Closeness to office. Decor of room
There wasn't realy anything one could describe as 'Bad'. However, I understand not all the rooms have yet been refurbished to the same standard as the one we were in.

Well situated hotel - fair equipment and service.
I think that our booking had disappeared - the staff was confused, when we arrived

City Hotel, London - Reviews & Ratings"I shan't be returning due to the poor quality of the room and will not be recommending the hotel to anyone business or social contacts" (107887409)
staff very friendly and helpful
the room was very poorly equiped. there was no tv. I would have complained about this although there was no phone in the room either (with bare lines on the wall), there was also no desk or table in room forcing me to complete business work sat on my bed. There was no large bathroom towel only a series of hand towels

City Hotel, London - Reviews & Ratings"Unfortunately hotel under going make over. No twin rooms on 6th floor which has been renovated, therefore had to be relocated to 1st floor, facing Brick Lane, very noisy." (107627767)
Staff were very helpful, nothing was a problem
No alternative to Buffet breakfast Food on Menu appealing, however, did not live up to expectations (only ate it due to the fact we were very hungry and tired)

City Hotel, London - Reviews & Ratings"This hotel should have raised alarm bells for my PA with the price for near central London at £75 for the room. I was not comfortable in the general area in my own at night and I would rather have purely functional premier lodge etc., than something like this which was tired and really quite down market. It would have been alright had I been on a no-frills cheap break with a partner, but not for business when you expect more." (107920995)
It was amazing value for money. The room was large - with 1 double and 2 singles.
The general area was unsuitable for lone female on business. Unsettling at night, with ladies of the night drumming up business on a nearby corner. It was also quite noisy with a street view room until around 2am. The overall decor was tired, with an array of mismatched furniture, giving it a bit of a bedsit feel. The room had a really stale smell. The shower was a hose type from the taps that I soaked the entire bathroom with trying to get to grips with it.

City Hotel, London - Reviews & Ratings"We had a pleasant experience staying in this hotel, we would definitely recommend this hotel for you to stay" (107769370)
Nice and clean rooms and bathrooms, basic facilities needed are available, excellent view of Swiss Tower at 5th floor where our room was and most importanly, underground trains and other transports are easily accessible on location
Noise can be heard coming from the adjacent rooms.. Night staff (receptionists) were'nt that accomodating, they don't attend to their customers right away

City Hotel, London - Reviews & Ratings"Very pleasant and relaxing (in spite of my pending exam)." (107222394)
Very kind and professional staff at reception. Clean room. Very quiet room! I could not hear any other guests nor any noise from the street. Very comfortable shower.
Minor "incident": another guest had had an evening meal (about 33 BP) and accidentally written my room-number on the receipt. It was a bit embarrassing to convince the reception on the morning of my departure that it hadn't been me who had taken this meal..(obviously the signature wasn't mine). As I was in a hurry in the morning to leave the hotel (I had to take a national exam,)this was a bit inconvenient. I wonder how a confusion about the payment for a meal could be avoided: maybe by writing down the diner's name in full block letters as well as the roomnumber?

City Hotel, London - Reviews & Ratings"Good." (107231463)
Staff were highly attentive. I specifically requested a double room with double bed for single use guaranteed. I was checked into a triple room with 3 single beds. As soon as I drew this to the attention of reception it was rectified and I changed rooms. I accidentally locked myself out of room and the porter arrived immediately with a key. Internet access at £5 for 24 hours is exceptional value by comparison with most hotels.
Neighbourhood not so great.

great location on edge of brick lane, spitalfields etc, pretty central for all aspects of london. rooms very clean, breakfast staff very friendly. good value for london.
could do with refurbishing, club below was more like " The Bill" ie police intervention and very young underage drinking outside, kind of exciting but a bit too close for comfort.

Ideal location on edge of City of London Ideal for Tower Etc. Actually on Brick Lane so some of the most marvelous Indian sub continent restaraunts on doorstep.
Only minor fault that comes to mind is the bed covers marks possibly of rather dubious origin on cover in general no real bad points

City Hotel, London - Reviews & Ratings"City hotel was one of the few hotels that had a room to accommodate 4 adults. It was also close to the Liverpool station for the Stansted express. Since we found other alternatives to airport transportation than the train (shuttle buses) I recommend others to find a hotel with nicer amenities. The room was 125 pounds a night ($250) and should have been a little nicer or at least not in need of repairs or repainting. " (108090626)
The 4 person room in City Hotel had huge water stains on the ceiling. Upon check-in, we asked for two room key cards and were told that they only issue 1 key card. With 4 adults this was inconvenient. The room TV was a 13" color tv and the tub in the bathroom had a huge crack in it where you could see inside it. The hot water was turned off for 1 day and the room fan was covered in dust like it hadn't been cleaned in years

The restaurant was not conducive to breakfast (unless maybe you're in your twenties). All black like a night club and with music videos on the big screen tv--that's not the atmosphere I want in the mornings.

City Hotel, London - Reviews & Ratings"Overall a little unorganised! Staff were polite and helpful though the second time round, considering the time of morning." (97360199)
We upgraded from a 3 person room (a double and a single bed) to a family room (3 beds) a couple of weeks before the stay. However when we got their the price was upgraded but not the room. Staff assured us by the time we got in that night that they would have us in a bigger room. When we arrived at 3:00am the only thing moved to another room (which was infact smaller) was 1 jacket. We then had to negotiate a bigger room at 3:30am after a long night. We finally got into a bigger room but spent the next morning looking for the jacket which was moved to a completely different room.
