De Vere Venues Hartsfield Manor, Betchworth - Reviews & Ratings"There is nothing general about this hotel. In my opinion a top hotel with superb facilities for an excellent price. The driveway, terrace and gardens are well maintained and compliment the hotel extremely well. The rooms were beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean. The staff couldn't be more helpful and the location so tranquil. This hotel had a 'special' feel about it and it was an absolute joy to spend a night there. Our only disappointment was that it was just for the 1 night. We would have no hesitation at returning to this hotel." (108173360)
Beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Pleasant, helpful and professional staff. Rooms very tastfully decorated with tea & coffee making facilities, ironing board, iron and hair dryer. Comfortable beds with crisp, clean bedding and good quality duvets and pillows.
No bad points, No criticisms. Just a couple of suggestions: Yoghurt and a selection of fruit could be provided at breakfast? Full length mirrors to be provided in all rooms (1 of the rooms we had didn't, but we only noticed as there were mirrors in the other room).

The hotel had been refurbished to an excellent standard. The public areas were spacious and very comfortable. The hotel's grounds were very well kept with excellent views of the surrounding countryside.
The food in the restaurant (evening meal) was of average quality. The need to book the evening meal in advance restrictive.

Advertising shows a period building, but gives no indication that this is not where some/most people will be staying. In all probability I would still have booked had I known about the annex; but only to find out at arrival just made me angry and spoiled the experience." (107609517)
Excellent breakfast. Well situated. Staff polite and generally helpful.
No indication at booking time that stay would be in sterile 'office block' type accommodation and not in the main period house. In bad weather this is not acceptable - no covered walkway. Basic TV channels. NO radio. Cleanliness of room/bathroom is an issue as is the general maintenance. (Lock hanging off door, extractor fan in bathroom manufacturing dirt/grease stalactites).

The room was modern and very clean. The location of the hotel was superb - just what we were looking for.
The bed was tiny, the room and whole hotel was far too hot. There was a party/function going on somewhere and the noise kept me awake for most of the night. We were not warned of this function at all at the time of booking or at check -in. We didn't stay in the main hotel either.

Fantastic room, very clean, pleasant and friendly staff (very attentive, especially when I ordered food/drink late at night in the restaurant/bar during my stay). Hotel branded magazine/national map of De Vere hotels). Free wi-fi/net access, tea making facilities, good quality LCD TV. Comfortable bed/bedroom. Hotel set in enthralling grounds.
A local guide of where to eat/what to do/useful information e.g. taxi numbers etc.would have been useful had I been staying longer, although the reception staff were helpful.

Choice of evening meal very poor and not good value for money. No coffee/tea lounge available on day 2 due to a wedding being set up.

Not much Hotel information in the room, Tv Channels etc, breakfast time. On the second floor so the stairs a nightmare, as no lift.

We thoroughly recommend the Lodge as it is quiet and decorated well. The grounds are also lovely as is the main building. Although we only stayed one night, we would quite happily spend a week here, particularly at the price we paid (£50 double room)." (97485358)

De Vere Venues Hartsfield Manor, Betchworth - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel looked to be, and was in a lovely position, with several good pubs nearby. Both the evening and bar menus were limited in choice at the time we stayed (end March). Waiting staff were excellent and breakfast good quality, but not the best selection we have had. Desk staff seemed to be mainly foreign and therefore did not explain the booking system very clearly leading to slight confusion regarding credit card payment on arrival. We were allocated a room in the new Headley Wing which was a long corridor with rooms on either side. Room too small for large desk and bed too small and squashed in a corner. Did not sleep properly on either of 3 nights because of small bed. When I asked I was told that the rooms (upstairs) in the old part of the building were spacious and much nicer, with views, especially on the first floor. Tip: ask for a room on the first floor but view it first!" (97112464)
The imposing manor house and beautiful grounds
Our room was in a new block added on to the main house. It was very small with a small double bed pushed into one corner of the room. You could not walk round the bed and one person had to climb over the other to get out!

I was brought a fan heater and had to make do with this which was noisy and hard to sleep through. the food was very good but there wasnt very much of it, the portions were child sized and therefore expensive for what it was, an extra side dish of vegetables would have made the meal much better value for money" (97677880)

Dinner menu not extensive enough so ate out. Breakfast well cooked and plenty of choice. Grounds well kept and enjoyed the walk after breakfast. No rush to vacate the room the following day." Otherwise, we had a walk on the grounds which was very pleasant, even for this time of year (February); the cooked buffet breakfast was of good quality; the staff were polite and courteous and our room was sufficiently heated." The view was magnificent! Fully cooked breakfast available in the morning until 10.30am!!!
The flashy flat screen TV was not in the correct place. Off centre from where the bed sat. The Bathroom was rather stark and uninviting. Lovely bath but no bubbles! The cupboard looked tatty.

This is a hotel that could be outstanding if the customer's needs were at the forefront. Although the staff were helpful and most courteous they were not complimented by the general poor condition of the interior furnishings and decor. Neglected decoration of room. Extremely poor menu selection in restaurant. Disproportionate room rate to quality expected. Although the advertising describes the hotel as a no-smoking zone, the room had obviously been used by smokers. Not pleasant if you are not a smoker.

Noise from heating system (pipes)in my room disturbed me when I needed quiet time to concentrate on work in the evenings. Restaurant menu was good, but expensive (I ate in the bar the rest of the week).
