Lord Leycester Hotel, Wheyrigg - Reviews & Ratings"For a reasonably priced hotel near the centre of town I would recommend it." (108868756)
Room was clean and warm. Food in the restaurant was fairly good but choice was a bit limited, but other restaurants close by. General service was good.
Breakfast service was slow and buffet was not always ready when breakfast started.

Had to wait ages to be served breakfast, the floors creaked in the bedroom badly and the people upstairs could be heard walking across their creaking floor. The heating never worked, and we had to run the water for the shower 25 mins before it became warm.

Lord Leycester Hotel, Wheyrigg - Reviews & Ratings"Wouldn't consider booking this hotel again." (108283849)
Location
Room was cold, heating did not work. Needs total refurb. Hot water took over 5 minutes to come through on sink and shower. Breakfast, had run out of tea and coffee, no condiments on table, could not cater for numbers. TV was poor, same programme on over 50 channels! Not enough choice!

Lord Leycester Hotel, Wheyrigg - Reviews & Ratings"after looking forward to our break for a number of weeks whilst we had a great time the hotel was the only disappointing aspect of our stay and was below our expectations. we did voice our concerns regarding the bed and tv in the room to your hotel staff and they said that it must have been an error with the online booking company as they did not have rooms with large tvs and beds, which would cause concern when next booking onlne." (107858999)
well positioned hotel for our break
when we booked online i specifically booked a superior double room in order to have the extra large double bed and extra large tv. we however had a small 14 inch portable and two singel beds pushed together, which was uncomfortable for my partner who is 6 ft 4. also the shower was not adjustable and so this caused him problems too. on the last morning the breakfast room was so busy that it was a shambles and staff could not cope. we had to keep asking them for basics like cutlery and to wipe our table etc.

Ground floor recently nicely refurbished - aimed apparently at corporate conference use. Good parking. Hotel well positioned in town. Clean beds.
Bedroom and bathroom very seedy - neither really clean and dusted. Staff generally flat-faced and unwelcoming - poor morale amongst them very evident.

No good points
The staff did not have any authority/control over roudy/drunk guests who were singing and shouting until 4am. They did not ask them to leave or stop serving them alochol. They would rather upset all of the other guests staying who were trying to sleep.

Room was clean and tidy, hotel was clean and tidy, staff friendly and helpful.
Poor water pressure in bathroom. Teapot lid broken. Breakfast service wasn't the best but the food was fine; just needed some attention to detail.

Staftt were efficient and friendly.
When booking I requested a quiet room. We were given a room on the main road. The staff quickly and efficiently allocated us another room. However, when evening came we discovered the heating in the room was off and we had no way of turning it on. Also, in the morning there was no hot water. We did run the taps for 10 minutes as advised but still no hot water.

staff extremely friendly breakfast excellent
none really. carpet in room a little tired could do with cleaning and refitting or replacing and door didnt fit properly in the door jar appeared a little warped but this is probably due to the age of the building.

Indeed I would have left after the first night but my husband is more tolerant and did not wish to face the upheaval for just one more night. Very disappointed." (107132048)
Shabby dirty decor in room; tho next door was modernised we were still charged full rate for substandard accomodation. Staff surly, except for one of the receptionists and the overworked chamber guy who was stil trying to get to clean our room at 3.30pm!

Staff were very helpful when we decided that we needed to move.
Agreed for a double room, but were given a single room when we arrived - despite checking over 5 times on the phone before arriving. Overcharged on agreed rate when checked in. Room too small for cot and so hot we had to move to allow baby to sleep. Facilities were tired and needed updating.

"Notwithstanding the comments above the experience was good but at a busier time it could have been unacceptable, there being a fine line between a speedy response and a long wait." (108187608)
The staff were attentive, friendly and courteous and dealt with our requests speedily. They did all that was asked but I considered they lacked support, ie, meaning there was not enough supervision from above.
One of our rooms had not been made up when we arrived in the evening, the staff dealt with it immediately, an alternative room was found immediately; another room was very cold, window open, no heating, again an alternative was found immediately. Particularly on the first morning there seemed to be insufficient staff dealing with breakfast, which we all considered to be overpriced. The staff were attentive but stretched. Parts of the hotel have a very run-down look,by contrast to the staff who were bright, smiling and attentive. the staff are clearly let down by their overmanagement from afar. With lesser staff I would have been very disappointed for my celebrative stay with my family. One obvious way to make a profit is to ensure that none of your carpets are threadbare, there is good lighting and no smells in all corridors, that in a maze of a building there are clear easy-to-read direction signs from reception to all bedrooms. If you boast a super restaurant on a poster in the lift, it should be more recent than 2001!( it being 2009 now) The restaurant did not appear to be open, let alone welcoming.
