Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"Overall I was very impressed with the hotel, nothing was to much trouble, the staff were kind and friendly especially to my small children aged 5 and 6 years old. The hotel was also very clean and tidy, which I always notice when away with my children." (99510958)
I was most impressed that the hotel knew I would be arriving with my 2 small children, which I said 1 bed for all would be fine, when I arrived my room had had a single bed made up and I had also been given a large room which I thought was very personnal and kind. Also it makes a change not to have to ask for things...so many thanks.
Nothing, everything was excellant

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"We have stayed before and found the hotel owners and staff extremely welcoming, being a smaller hotel it gives the personal touch, and as we do farmhouse bed and breakfast and self catering and enjoy people, it is very noticable that all concerned enjoy their job, which customers notice. The dinner and breakfast was of high quality. Our room had all anybody would require. Thank you." (99995582)
Friendly atmosphere

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"The web booking and check-in was simple. There was no vegetarian option on the menu but chef did offer a number of alternatives; dinner was OK. The photo gives the impression that the hotel is set off the road but it fronts onto the main road, however being in a rear bedroom meant that there was little traffic noise." (99904301)
The accommodation was simple and clean

Breakfast good
long way from reception -- could have been suggested that we drive car round with luggage. Locking door on room was an art, instructions eventually called for.

The room was lovely and the lady members of staff were good too.
Mike checked us in and appeared totally devoid of humour. He appeared to be more focused on rushing around than the guests. There was a party of people who were smoking in the bar on arrival which we did not expect with no-smoking signs posted.

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"We would have liked to know there was a swimming pool available for guests. We felt the service at dinner was not good. The wine waiter opened the wine away from our table then placed the ice bucket next to the table and walked away! Shouldn't he have poured at least the first glass of wine (or even asked us to taste it. The cooked breakfast was inedible - swimming in fat which had obviously been used for all the previous breakfasts that morning. We did point this out but nobody apologised - the breakfast was just removed." (3305126561)
Bathroom facilities: provision of toiletries
It was unbearable hot despite a fan in the rook

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"I would like to have known about the building work although it did not cause me any problems. On the whole it was a very enjoyable stay. The breakfast was excellent, freshly cooked and hot. The summer sizzler dinner offer was also very good value. The staff were all very friendly." (3305006043)
It was clean, airy and spacious and the trouser press was very welcome
The shower wasn't very hot or powerful. It was also a disabled room so there wasn't any bath.

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel was recommended by a friend and lived up to what we expected." (3304494077)
We stayed in one of rooms adjacent to the hotel. The room was very nice and the bathroom was excellent. We had dinner in the evening and the standard was very good.
Nothing at all.

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel was excellent but the web pictures were deceiving in that it was on the main road but didn't appear so on the picture - although traffic noise was not a problem when we stayed" (2993562)
Bed was comfortable, bar & breakfast were excellent
if I was being really picky, the decor of bathroom was a bit 'tired'

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"An enjoyable stay, albeit I was there for business reasons. The hotel is on the outskirts of Ilminster, unpretentious and fronting directly onto a fairly busy road, but with pleasant gardens and a swimming pool at the rear. The public areas have been tastefully refurbished and the bedroom was spacious and thoughtfully equiped. The members of staff were without exception very helpful and friendly and this is what makes the difference between an ordinary and good hotel. This is a good hotel." (2697401)
Nice atmosphere. Helpful and friendly staff.
Can't think of any.

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"good value accommodation when booking over the internet. A lot cheaper than booking direct with the hotel. Part of a chain so I knew the standard to expect. Breakfast was included which along with the early check in made it a better option than the local Travel Lodge. We did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on that. Parking was a bit of a problem as the car park is awkward shape but was okay as long as everyone else parked sensibly!" (2670206)
Nice room, friendly staff, good breakfast

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"Breakfast was very good, and the older parts of the hotel are of historically and architecturally interesting. Lovely fireplaces. Our problem with the lights was dealt with promptly and with good humour." (2708047)
There were building works in progress. The newer accommodation block, or maybe just our room, was not well finished and the lights failed/fused.

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"Good, but spoilt by noise." (2546708)
We were not informed that a singles night was being held the night we stayed. This disturbed or nights sleep and also made a quite night in the bar impossible. We complained and was refunded the price of our bar snacks £15-00. Road noise was also very loud in the morning.

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"I got the impression from the picture on the website that it was completely in its own grounds, whereas the front of the hotel is actually on the road. Fortunately the receptionist, who was extremely helpful, kindly changed us from our original room overlooking the road to a more modern room at the back where we were able to open the windows." Lovely back garden with swimming pool

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"Overall a great hotel, small friendly, family run. The staff were available, attentive and helpful. Outside Swimming pool is a nice touch and there are some great walks in the local town only a few minutes away on foot. Food was reasonably priced, selection was what you would expect from a small hotel and tasted great." (2458963)
The Hotel was completely flexible, with the several requests I had, from food to extending my check out time. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. Food was great.
Have easier access to sitting/dining areas outside

Best Western The Shrubbery, Ilminster - Reviews & Ratings"A lovely hotel, great staff and spacious room. We travelled with a young toddler over night with a late arrival and the staff were excellent and very accomodating. If we had been staying longer we would have loved to have made use of the lovely outdoor pool and spent some time in the beautiful surrounding area. Highly recommended and would definately stop there again." (2332583)
Lovely clean spacious room. Helpful staff. The call back to confirm reciept of my email and confirm the booking.

Very little
Staff - I waited at the reception desk for 10 minutes awaiting a member of staff to turn up to answer the bell, finally I had to phone them to get someone to come out. They were apologetic but.... At breakfast again I had to stand for several minutes before someone came to deal with me - there were only 4 others in the restaurant at the time.

"We had a great time. This is a family run hotel - customer service is great and everyone working there was friendly and efficient. The chef is a star - wonderful breakfasts and dinners. He even asked us what we would like to eat on our last evening. We would go there again tomorrow. Thanks to everyone there." (99040620)
The view from the window, the large room, well-appointed bathroom, large comfortable bed. Unlike most hotel bedrooms, the lighting was good.
