Nice lobby, had hot water and clean sheets!! thats all

room was dirty, old fashioned and in a poor state of repair... I'm not even mentioning the bathroom.

"poor, the owner/staff seem to think that they can ride off the back of the 'newly renovated' part of hotel and leave the old bit to rot...i would have rated the stay as fine if the room had been clean..sack the housekeeping staff and the owners clearly do not think much of guests if they think those rooms are even adequate!" (108737624)

the new part is well decorated

room was filthy, shower did not work, main light in room not working, could get a brand new self-check in hotel for same price. disgusting room, req non smoking got smoking room, noisy, room actually smelt!

"Over all a nice enough hotel for the price, but I've stayed in better 3* domestic (non tourist) hotels in Moscow" (108468035)

Over all cleanliness towels and bedding could not be faulted, and helpful staff

If I hadn't been totaly exhausted the quality of the bed would have been an issue and would have prevented me sleeping, the matress was very lumpy. The tiles in the shower had been painted which in its self is not a problem, that it was peeling at the bottom and needed re doing was unsightly. The sink plug leaver was conected or rather not conected with gaffer tape having to lean behind the sink to let the water out was an inconvienience. Being picky a couple of seams in the wall paper were lifting andthe trim was missing off the dresser, you had to be looking but the peeling paint in the shower meant I was. Appart from a few minor but glaring faults the genral standard of the room was very good

"It wasn't the best. We torelated it as it was only for 1 night." (108482781)

It was easy to book online, but beyond that I'm struggling to think of any.

The pictures make the hotel look modern, but we were in an old wing on the 3rd floor. The room was very small for a couple and was shabby in appearance e.g. hole in the bathroom door, doors hanging off the wardrobe and the shower only dribbled out water.

"We got a good online deal for the room and the overall impression was that it was value for money. Despite a few niggles, this was a vast improvement on the previous hotel we used in Birmingham. Some of the rooms and corridors could probably do with some industrial cleaning & a lick of paint & the bar needs a better seating arrangement. Also, my usual niggle with hotels like this, it always seems to be left to the guest to sort out missing or damaged items. Overall, a fair effort" (108254585)

Nice reception area well stocked with local papers and brochures. Useful freephone for local taxis. Well run bar

Seating area in bar is too small. Room was OK but window and shower needed cleaning, tv remote had one battery and was obviously broken, card to open door was reluctant to work.

Clean sheets Front end of hotel has been refurbished but get past reception and the rest is a disgrace.

Bumpy mattress Absolute disgraceful bath Rubbish around the back and front of building Rooms being refurbished were unlocked - building site in them - these rooms should be secured. Dirty carpets in rooms and in corridors.

"I think now you have completed the work to the downstairs it is time to do the same with the rooms. I stay in this hotel regularly when in Birmingham and if it was decorated it would make a massive improvement to the whole setting. This does not mean I would not stay again but I know the luxuries I am acustomed too." (108818643)

Friendly service and availability at short notice

The rooms need decorating and updating.

Lobby is nice. Location of hotel is very good--close to the city center.

The exterior of the building is very poor. There is a lot of room for flowers in the dirt spots, but none were planted. Room was dusty and damp. The bathroom was the worst!! with peeling paint and mold on the walls. YUK! Staff was not very enthusiastic nor informed.

"The Norfolk Hotel in Birmingam is being refurbished but a room with a window that will not close is not much good when it is directly overlooking the main road into Birmingham City Centre! Did not feel safe as a single femail lack of light along corridor leading the the room I eventually stayed in that night, if I did not know the hotel extremely well then I would have been nervous there.Car park not well lit and untidy. " (108960592)

Consideration shown to me by the receptionist who was on duty the night of my stay.

First bed had dreadful mattress so I was given another room. The TV and the kettle in this room were dead and the phone handset was covered in a sticky mess. I was shown to another room, a premier room, this was ok but there was a horrible musty smell in it and in the corridor approaching the room. The window handle was very lose and as this room was on the ground floor I was worried by this.

Very mattress one in the first room that I was put in. I value a decent mattress, not a hammock.

Convenient Cheap Parking Bed v comfortable Foyer and bar been refurbished since last visit and look very plush

Room needed "deep" cleaning - superficially it was clean but there was black mould in bathroom, skirtings dirty. Room decor certainly in need of refurb. No shaver point. Bathroom extractor fan and shower pump extremely noisy

"The overall impression was that this hotel had recently been taken over by people (possibly by a family) with little or no previous experience of the hotel/hospitality business. They are trying to run before they can walk and need to take a step back and consider if it is worth the bad impression that it creates to have such inexperienced staff dealing with customers, particularly during the period of refurbishment" (107507615)

£55 pound for bed, breakfast & evening meal for 2 people is good value for money, despite the bad service and general bad upkeep of the hotel. The staff were polite and friendly, although not very well trained. The food (when it arrived) was good I left a note at reception to be given to friends when they arrived, and this was done.

The bar was being refurbished and could not be used, but we were not told about this when booking. There was confusion upon arrival at reception and it took about 10 minutes to check in as the correct keys appeared to be missing. The service at dinner was abysmal. The waitress clearly had never done the job before. No cutlery had be laid and it came to us in dribs and drabs. We had to ask for napkins! My friend ordered coffee and had to ask 4 times for it (it took about an hour to arrive), the same problem was encountered with the jug of water I asked for. It took more than 2 hours for us to get served a 2 course meal. The door leading off the corridor into the restaurant was locked, although this is a fire door. All the fire doors around the back of the hotel were left open (I guess to take away the smell/dust of the refurbishing) but this made you feel vulnerable because anybody could gain access unchallenged. There was mold around the bath The wallpaper was coming away under the window in the room and looked shabby. The sheets had not been ironed and looked as if they had not been washed before the room was let to us. I had to ask at reception for a fork at breakfast because the waitress had disappeared. The hotel (including the dining room) was cold. Its a long trek from reception and the main entrance to the rooms, and this was a problem for the elderly/disabled people in my party.

The staff had upgraded us free of charge which was a nice gesture. We couldn't hear any traffic noise from our room. (room 1111) The hotel was under refurbishment and the reception was very nicely decorated.

The mattress on the bed was too soft. The shower was very basic. There was a lot of noise and shouting on the lawn outside the room first thing in the morning.(younger guests)

Linen was clean as were the window nets.

Floor coverings in the Hotel entrance, reception area and coridors were dirty as were the carpets and the floor covering in the bathroom. All the fittings in the bathroom, including the broken toilet roll holder were dirt. That the cleaners mop was almost black confirmed the casual approach taken to cleanliness.Litter surrounded all sides of the property.

cheap clean and fairly close to city centre - buffet breakfast pretty good.

was given room in old part of hotel, on arrival at room found grafitti carved on outside of door (not a good start). Fortunately key was damaged so couldn't get into room and we were moved to a room in new part of hotel, which was laid out like a typical travel lodge room, clean, quiet and comforable.
