  Very friendly staff. Made me feel at home.

  Only one. The mattress did not fit the bed very well, which resulted in losing the pillows down the back during the night

  Very compact site. Good facilities for young children to a very friendly bar for the adults. Good selection of food available.

  Hotel and bar staff excellent, room clean and adequate

  Breakfast staff were miserable and did not seem to know what to do - lots of tables left uncleared. Breakfast was not particularly good value at £95 B&B. Last weekend I stayed in a Premier Inn which was much better value for money

  "A very relaxing stay in a Courtyard room. Despite the hotel being on a busy road, traffic noise was not a problem. Some Sat-Nav users should be aware that they may be directed to an empty field!! If you are, just carry on up the road AWAY from Bishop Auckland and the hotel is located a few hundred yards up the road on the left hand side!!" (108328058)

  Very friendly bar staff.

  Perhaps could have done with another pair of hands in the restaurant as service was somewhat slow. As we were in no rush to go anywhere this didn't present a real problem to us but others may expect better service.

  I called to change room from double to twin and dicovered they had booked a suite at £20 extra. We agreed over the phone to keep the suite as it had two beds. When we arrived the room only had one bed. We changed to a twin and on check out they tried to charge us £20 too much. The beds were extremely hard and uncomfortable, and when other guests used the stairs the whole room shook. The shower head was broken and the shower extremely feeble. Breakfast service was slow and poor. Only one cup of coffee / tea offered. Limited visibility of staff. My daughter was taken ill in our room in the evening and I could get no answer from reception to ask about a doctor, despite several attempts. In the end I had to call 999 for an ambulance. The manager was aware that we went to A&E in the ambulance and no one followed up to see if we were OK or needed anything to support us.

  Second stay in this hotel hence the reason for booking as I had a pleasant stay first time round

  Very poor matress in bed which resulted in sleeping on the floor for the second night. This was pointed out on departure. It was not a complaint made but to highlight the need for a mattress change for future residents. For info room 15.

  check in was inefficient - no record on online booking poor quality pillows, duvet and towels poor quality curtains Freeview not set up for BBC channels waited a long time for bar meal to be prepared Poor site for TV in room toilet in other rooms was noisy

  "It needs a good clean. There was dirty hand prints everywhere. The toilet in the room was not up to scratch. But the staff were lovely." (107471320)

  The hotel did not have a copoy of my reservation when I arrived. But luckily there was only one other person staying in the hotel!!

  Staff attitude

  Evening bar meal poor. Room was adequate but basic but not a patch on the chains such as premier inn, ibis, holiday inn express, poor value for money. Had to go outside to get to room.

  My husband enjoyed the beer

  Inadequate shower - very poor flow - the room itself was clean but very basic - the breakfast was very poor - the fruit that was there on Saturday was very old and unappetising and there was none at all by Sunday no dried fruit either no yoghurts - the juice was watered down and the coffee like coloured water
