    "I understand the new owners have been in place for a year and are gradually bringing this Victorian pile back into top condition. I hope they succeed in their project. Based on our stay, they deserve to." (108970491)

    General ambience of the hotel was good and the staff excellent.

    The Conservatory restaurant/bar menu was perhaps slightly limited (although this isn't the main restaurant) and although it afforded fine views it wouldn't feel particularly cosy in winter.

    Hotel was good value for money. Staff were generally good. Although on ordering a steak my husband asked for medium to rare and was told by waiter he would rather he did not order steak if his requirements were that specific.

    "Sad to find a once excellent establishment fallen so far. The building requires considerable expenditure to bring it up to an acceptable standard and I doubt that the new owners have the resources or know-how to achieve that. The best they can hope for is to recruit and train the staff needed to present visitors with a level of service that makes the buildings shortcomings irrelevant to the overall experience of their visit."     Hotel location is its main attraction. We stayed here in 1957 when the hotel was in its heyday and are extremely sad that it has fallen from its previous standard. The tourist attractions of Mull are the sole counter to the problems facing the new owners.

    The new owners/managers are enthusiastic and well-intentioned but appear to lack the crucial management skills needed to restore the hotel to a satisfactory standard of service. Staff appear not to be professionally trained in dealing with everyday tasks - room service is done at the whim of the staff member whose job it is and dining room staff do not pay sufficient attention to the requirements of diners, serving them out of turn whilst ignoring others. Wireless internet is only possible in the hotel reception lobby and is not a secure site. It cannot be used in individual rooms.
