Sir William Fox Hotel, South Shields - Reviews & Ratings"Good value, quiet, pleasant hotel with helpful staff." (108957900)
Pleasant, helpful staff. Large comfortable room and bathroom, pleasant public roooms. Quiet, peaceful location. Very good value for money.
Unfortuantely the shower cubicle in theen-suite bathroom leaked and soaked the bathroom floor and part of the bedroom carpet. We were offerred an alternative room, however we chose to stay as first room was superior to alternative apart from the leaky shower! We had a lovely bath too! No other bad points.

Excellent accommodation. Clean and comfortable. Hotel fully booked so were upgraded to apartment by sea front.
Trying to find entrance to hotel. Very draughty windows in apartment made lounge / diner cold.

Friendly and attractive staff.
Difficult to find at night. An outside light on the sign would be helpful. The shower room is small yet the wardrobe is huge. A couple of faults with the shower and WC functioning, but overall a good place to stay - I'd go again at the price I paid.

Sir William Fox Hotel, South Shields - Reviews & Ratings"Wonder why they don't enforce the non-smoking law." (107188566)
Sorted out the problem in the end but the problem should not haave arisen.
Our room stank of smoke - previous guest had stayed for 3 months and hotel had not enforced the non-smoking law. We refused to stay - for our own health and that of our 7 month old baby. They found us a brand new apartment - not at the hotel, but this was an accepatbel solution.

Sir William Fox Hotel, South Shields - Reviews & Ratings"We thought the hotel was expensive for the quality presented, and there were not enough staff available at any time." (107105806)
Took ages to check in as no staff were present. Room keyes were missing and had to wait a long time to be served at breakfast as no staff were in evidence.

Comfy bed, clean. Decent breakfast.
No information about South Shields in our room. Would have preferred butter instead of margarine with breakfast.

Attractive and quiet residential area. Great breakfast. Peaceful bar in hotel. Comfy bed.
A few bulbs not working, door to bathroom passageway didn't close properly, but they were only minor niggles.

Sir William Fox Hotel, South Shields - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel is nice and neat, quiet and tidy. It is close to all amenities and so is quite handy. I would have a more varied menu e.g. buffet breakfast. I would also take a look at the accessibility to your internet connection as some places in the hotel cannot connect due to weak signal strength. This is the only thing that would make me not come back. The internet is essential in today's world and when I was looking for a place to stay it was the fact that your hotel had broadband that I chose it." (97890720)
The rooms are nice and well kept. The beddings, bathroom, sink, etc are clean and give you the impression that cleanliness is a top priority. The staff were also very helpful and quite friendly. The place is good value for money.
The wireless broadband connection was terribly poor in the room I was staying in. I could not get connected because the signal was too low. You should place boosters round the hotel to raise signal. This will help to keep people coming back as the internet is essential for many people.

Sir William Fox Hotel, South Shields - Reviews & Ratings"Nice accommodation in a lovely building in a picturesque area of South Shields. Spacious, clean bedroom and bathroom, with wireless broadband. Some of the decor looked a bit tired and cheap, but generally a very good value for money stay. Staff were friendly too." (97871432)
Large, modern bedroom. Large, clean bathroom.
Noisy plumbing.

Sir William Fox Hotel, South Shields - Reviews & Ratings"I saw a couple of doors open and the rooms looked very nice, but my room itself was very small and cramped. The toilet had a pocket door which did not work, and the toilet was right next to the window, which made it awkward as I had to pull the shade everytime I needed to use the facilities. The carpet was torn. There was little shelf space and everything was cramped, with the exception of the wardrobe which was large but had only three clothes hangers. No general convenience items like hairdryer. The dining area and the area that they turned into a bar on the second floor were quite nice. I think there are better deals for the money, but I was limited in my choices over a bank holiday weekend. Also, no reception person was there when I checked out on a Sunday, and I waited 20 minutes. I tried to call the main number from my mobile to no answer, and even tried ringing the outside entrance bell but no one came. I eventually just let myself into the area where the reception was and left my keys on the counter. Hopefully I am checked out with no extra charges!" (97573645)
It was obvious that the hotel is trying to promote an image of prestige and they were trying to spruce up the aesthetics
Cramped and a bit inconvenient.

Sir William Fox Hotel, South Shields - Reviews & Ratings"The reception was un-manned at the time of my arrival and I had to seek out a member of staff (No apparent bell)- although due to current decorating most of reception was hidden. Also I did arrive quite a bit earlier than originally intimated due to the cancellation of a business meeting I had planned on route to the hotel. However staff quite courteous. After a long days travelling the facility of dining at the hotel was welcomed. Meal very good. As I wished to do some work the room was a little short of space but a chair would have been useful when using the top of the drawers for my lap top on. The edge of the bed is never too secure! However overall the room provided all that was required." (97428269)
It was peaceful and quiet and the room was light and airy and not too hot!

Sir William Fox Hotel, South Shields - Reviews & Ratings"The room was fine; the ensuite was lovely. Breakfast was ok if you only like toast or cereal - avoid the fry up! Bed was huge as two singles pushed together. A nice place overall - definite bargain!" (97970979)
Friendly staff; gorgeous ensuite room; pull your own pints in the bar!! Very comfortable lounge area; quiet location.
No heating controls; breakfast was quite poor. The kingsize bed was actually two single divans pushed together (but we did not fall out)!

Was close to the college
no double glazing , lots of noise, you can hear to the next room's sounds. Toilet was very congested to the bath tub. Ancient locking system of the room.

Sir William Fox Hotel, South Shields - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel is family owned and a warm welcome was extended to us. We were very well looked after and the family room was ideal for two teenagers. The bar known as the Honesty Bar due to the fact you write in a book what you had taken was a breath of fresh air. Breakfast was very filling and plenty of choice. Ideal hotel in a very nice area of Westoe in Sunderland. We will book again next year. Highly recommended. Excellent !" (97070768)
The hotel was very clean and the staff very friendly. The Family Room was huge and ample space for a family of four. Recently decorated and very clean.
