we always stay at the phoenix as it vry central for what we do in norfolk
i wish the television was more upto date as both of us are diabetic so we cannot drink so we spend a lot of time in the evening in the room and as the t.v. has only 4 channelswe find this very poor

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"Well managed, very poor view, esp as the windows needed to be open due to warm weather. This spoilt an otherwise satisfactory stay." (107285079)
Bathroom was good, modern and in particular the shower was excelent. Kettle etc. Snacks, soap laundry all high standard
View of room to the back was very disappointing, esp with noise & smell of kitchen extractors. The room fan didn't work

Room good, food good, parking reasonable.

I booked 5 double rooms & received an email to confirm the booking of 5 rooms. when we arrived at the hotel we where told that there was only one room under my name. The assisant manager then tried to find other accomidation within a 10 miles radius to find that every where was fully booked up. We then had to share 3 rooms. Not happy about any of it at all. Had to wait over 30 mins for our evening meal when nodody else was eating.

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel is situated in the centre of a pleasant town. We chose to stay there because it was very keenly priced. But for the noisy fan we would have rated it much higher. " (97480361)
Staff at the hotel were polite. Facilities were adequate. The cooked breakfast was excellent.
There was a noisy fan on at the rear of the hotel all night. This made it difficult to sleep (even with the windows closed). The evening catering was not up to the standard of the morning catering.

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"An okay hotel, we would use again. The car park was small, only 6 cars, though parking in the street seemed to be without restriction. It looked a bit 'tired' and in need of a bit of tlc. Very clean room and bathroom." (97558773)
Very clean. One of the cleanest bathrooms we have seen recently.
There was a massive problem with damp around the window turning the wallpaper black. We could not make the radiator work, so had to use the extra blankets in the cupboard.

Central location in Dereham with easy parking. Value for the money paid with rooms adequate for period of stay.
The club/pub next door emptying their used bottles in the bottle bank after their premisis had shut late at night causing sleep disturbance.

The only thing I believe that let the hotel down slightly was that the tables in both the dinning room and the bar could do with regular through cleaning." (97093116)
Very Comfortable

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"General review very good. Hotel appeared very clean throughout. Apart from noisy fan in room and passing traffic on the one-way system outside, still managed to get some quality sleep. Hotel was a little difficult to find because of the one-way traffic system in Dereham." (97028849)
Warm welcome and helpful staff. Comfortable bed. Superb breakfast.
Noisy fan in room. Decided to have evening meal in hotel, but due to non availability of preferred choice of food had to settle for something else. Again beer that I wanted was off in bar, had to settle for lager. Limited car parking. Hotel staff suggested that we parked in the vets surgery car park nearby. Felt uneasy about this as there was a notice warning people that their vehicles would be clamped.

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"This was only a flying visit from Spain for a relatives 70th birthday. I would not choose this hotel ordinarily. On question below regarding recommendation, I would recommend the hotel if visited in similar circumstances to those of my visit. I would not recommend it for a longer stay." (99274883)
Proximity to relatives. Breakfast very good although fruit salad was tinned and not fresh.
Bar - table not clean. obvius that someone had had a meal prior to our sitting at the table, salt spilled sticky table etc. This was not cleaned while we were there. No beer mats for drinks. Bar girl cleared a couple of other tables and wiped those over but never noticed ours. Bar not busy. Room - no hairdryer. Bathroom very small, sink in main part of bedroom

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"I would have liked to know that breakfast was included in the price of the room. I would have liked to know that there was no lift - we were on the third floor which was difficult at times. I would have also liked to know that it was also an Inn although this did not have any detremental effect on our stay and that it was on a fairly busy street. Great value for money." (3305023394)
The sound construction and cleanliness
Due to the current heatwave the room was very hot (no air-conditioning or fan in the room) and noise from the street outside due to the central location of the hotel. Very limited car parking space.

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel was very flexible with our requirements. We had to reschedule our wedding to the UK after our wedding planner in Crete messed things up. Although we didn't use the hotel for the wedding (only for meeting, lunch and D, B&B) and we were a very small group (only 5), the hotel staff literally bent over backwards for us to make the occasion special. This was a quiet period - I believe the hotel had only 6 people staying in 4 rooms that night." (3304529238)
Clean, comfortable and of a higher standard than we envisaged. Prices were reasonable and location (for us) ideal. We would estimate that both the bedroom and the common areas must have been refurbished no longer than last year. All the staff were polite.
The only fault is that we would have expected the windows to be double glazed bearing in mind the street is quite busy. We stay in many hotels (frequently Travelodges) and always take ear plugs anyway!

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"Generally good, with as stated friendly, welcoming staff. Handy central location. Attractive building, much more so than it looks on website, where it looks a bit like a warehouse. Staff greeted me by name, as I had told them I would be arriving late. It would have been helpful to have been able to get some food - although there were some nice biscuits in the room. The only slight problem was that Dereham itself is quite difficult to get to by public transport - I had to get a taxi from Wymondham, following a long train journey. Getting there required a good deal of preliminary planning. I also thought that the tariff was on the expensive side for single occupancy, but I could only find two hotels in Dereham on the internet and the other was even more expensive. On the whole a positive experience, and I would stay there again." (3304440787)
Clean, quiet, (Wednesday night), friendly, welcoming staff with good local knowledge. No sign of the toenail clippings mentioned in an earlier review!
Brochure in room stating hotel facilities had such small type I couldn't read it. Food could be available later - at least bar snacks.

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"I had a room which was at the front of the hotel and unfortunately there was a lot of noise from yobs screeching tyres and racing along the road past the hotel. As I have to have a window open at night this noise kept me awake. I realise this was not a fault of the hotel, although I do feel the manager could have a word with the police to try and stop this nuisance from happening in the future. I realise I could have asked to move rooms, but as I was only there for 2 nights and had already spent one night in his room, I closed the window the second night to minimise the noise. Also I was not impressed with the food which I found rather bland. I am going to answer to the next question that I would recommend the hotel, but I would tell people to ask for a room at the back, and not to expect too much from the food." (2551360)
The room was very clean

The bar area and
There were toenail clippings on the carpet by the side of the bed when we arrived, a chambermaid did come and vacuum them up when asked, but not the greatest of first impressions. If I were the hotel, I would also be tempted to call the previous guest in that room and ask them why they feel it's OK to leave clippings on the carpet. The room generally looked a bit shabby, the kettle had seen better days, the long life milk for the coffee was due to expire the next day, a couple of the lightbulbs needed to be replaced.

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"I think this hotel needs a revamp decoratively, and cleanliness in the restaurant could be improved. Although the road outside had a 20 mph speed limit it felt like sleeping next to race track." (2448253)
The room was adequate in size and facilities.
The hotel overall would benefit from decoration. Although the food in the restaurant was excellent the tablecloths were stained and covered in crumbs. The cleanliness of the restaurant definitely needs to be improved.

Phoenix Hotel, Dereham - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel was a little difficult to find on the first occasion due to the slightly complicated one way system in the centre of Dereham (should probably have down loaded a map!). Friendly staff, well appointed room with new towels everyday and quality biscuits with the tea set. Bar meal menue good, restaurant not tried but menu looked interesting. Excellent breakfast included in the price. Would definitely us again if holidaying in that part of Norfolk again." (2276210)
Comfortable room, friendly staff.
Parking is limited, probably not possible to improve due to limitations of town centre site. More power sockets for lap-tops and battery chargers as well as TV and kettle.
