"We only stayed one night, the hotel is comfortable but needs some refurbishment, however the setting of the house and surrounding parklands make the visit well worth while." (108622328)

Stunning setting, friendly staff, good food.

Bed uncomfortable, bedding very 'tired' could do with new pillows, etc.

"A pleasant place to stay overnight or for a short break. " (107448312)

Clean and comfortable. Good restaurant. Spacious, picturesque grounds. Friendly and helpful staff. Within walking distance of Builth Wells and plenty of good walking territory around.

Our room was rather cold, but there were two electric heaters provided which solved the problem. The basin in the bathroom would have given a short person a serious challenge - it was very high.

"Beautiful surroundings and fantastic weather made a wonderful stay at your hotel." (107917157)

Fantastic room with four poster bed ! Beautiful old building with wonderful features and grounds. Delicious breakfast and friendly staff keen to please.

Over-cooked steak for my evening meal, it was tough, however, I did order a well done steak, my husband's meal was excellent.

    "PLeasant" (107332096)

The friendly staff, the surroundings, the quality of the food

The food is a little on the expensive side but the quality makes up for it. The TV in the room was very small and old and only showed 2 channels - Eurosport and a Welsh channel! The TV remote did not work. So take a book

"Overall, we thought it was expensive for what it was. I travel in the UK and Europe regularly and this was not good value for money." (97995600)

Friendly staff, excellant food and good location

Bedrooms average at best. Mattresses all very old and soft and our initial room (later changed) had a very ripe drain smell about it

"The charge for room via your site was a fair price taking into consideration shabbiness of hotel. We would never have paid the hotel full asking price." (99554806)

Hotel is set in really pretty grounds, with river running thro.

Decoration of hotel was shabby and it seemed understaffed. Same staff covering bar, restraunt and reception.

"The hotel is in the most beautiful surroundings and for that it could not be faulted. As said previously, in certain parts it looked a bit sad and shabby but nothing a bit of work would not put right. The young lady that booked us in and showed us our room was extremely pleasant and helpful. I would definitely stay here again. I would not hesitate to recommend it to others." (99824318)

The accommodation was, like the curate's egg - good in parts.

It was a little bit shabby

the accommodation was first class, we thought the bed was the best we have ever slept on.

Good location and facilities. Staff friendly and comfortable room.

Shower did not work - so annoying. Like many hotels - only enough coffee for one cup each - surely it cant cost that much to put in a plentiful suipply of coffee milk + sugar??

Overall very pleasant - adequate bedroom, delightful lounge and dining room

Room was not as special as expected in terms of decor and furniture and as one of the most expensive rooms lacked character in comparison to the rest of the building

Lovely big room with great views of the grounds and the river

Draughty windows but appreciate that it was a very wet and windy night. Would prefer duvets rather than blankets but that's not a complaint

"Restaurant really let the place down. Deep fried prawns were plastic, soggy batter and luke-warm. Steak was OK, but the vegetables (esp Cauli) were almost raw. Bread Roll was very stale. Trifle had that disgusting aerosol cream on top." (3304842262)

Actually very pleasant. Old World charm

Service a bit Fawlty Towers. On checking in, the receptionist had my room key in her hand and then started a conversation with someone else, - while still 'serving' me - so it took ages to get my key. She told mewhere all the lounges were, but not my room.

"We chose this hotel at random, but were glad we did. Despit the difficulty over the evening meal, the breakfast was first class and the staff were all lovely. We will definitely go back for another short stay (perhaps eating elsewhere!) and its rather unusual ambiance of faded charm is just right for anyone wanting a rather laid back break. Couples with children will hate it (that's just so no-one with children will be there when we are!)." (3304760035)

Lovely building and wonderful grounds, also none of the usual 'guest next door coughing all night' problems.

The food was rather disappointing - one dish was sent back, which we don't usually do. However, it was dealt with promptly and courteously and we were given a generous discount.

The welcome at this hotel is always warm. It is like being welcomed to a country house rather than checking into a hotel! Staff are helpful, inobtrusive and efficient.
