Hotel Balladins Calais Gare, Calais - Reviews & Ratings"would stay again but only for a couple of nights." (108484128)
Easy to find from ferry port
We were charged a higher price than we were quoted.Smelt damp on arrival at reception, Needs a good decorating. Toilet seat broke shower doors leaked and lots of stains on all the carpets.

Hotel Balladins Calais Gare, Calais - Reviews & Ratings"Breakfast was OK but a little more attention to the supply of croissants would help. I think the Euro exchange rate makes it feel expensive for what is available. The smoke free building was nice, a positive change to the first time I visited. Once again, the room was quiet when the window was closed. This place suits my needs; I'll be back." (108288274)
This is my 4th or 5th visit to this hotel and would you believe it, the same room 3 times!. I think the sink has been changed (it had numerous cracks last time). The room was clean and warmer than last time and there is now a digital TV, although the volume was limited just a little too quiet for me. The room was serviced every day.
One or two strange marks in the carpet (had a solvent been spilled?) When closing double security doors, the noise echoes.

Hotel Balladins Calais Gare, Calais - Reviews & Ratings"Having driven all day was too tired to find alternative accommodation, but had expected a slightly higher level of cleanliness" (108399772)
Staff were friendly and helpful
Decor was dingy, with suspicious stains on the walls near the bed, the quilt on the bed was grubby looking and bobbled, though sheets were very clean

Close to the Eurotunnel and Car Ferry (10mins drive) Close walk to shops and restaurants
Our room was just above the area where the staff and guests (in the rain) went to smoke. Reception was open throughout the night. So even though it was a no smoking room it was filled with cig smoke and the room was warm and stuffy without the window open. The room was small and you had to shuffle around each other to get into the bathroom or back into the room. The hotel Company has taken over another hotel's building and the old name/signs are still up so it was hard to find the hotel.

Hotel Balladins Calais Gare, Calais - Reviews & Ratings"as a cheap and cheerful overnight on the way to the channel crossing it fulfilled its purpose" (107435547)
friendly helpful staff and clean linen
Rooms a little run down and in need of an update - cracked sink in room for example. Also the hotel is obviously in the process of rebranding so it was a little confusing to find it as the Baladins banner was not immediately obvious to us.

THERE AREN'T ANY!
This hotel was seriously filthy, noisy and hot (but we could not leave the window open as we were beside a main road) - I would not recommend it to anyone. Very, very disappointing.

Bad overall condition of room. Shower just about put out water and too close to toilet to access easily. Noisy outside in garden/smoking area until early hours of the morning with no staff to keep noise levels down.

Hotel Balladins Calais Gare, Calais - Reviews & Ratings"I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Pay the extra couple of euros and go somewhere else." (107345614)
there is nothing at all I would recommend about this hotel.
where to begin? Just don't even bother going there. Dirty, noisy, smelly, broken fittings in room, stained & burnt soft furnishings, worn out bed - worn out everything. Reminiscent of run-down student halls of residence.

You get what you pay for and pleasant service - location is excellent for eating out and town centre.
Felt the breakfast was a bit basic - but again you get what you pay for.

Hotel Balladins Calais Gare, Calais - Reviews & Ratings"Very nice - arrived tired in a 40 year old car that was hot, bothered and playing up - the room was comfortable and all staff very friendly. Perhaps not the most picturesque patio in France (over looking the car park - but there again our car is very pretty) but nevertheless sitting out on a warm night enjoying a bottle of wine was great!" (107763830)
Very good location, lots of parking, very friendly helpful staff, room clean and comfortable.
A bit hard to find as although there is a big sign on the hotel the name sign is much smaller and different.

Hotel Balladins Calais Gare, Calais - Reviews & Ratings"Second time I have stayed here in the last couple of years and I will not go again. The room we had last time was a bit better than this time round but it is in dire need of a refurb, staff are friendly and it is clean but very uncomfortable and noisy with defective facilities" (107799639)
Good location, free parking, friendly staff and relatively clean
Most uncomfortable bed have ever slept on and I stay away from home pto 4 nights per week, shower would not drain and flooded bathroom, room freezing cold even with heater on, very noisy with little or no insulation from corridor noise therefore very little sleep

Hotel Balladins Calais Gare, Calais - Reviews & Ratings"I wanted a room for the night and that is what I got. Quite, warm. Booking in was fine as I just handed in the on-line reservation confirmation form (after trying my poor French). I'll be back. Thanks!" (97153135)
Very easy to find from the ferry port. Good location, local to restaraunts and handy for Cite Europe, quiet when the window was closed (and my room faced the station!). I was able to view UK TV and therefore get an idea of traffic conditions to decide my route home. The mattress was a little hard, but that suited me.
The rooms are looking a little tatty. The sink in my room had more cracks than a Liverpudlian stand up comedian! however, everything (most important) was clean. I still can't work out why the toilet rolls are hidden under the sink, any first time visitor must get frustrated. Prices in the bar ensure I have what I need elsewhere. The showers are not for 'large' people.

This little hotel is just perfect for the quick transit stay or weekend break and is, probably, the safest in the whole of Calais, you will realise why if you stay there. The staff are always very freindly and the other guests (from the CAP Hotel adjoining the Bonsai/Balladine)couldn't be more polite and friendly. There is a proper Bar.
The only, very minor, gripe I have (and it is probably one that many hotels in France suffer from, so it is probably not entirely this hotel's fault !!) is that the TV could be better tuned and the programmes sorted out. The picture quality is extremely poor and the British Channels (being so close to UK) are only ITV1 and BBC2 at present. Still, who is going to stay in the room long enough when there are so many really good restaurants in Calais and Luc Gille at the Bar A Vin in the Place D'Armes to entertain you ? !!!
