Extremely welcoming hosts for whom nothing was too much trouble. We discovered this gem last year and will continue to visit. Restaurant superb (ambience & food). Rooms excellent. Small problem with heating which was rapidly sorted out. Altogether excellent.

I am reluctant to recommend this gem of a place for fear of it being booked up the next time we wish to stay. From checking in to leaving was a delight. Superb evening meal and great breakfast

Lisa and her staff were very friendly and welcoming and 'human'. The room was adequate for our needs and comfortable. The food and bar excellant.
We did feel a little forgotten on the Friday night being served dinner and the time between ordering andeating was quite long, but they redeemed theirselves. We did think that the Pews although a great method of seating were a little shallow and uncomfortable at times. They need to be a bit wider!

This bed and breakfast was cosy and the restaurant was very nicely decorated.
When we first got there, we thought, "Wow what a find." However, the room we booked was too small. (It was a twin-bed room) Too small to have any space to walk around even a bit. I personally felt like I was trapped in the room. Other reviewers seemed to love this for nice combination of good and old. We too but there were just too many steps and doors from the room to the front door and to the dinning area. We find a bit too much hassle with a small child. Another thing was that the room was located right above the entertain room where people could play dart, drink beer and play music loudly. Now we get away from London to enjoy peace and quiet in the cotswold area but we actually suffered from loud music and shouting 6 pm till 12 pm. I did go down to speak a staff person about it but only thing she could tell me was that this place also was also a pub. Then they shouldn't have had a room right above the loud entertain room. The experience was not pleasant at all. Last point, the red lion is one of the serveral its asscociastion. We found the the same name B&B nearby although they seemed to have different owners and what not.

Loads of free car parking space; lovely garden (if the weather had been better!) Beware, there are TWO Red Lions, one at Little Compton and this one at Long Compton. Needless to say, we got the wrong one first! The owners love their (large) dogs which are very visible in the bar. This was no problem to us, as we also like dogs but some people might not like it. Delicious breakfast, with a choice-form that you fill out the night before. There is a games room with a dart board and pool table, but no darts, so bring your own. There are several little railway stations not far away (e.g. Kingham) with pay-and-display parking, so we caught a train to Oxford which was £5 day return and had a lovely day. The Red Lion is a bit in the middle of nowhere but good for walks if the weather is right. Restaurant is very good, if a little expensive with wine etc. All in all, a fabulous inn with great service and accommodation." (97421494)

Warm and welcoming staff team. Beautiful premises with a high standard of cleanliness and an interesting menu with a high standard of presentation. All meals were to the same standard.Good touches through out the hotel, such as the flowers in the room, the furnishings and the pictures that pulled it all together.
A problematic radiator in room one that would suddenly start making very loud noises, it obviously didn't trouble us enough to remember to say while were there though!

Lovely location, full of character and good food. Lovely friendly dog and good that pets are permitted.
Noisy grinder on toilet when flushing, but it is probably the only solution in an old building.

I had dinner and breakfast at the hotel and both were very good. I was very happy with the service. I paid 75 pounds for the night which I thought was fair value, but the owners said that the rate was only 55 pounds if booked early - this would have been great value. I will stay here again." It has plenty of original features, such as the fireplace and beamed low ceilings, plus resident dog, and is a lovely setting to spend a quiet afternoon. We chose to eat from the specials board and found the food absolutely delicious, very fresh and tasty. We'd be happy to recommend the Red Lion as an excellent base for a weekend in the countryside." The Red Lion has a real warm atmosphere, which is certainly helped by it's charming staff. The food was excellent, the room very clean and comfortable and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Check-in was a little difficult as we arrived before the pub opened at 6pm, but following a quick phone call the staff were more than happy to help out. We were lucky that there was a table available for dinner, but I would recommend reserving a table at the same time as booking the room as there are limited numbers of spaces. The food was really great with a good variety of dishes on the menu with additional items on the Specials board. The breakfast was also very good with locally sourced fresh ingredients. Overall, a very satisfying stay and I look forward to finding another excuse for us to return!" (97240397)

Lisa and her staff have a relaxed attentive manner and the food and ale were excellent, a real bonus at the end of a busy day at a trade show. Very friendly staff & comfortable accomodation. We had an excellent dinner - menu choice a little restricted but augmented by several specials on the board.
No glasses/beakers in the bathroom. No grips/handles to the bath. Some road noise.The friendly dog in the bar area should not be allowed to sit on the seats

The Red Lion **** Inn, Long Compton - Reviews & Ratings"When booking, we were a little concerned that this might be a pub with accommodation above and as we were travelling with our young granddaughter we wanted the rooms to be secure. In effect, it was a pub and restaurant (with excellent food) but everything had been done to ensure the security and comfort of the guests. The management were extremely friendly and efficient, as were the staff. Finally, as said many times before, the breakfast alone was worth the visit." (97813593)
The bar and restaurant were totally open to the public and obviously extremely popular but the accommodation was totally secure; very important with children occupying their own room. The rooms were small but clean, very cosy and comfortable.
A few too many stairs for the elderly or disabled. One of our party was recovering from a major operation so one trip up and down per day was enough.

The room was very clean & had everything you need. The food was great & so were the people.
On the booking site it said we could check in from 2pm but in fact it was 5.30pm.
