The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"Overall it did the job I asked of it. My main memory will be of super staff which is very much a plus point, my secondary memory will be of a hotel that needs some investment and TLC." (107678438)
Excellent friendly and welcoming staff in all areas (check-in, restaurant and bar). Particularly appreciated the expertise on the Evan Evans beers (all very well kept). An interesting and evidently popular menu.
My room was dark and dingy, broken lightbulbs and very low wattage on the rest! Mouldy pointing on bathroom tiles. I know that the hotel is very old and allowances have to be made, but some floor boards are SERIOUSLY loose - movement in the next room made my bed rock! Doesn't have its own carpark.

The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"The only downside of our stay and is not a fault of the George was the noise on the street outside our room.Having to get up early didn't help.Otherwise we would not hestitate to recommend the hotel." (108174387)
We did not get her name but the young lady who was on reception could not have been more helpful. Not only was she very effecient she was helpful with our request for an early breakfast due to us taking part in the British Heart Foundation Challenge. She even found the kindness to sponsor us which we we thought was a fantastic gesture. We can't speak any more highly of her, our only regret was not finding out her name.

The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"We did have a great weekend and the hotel was central to the locations we wanted to visit." (107893008)
The room itself was lovely, it was very clean and tidy. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
The tv and jacquzzi did not work and the room in the annex was on the main street near to bars which generated a lot of noise from the street. It was difficult to sleep due to constant shouting from people leaving the bars throughout the night.

Central to town, easy to find, parking permits good idea, nice staff and food, room clean, hot water always available.
Our room was a bit noisy at night overlooking the high street on a saturday with a lot of youngsters drinking and brawling.

The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"Would definitely want to stay in this hotel again if in the area and required overnight accomodation" (107584332)
Food was exceptionally good. Staff were very friendly and accomodating.
Some of the carpets and paintwork were well worn. However since the hotel dates back to the 1600s, this may add to its charm. Lack of parking facilities.

The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"Awful, would not recommend to my worst enemy." (108021475)
The downstairs to the hotel is acceptable and looks fairly nice.
The rooms smell, the fixtures and fittings look like something out of the late 70's, the general room is old and dirty. The room slants so badly that everything rolls off the bedside tables. There is little choice for breakfast and they do not serve baked beans. How this hotel is 3 star is beyond me and not worth

The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"All the basics of an overnight stay was satisfied but my room seemed a tard tired and if the other rooms were the same I would not let my family stay there." (107234678)
A good sized room with all the amenities although the shower could have been at least50% more powerful.
Too many handles missing from cupboards and drawers. Toilet paper holder broken so toilet paper on cistern. Every time someone entered the hotel via the residents entrance their was a noticeable thud and my head on at least two occasions was shunted forwards.

The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"Spoilt entirely by incident above. We will not return as a result." (108086712)
Location, cleanliness, catering
poor welcome by male receptionist. Hardly acknowledged - asked names and simply handed keys. Leaving hotel was acrimonious - young female receptionist kindly agreed to retain our luggage at reception for collection at midnight following brecon jazz festival. Waited for 15 minutes to be attended to and as our taxi was waiting we simply entered the reception area to retrieve our personal items. Young lady returned and a proceeded to give us torrant of abuse as we had entered a private area. Totally unnecessary as door was open and having waited 15 minutes we were in danger of losing taxi for journey of 90 minutes. We had to act and her reaction was entirely inappropriate.

Room was very large
Couldn't close bathroom door, needs fixing and as it was very hot we had the windows open and its right by a pub or bar so very noisy, until 1am and road was noisy in the morning.

The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"Overall it was excellent. We were in Wales for our wedding anniversary and thoroughly enjoyed it. The overall experience in this hotel was, apart from the points listed above, excellent. I loved the place and the location was fantastic, in the centre of this lovely town (Brecon), with some very lively nightlife in town and a fantastic scenery around it (Brecon Beacons). The hotel is definitely recommendable." (97199154)

The Hotel Room was clean and tidy Food was fresh and well presented the hotel was situated in an ideal spot for me as there was easy accsess to all the shops only a few minutes from hotel
The Bathroom carpet could do with replacing and the cracks round the ceiling could be repaired these are only cosmetic but would make a big difference

Good food, decent sized room
Extremely hard bed, lack of parking, lack of noise-proof windows (emergency road works from 11.55 pm to 2.55 am), lock in door was too stick for me to lock and unlock myself - porter had to help each time I entered or left the room.

The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"What a shame our stay was spoiled and not by anything in the hotel." (97239737)
The food and the staff were excellent and its a shame I won't be back.
For £80 a night I would have expected the room to be spotless, it was not. I could run my hand across surfaces and collect copious amounts of dust and well the shower screen track had a whole ecosystem thriving in it. Now we come to the main reason for not comimg back and let's face it we will be staying in the area 4 times per year - the noise from the drunken yobs in the street outside which went on until 03:30. My daughter is the top thrower in 3 events U17 in the UK and she had a competition the next day and it didn't go well and I think you can understand why, in addition, she admitted she picked up some new swear words she said she didnt know before our stay.

The historical context of the building, good breakfast.

We enjoyed our evening meal in the dining room. The service was good and the atmosphere great. The meal itself was delicious
Our room, the last one available, was small and gloomy and the furniture it in was cheap and crummy. It didn't feel particularly clean. There was something that looked like dried baked beans on the coverlet. The washing fascilities were outdated and restrictive. The heating was on all night despite all attempts to turn it off and reassurances from the desk that it would go off at 11 o'clock. Consequently we had a very uncomfortable night. We had booked and pre-paid for two nights but decided to leave after one and were refunded for one night, but not for both. It was a very disappointing experience, as it had been recommended to us by a friend who had obviously had a better room for the same price.

The George Hotel, Brecon - Reviews & Ratings"The quality of the room ruined the stay - will not be back. Impossible to control heating - too hot. The heat together with noise made it difficult to get a good nights sleep. The loo was noisy and difficult to flush and the shower barely adequate. The search continues for a good hotel in Brecon." Restaurant worth a visit
