Food was fantastic it is also a quality Italian restaurant staff extremely friendly and helpful restaurant service was faultless and there was excellent view of the main line with plenty of memorabilia

very different experience. Excellent evening meal in restaurant. Piano entertainment very enjoyable. Pleasant and helpful staff.Loved the whole set up.Plenty of car parking. Liked seeing trains go past.
Buffet breakfast very limited e.g.no marmalade or breakfast rolls.Choice of cereals limited, particularly if you went in later. Towels very clean and soft but threadbare. A little bit cold in the dining room + bar the first evening

staff were incredibly friendly, rooms were immaculately clean, food was very good.
not ideal if you are a light sleeper due to east coast main line right beside rooms - not an issue for me.

Very quirky and unusual. Very helpfule staff. It was the only hotel near york that woudl let me book one night rather than 2 over a weekend.
Loo seat in 4 poster bed room had fallen off and one of the drawer fronts was missing.

excellent italian menu,food first class,friendly staff.always on hand to help.
kettle did not work,bed uncomfortable due to old matress,central heating control didnt work so room was too hot.no curtain on one window,shower wouldnt work properly in the evening.All of these points should be noted...Most important is a new mattress as we didnt get much sleep,the bed must have been in this state for months as I have read reviews about the Sidings.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the restaurant was very nice.
The rooms are very small,and there was no wardrobe in the room. At the buffet breakfast there was no butter for the toast and nobody was on the premises to ask for it.

The welcome by staff was excellent really friendly.Restaurant was good and selection coverered all tastes. Rooms were a fair size considering that they are in a railway carriage.Everywhere was very clean.
A new coat of paint on the outside of the carriages would improve first impressions.This the manager has said he intends to do.

Hotel good for people who like trains and railways. Welcome warm and staff very helpful. Bedroom special and bed good with spotless clean white linen.
Room not well checked before our arrival, light bulb not working, nor TV remote, shower curtain stained.

This place is a little treasure so unusual, the public areas are very good the bedrooms are small ibut its a train carriage what do you expect, they need a bit of TLC and this property would be faultless..
Rooms needed a mirror by a plug and a bit of cosmetic renovation, but we were extremely comfortable.

Our room was cosy and warm (they had provided an extra heater), with on-suite and very clean. There was also tea/coffee making facilities." (107467561)
Considering the very cold spell around 3rd/4th Feb we received a very warm welcome and a free cup of coffee, before going into York for the afternoon. Returned in the evening for their 'Italian Buffet night', £6.95 and eat as much as you like! The food was excellent and plenty of choice.
The main point here would be that there's no hot breakfast until 10am although they do provide cereal and toast to help yourself. Also, the drinks are quite expensive, £4.50 glass of wine and £1.95 for a half larger!

The unusual sleeping quarters were good. The staff wer welcoming and very helpful, and polite. The restaurant was good,and reasonably priced and service was good.
The time of year (January) caused alot of condensation in the room that will cause mould, although none seen. The shower curtain could have been more appropriate to try to keep water in the tray. The Buffet breakfast was limited to a choice of two cereal and two slices of toast. No choice of bread or juice. and a cooked breakfast had to be paid for as an expensive extra. Therefore value for bed and breakfast was not good. The main issue that could be a problem should a fire or other problem requiring asststance was not available as there were no staff in the building overnight, only another couple of guests.

the onlne booking system was very easy and straight forward. The staff were excellent and couldnt do enough for us. They were polite, freindly and very helpfull.
The room we stayed in could have been bigger. Admittingly it is a train carriage but there were other available rooms, think we got the smallest room out of all of them.

The staff were very helpful and friendly. Certainly keen to be as accomodating as possible. The manger was keen to tell us about future improvements
The rooms whilst novel are in need of refurbishment. The manager did explain that this was happening in the new year and I would look forward to going back once this has been done (probably not before)

Brilliant staff, very welcoming
Rooms were comfortable but could do with updating. Worst aspect, a loose electrical socket in one room that a child could easily have put a finger into, we had to tape it up with sellotape.

The description of the hotel was Station Lane, York; this omitted to say that the hotel was in Shipton, some miles north of york. When we arrived we were confused to see that the name of the hotel had changed from The Sidings to Il Treno. I expected the stay in a railway carriage to be constricting and crampt, but it was OK. The main complaint my mother had was that the radiator did not work. A portable one was brought in, but this further reduced the space available in the room. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and generous in the amounts given. All in all, I would go back again." (97965875)

Staff and management were helpfull and very friendly, nothing was to much trouble. The unique accomodation which was a suprise as you cant actually see from the pictures where you will be sleeping!
It was futher out of york than we were lead to believe, as we didnt expect to use our car, but had to.
