"Booking online is usually risky, but Swan's Nest lived up to description of river views of Avon and being within walking distance of RSC Theatre and other Shakespeare sights. The outside view of Hotel , a touch of the Motel - belies its atmospheric interior which is rich in old world charm, with lovely bedrooms in period detail. Plenty of space and chairs and tables to gather friends in a panelled lobby and staff attentive to one's needs. You can relax there and make the place your own for your stay." (97238073)

the old-world charm of The Swan's Nest is rare enoughm so should be savoured when found. We loved the room and its panelling, the bathroom was a pleasure, not least because of a bath big enough to take a reclining gentleman who likes to soak. The buffet in the lobby of a ready supply of soup, tea, coffee is appreciated by travellers who may not wish a full snack or meal and yet are 'peckish'. The grounds with proximity to river Avon are sheltered from traffic and yet within walking distance of everywere one might wish to stroll.

"its only virtue is that it is close to the town centre, other than that it has little to recommend it. In the past three years having travelled extensively, I can only think of two hotels less welcoming, one in the west of China (Kashgar), the other in Trinidad de Cuba, Cuba." (97365578)

    Central to Stratford upon Avon

The decor was dated and very tired, the room appeared to be in a sixties time warp, The surface of the bath was pealing. Furniture had handles missing, there was no welcome pack, remote control for TV.

"The hotel provided all our requirements except for the lack of dining facilities. They were prepared to arrange reservations elsewhere but this information was not brought to our attention prior to booking. Some years ago I had frequently dined at the Swans ' Nest and had always enjoyed good meals and was disappointed that this facility was no longer there." (99186269)

Close to the town centre and yet with a rural atmosphere

No rack for luggage when packing or unpacking. No radio in the room

"apart from the comment above we had a very enjoyable stay." (99453342)

we have stayed at the swans nest before,we like it for its location

the only problem we had was the room we were given was room 2 which was next to a doorway so we had people coming in all hours of the night and the door just kept banging shut witch meant we did not get much sleep.

Everything we could have asked for, and had a very good night's sleep. Excellent breakfast.

Our friend's room, opposite ours, was poorly sited overlooking the car park and by the exit door, but they seemed pleased overall with the value-for-money stay. We hope to come again!

"The location of the hotel was excellent, only 2 minutes walk into Stratford upon Avon, and within sight of the river. Room needed a complete make over to keep up with other hotels, as none of the furnishings matched, and the carpet looked tired. Air conditioning should be installed. The shower over the bath should be removable, to enable you to wash your hair without getting in the bath to do so. I think that the price was over the top, for the facilities and comfort offered. I would recommend this hotel to others, only because of the location." (99324449)

Staff were excellent and very attentive. Breakfast was more than adequate and staff were very nice and food arrived within minutes.

We stayed in room 36, which had the following problems: toilet roll holder hanging off wall; no hook on bathroom door; toilet seat was placed too near the handle, therefore would not stay up; no clock or radio; very basic television; no DVD/CD; standard lamp kept failing over, no electric extractor fan in batroom and there was no stand for suit case.

"We've stayed at this hotel between Christmas and New Year for the last 3 years. It is in an ideal location (by the river and 300metres from Town Centre/Theatre). The rooms are functional and have been refurbished in the not too distant past They are good value at the discount rate paid - I wouldn't say this if I'd paid the rack rate." (99808131)

Clean hotel, good food and friendly staff. Excellent location just over the bridge from the festival theatre.

The televison in the room was pathetic and the remote didn't work. There was little channel choice. Snacks are not served in the bar! Why not?

the room smelt damp as if it had been flood damaged perhaps. the shower fitting was very old and difficult to turn and the control appeared as if it was quite grimey.

We hope to stay there again in January for our next theatre visit." (99282156)

"I have seen negative reveiws of this hotel, and all I can say is I don't know why, I can't really think of a single negative point. It was clean, well located and comfortable and also vastly cheaper than anything else in Stratford. Compare to the Thistle where I have also stayed for much greater cost it was much much nicer. Yes the rear part As opposed to the front is a modern block, but that is the case with 90% of old hotels that have been extended - it didn't make it unpleasant to stay in. The gardens surrounding were particularly well looked after." (99438847)

The hotel had an excellent location, the room was clean, well appointed and nicely decorated.

The shower was very hot, but this is a minor very minor complaint.

"We attended a concert at the nearby 'Cox's Yard' so the location of the hotel was fantastic. The staff were friendly and relaxed. We were unlucky in that we didn't get a river view from our room. The food was brilliant and the choice at breakfast was impressive. I did think that when I booked our room that it was a bit pricey but accepted that this would be the case in the middle of Stratford - that said, the room and the food were tremendous and our stay was certainly worth every penny. Concert was a Good Night Though." (3305232030)
