404340)

The service was attentive without being intrusive. The staff went that extra mile to offer better than run-of-the-mill-service. The waiters addressed us by name in the restautant, which I've only ever experienced before in rather 'stuffy' hotels. At Linthwaite they manage to get the balance right.

"We now have a preffered room having stayed in three. As I have an intermittent disability the happenchance of spending time in the room which can be used for those with a disability has served us well. The hotel makes one feel cosseted a combination of the comfort of the rooms, the different areas in which to lounge, the use of a computer set aside in a small room, copious amounts of information set out in well cared for files, and above all the attentiveness of the staff. We appreciated the consistent standard in the dining room for both breakfast and dinner and if presentation and well prepared food put together in a balanced menu are important to you then it would be hard to find fault. The subtle presence of the general manager ensures a smooth and yet unstuffy service. There is clearly a team approach to the ownership of each request which seem to be handled smoothly and professionaly. For every person who works with people and wants cohesion this is a first class lesson!" (3305168130)

We have had three different rooms all of which were of a consistently high standard.

There was nothing to dislike in that the standard was consistent.

Food is value for money so dont be put off by price but I must say it was the canapes, starters and sweets that I thought stood out more than the main courses. Stayed in August and although not sunny I found the rooms a bit too warm. However I bet it is really cosy in winter." (3305173673)

Beautiful setting. Beautiful grounds. Excellent food. Very nice room.

Minor criticism, which seems almost churlish - the English breakfast (very tasty as it was) somehow missed that delightful greasy intermingling of flavours. We compared it with an opera singer trying to sing pop.

The conservatory, dressed in a colonial style is an excellent addition from which one can enjoy the views in poor weather. "We loved our stay at Linthwaite. It is really the most perfect location. The management of the hotel exploit this location marvellously, and channel it down to the relaxed yet attentive atmosphere that the hotel's staff convey at all times. This complements the understated, unstuffy design throughout the hotel (and grounds). The food was absolutely top class at each or three breakfasts and dinners. We would have loved to have had the time to sample afternoon teas and relax in the comfy public areas, but the lure of the magnificent Cumbrian Fells won out this time. We'll be back!" (3304674996)

"An excellent place for untroubled and indulgent relaxation if you like good service and excellent food in a comfortably stylish hotel in a beautiful and quiet setting. You may lose out on the ubiquitous air conditioning and on-site 'spa' facilities of the bigger (and more bland) estabishments, while bedrooms seem adequate in size rather than generous. But you gain so much more in elegance of surroundings, personality, intimate charm and good attention to detail. In an area where over-stuffed plates and over-cooked meals of lamentable standard seem to be the rule, this exception is a gastronomic oasis of wonderful food and drink." (3304926677)

I particularly enjoyed the meals both their presentation service and quality. The situation of the hotel was very good with lovely views over the lake and gardens.

I did not have any dislikes but would like to suggest that a hotel of this quality should perhaps be looking at providing some on site leisure facilities rather than them being available locally.

"I chose this hotel as a special treat for our 35th Wedding Anniversary and I must say we were not disappointed as the Hotel staff catered for your every need and make every effort to anticipate your requirements. They are all cheerful and always have a ready smile for you. In fact we were very lucky as our arrival coincided with a display over Lake Windermere by the Red Arrows and we had a marvelous view from the veranda. The next day was the 16th anniversary of the owner's, Mr Mike Bevans, purchase of the Hotel and we were invited to a Champagne buffet lunch for his suppliers and friends (it was originally to be a BBQ but was rained off). This was followed by rowing on the private Tarn, croquet, putting and Wellie throwing (for Chariy). Their four course dinners have a good selection and the Chef is (in my opinion) a skilled exponent of Nouvelle Cuisine with every item on the plate cooked to perfection. All in all a very pleasant visit and one which we will definately repeat." (3305048720)

"Generally we liked the hotel and would use it again. Generally there was an eye to detail within the hotel itself and the staff seemed well trained and attentive. However as two women we were unerved to be given the outside room; to not be informed it was so, and surprised the hotel did not think it a matter to be told before booking in. I would like to have known what the Luxury Rooms within the hotel were like given our experience. This was a good hotel in principle and I feel the room did not really make the luxury grade yet the hotel itself did. We were well looked after by very helpful staff who did respond to all requests. The hotel setting was everything it advertised. I think the one downside of service by staff was that on the occasion where we did not dine in the hotel our coffee and drinks order on the terrace 'got 'lost'. We waited for 30 minutes and then were spotted by a waiter who was familiar to us who asked where our drinks were! He corrected the error but there was definitely a trend to servicing dining customers and not troubling with guests not dining." (3305043181)

The room was clean and a reasonable size, it was very clean and well serviced daily with a bed turn down service in the evening. The person servicing the room responded quickly to a written request and was most helpful.

As this was booked as a Luxury Room I thought the bathroom far too small. The curtains were not hooked up properly, hooks missng. There was a flower vase with water but no flowers on our arrival. We were not told on booking or confirmation, or arrival, that the room was one of two outside rooms. This meant that the door led on to the driveway. This posed a question of personal security which as two women we were very aware of at night. I feel we should have been told and the hotel should have raised the issue of security with us given we were two women. Also given it was a 'Luxury Room' going outside, especially in the event of rain, to breakfast and dinner did not seem too much of a luxury. We did find the room was also very noisy. One party wall was the dining room so there was banging in the morning, early, and later at night at the end of dinner being served. The room above could be heard whenever someone was in it; door opening, closing, tap running, toilet flushing, water running, footsteps etc. This was also true of the adjoing room. I am not sure if this really was a luxury room, although I could see the size of the bedroom may be a deciding factor. However the room did not have any clothes drawers other than 3 inch deep night and dressing table drawers. On booking I said we would prefer a lower floor if possible. it may be this was the key to why we had the room. I do feel there should have been some confirmation at least on arrival about the appropriateness of the room.

Request a cooling fan and was pleased to have received one. I felt that the hotel knew our exact movements and so were able to ensure we had what we needed withoug being disturbed. Breakfast was great, being able to choose anything from the menu within the same price of the room (no hidden extras here). Dinner was quite pricey but I understand that this really is top of the line dining, so expect to pay Central London prices. Next time I would like to try the dinner at least once! Overall a relaxing stay and sittin around on the veranda doing nothing had never been so enjoyable. Was nice to see the owner in the hotel speaking to guests and being accessible." (3305067604)

"This hotel combines a traditional elegant look with some contemporary touches such a LCD TVs and CD players in the rooms. Thought is given to the smaller touches which enhances the whole experience, such as bath robes, an iron, a wardrobe with an integral light. The staff are without exception friendly and highly professional. The service at meal times is the right mixture of discreteness and attentiveness. The evening meal was superb, being imaginative and beautifully presented. Although the portion sizes are small, this enables you to enjoy all of the courses without feeling over- faced and the meal does include canapes, an amuse bouche and petit fours, all of which were divine. Sitting outside on the terrace overlooking Lake Windermere and the hills beyond whilst sipping a gin and tonic is difficult to beat." (3305004434)

The staff are very friendly and professional and the service was excellent. The evening meal was superb and the service spot on.

"Fantastic location. Food was absolutely superb. Staff did everything they could to make our stay perfect. They were all friendly and interested in us. This is the best hotel we have stayed at in England and we would definitely go back. The three days we spent at Linthwaite were an absolute pleasure. We cannot praise it enough." (3304824941)
