Kings Arms Hotel, Berwick Upon Tweed - Reviews & Ratings"For what it was, I felt the room was overpriced. For £130 +, I expect a pretty decent bed and sadly as a result I was awake most of the night, I can excuse a soft bed but not one that feels as though it has a hole in the middle. Also, I was in room 8 which was lovely and clean but facing the front onto a very noisy high street. For the price I paid I would expect to be in a quieter room or for it to have double glazing to minimize noise pollution. If none of these are possible, I would have liked to have been told the location of the room. The staff initially weren't that friendly at reception and I found myself being exceptionally nice in an attempt to bring the best out in them because I didn't want any bad vibes to spoil my special weekend with my partner, they were hard work. In addition there was miscommunication. We were told on the evening we could have a full engslish breakfast brought to our room the following morning and that we could order it in the morning. When we went to order in the morning we were told the girl on reception was new that we couldn't in fact do this, only a continental could be brought to our room. For £139 a night this seems a little lazy. It was again the same inpolite almost smug manner in which we were greeted with, that we were delivered this news. Edward on the other hand was excellent and a credit to the hotel. His pleasant manner redeemed the place. I wouldn't recommend the hotel as it is over-priced and too inflexible as when I pay the price I paid I expect to be able to have breakfast in bed and genuine courtesy as your hotel prices are on par with the Malmaison and the Hilton. I suspect complaicency is setting in as staff may not feel there is much competiton, but this could explain why your hotel was the only one I could get a room in over the Bank Holiday. This speaks volumes. Little things like the Newspaper being delivered. This was dropped with a thud on the floor so loud it woke my partner up and he thought something had happened, it was on the other side of the door. It just wasn't good enough. I really couldn't justify staying there again for that kind of money. It is a shame as I was hoping for a slightly higher standard from the staff. All in all we a had a lovely time as I didn't let the niggly things bother me but if you are really after a truthfull review then this is the way I saw it. I work in the media and have presented a number of travel programs and I would say you are asking first rate prices for a second rate service. The staff were friendly enough when we left but it just seemed too much like hard work to begin with to make me want to return, In these competative times, I would have thought they could have made a bit more of an effort." (97893037)
The accommodation was very clean. I really liked the cleanliness of the bathroom and the shower and bath facilities were excellent. The carpet looked new and I was pleased the standard of general hygene throughout the hotel
The worse thing about the accommodation was the bed. It was like lying in a bowl. Both my partner and myself had serious backache the next day and we are both fit and in our 30's. The bed dipped so badly in the middle it was actually pretty dificult to get out of it.

Good central position, although no hotel parking, parking was not a problem at weekend. Lovely Breakfast
Overpriced. No biscuits.

Kings Arms Hotel, Berwick Upon Tweed - Reviews & Ratings"Initially good but very expensive for the standard of facilities (Premier Inns offer similar or better rooms & breakfasts for almost half the price)and poor family facilities (ditto Premier Inns, etc). You need to get the loud music sorted out if you want to get repeat business." (107274865)
Room for first five nights of stay; breakfasts; helpful friendly staff.
Family room for final night of stay - poor cleanliness, old equipment/facilities, annoying layout of doors; loud music from pub next door on Thursday/Friday until very late

No Shower - just bath. Very noisy on Saturday evenings (not the Hotel's fault but due to location of nearby Pub & Bar)

Kings Arms Hotel, Berwick Upon Tweed - Reviews & Ratings"I was a little disappointing, the hotel is in a super location, and the staff were pretty good, but the rooms are so out dated. I have stayed there before for the convenience of it, but not too sure that i would like to in future. If they can't update the rooms, they should make sure everything in the rooms is exceeding expectations, like ensure there is a remote control for the TV, the milk is not out of date and the rooms are a good temperature." (97897969)
It was convenient, and the staff were pretty informative
The room was a bit rubbish. Its old fashioned, the temperature was too cold, there was no remote control for the TV and outside noise made it very hard to sleep (esp as it was a sat night and the bar next door is open)

Kings Arms Hotel, Berwick Upon Tweed - Reviews & Ratings"Not something I would EVER want to repeat. Shall never book with this hotel chain again." (107290899)
Central location; relatively good dinner menu (if somewhat pretentious); waiting staff polite and prompt.
Room described as 'Superior' was anything but. Although the room was LARGE, all of the floorboards creaked noisily both in the bedroom and bathroom; the bedcover was stained with what looked like BLOOD; and the under-sheet was holed.

the surrounding area was amazing, the gardens, the main street the surrounding facilities were very good. also the recetionist nad nioght proter were very helpful.
the fact that on the internet the rooms looked amazing but once we got there they looked nothing like there pictures. also the room had not been fulley cleaned out, leaving rubbish in the bins and also old tea in the tea pot. small matters yes i agree but for the price of £89 i did expect more

Kings Arms Hotel, Berwick Upon Tweed - Reviews & Ratings"We knew this was an older hotel in an older town. Therefore we got value for the money we paid. We would not bother to stay in this hotel or this town again. We would go to a newer hotel with a lift and parking, and be prepared to pay more for it." (108048620)
Pleasant garden for sitting and relaxing in. Hotel well situated in town and easy to find. Good food and good beer. Pleasant staff who tried to be helpful.
The music being blasted into the garden meant we could not sit and relax in it. Finding parking anywhere near the hotel was a pure lottery. The stairs are steep and winding, and there is no lift. There are also steep steps from the pavement to the front door. Huge bathroom with much unused space, but no shower of any sort. The bathroom window could not be opened without removing the blind, and there was no frosted glass. The waitress clumping noisily around the restaurant was unsettling - at the very least she should have worn quieter shoes. The waitress brought the pot of tea and poured tea into our cups immediately without asking or allowing the tea to brew. Consequently the tea was cold by the time we wanted to drink it. Please tell the seagulls to go to sleep at night - we could not sleep because they did not.

Kings Arms Hotel, Berwick Upon Tweed - Reviews & Ratings"Very good." (108023870)
Made very welcome, hotel very clean & conviently situated.
Wallpaper coming off the bathroom wall, lack of consistency in provisions of milk etc to room. Lack of car park & having to move car from outside at 9am each day. Resturant too expensive for what was provided. A cheaper & more substantial menu would have suited us better.

Reception staff friendly and helpful. Restaurant service very good on sat night 12th July 2008. Food good. Very refreshing to find a book on Buddhism in the room as well as the obligatory bible.
More of an inconvenience than a bad point point but hair-dryer was missing from room so had to go down to reception with wet hair to ask for one. 2nd night (sun 13th July 2008) restaurant seemed to be short staffed so service not as good as the previous night. No shower cap provided.

Staff who were there were polite, hard working and helpful even telling us the best places to eat in town when they could'nt feed us. Seems strange to limit the hotels earning power in this way." (97781411)
Hotel has been tastefully and expensively refurbished.
Lack of staff. Despite the expensive refurbishment some of the hotel still needs work. Things like window sash cords requiring renewal.

It is central for the town and easy to get to local attractions.
I disliked that the majority of the dining room waiting staff were foreign and quite inexperienced. It was not like this in my previous stays.

Kings Arms Hotel, Berwick Upon Tweed - Reviews & Ratings"This was a reasonable stay but not excellent. The food was good and the lounge/restaurant were of a good standard. The service was good and staff friendly. The building is very old and although some parts have been refurbished, the noise that the floors made was unbelievable. We found ourselves trying to tip toe around the room to avoid making such a racket. We also had somewhat of a sleepless night due to the poor quality and old (roll together) bed. Unfortunately we also found Berwick a little uninteresting." (97394862)
Pleasant staff, good food, nice lounge/restaurant
creaky, uneven floorboards everywhere, particularly bad in bedroom, old sagging mattress, no parking

Kings Arms Hotel, Berwick Upon Tweed - Reviews & Ratings"I booked the hotel because it was in the centre of the town and it looked like a historic building which would have lovely old rooms. It did not have a sitting room and the bar was very small modern and uncomfortable. The room we had which was at the front of the hotel was very small." (99074366)
It was quiet and in a good location
on arrival, the person at reception was unfriendly and made a couple of mistakes.he was young and male. The yong woman who was on later was friendly and efficient.cooked breakfast was good but continental was basic like a travel inn.The service was very good. However I think the prices were extremely high as the accomodation was basic, the room beig small and having to pay for parking was poor considering the price of accomodation. In Edinburgh for example parking is paid by the hotel.Tha bar was expensive and lacked atmostphere.Alos the restaurent. That is probably why they were empty. We ate at Popinjays and the Queens Head.We will probably stay there next time as the welcome, ambience and cost is much better.
