"Overall good, bathroom facilities need looking at. Would possibly recommend hotel , can't really say i would, or would not......." (97702722)

Room was good, the bed very comfortable

The En-Suite facilities were a bit tired. The water was not very hot. The taps did not convert from bath supply to Shower supply properly which left an inadequate pressure to the shower supply. More water was being supplied/wasted to the bath than was going to the showerhead. The Heated towel rail had no heat to it. In fact, the electrical connection had been Bodged Up with some black insulation tape and looked borderline on being in a dangerous state. The windows had a towel rail but ne curtains which left a sense of a lack of privacy when using the bathroom during darkness. I know this is minor but only one out of the two ceiling lights worked which left the shower in the dark once the curtains were closed. I did not voice any complaints during my visit and realise that maybe i should have voiced some concerns at the time. If i had been stopping for more than 1 night then i may have been more inclined to have said something. The evening meal was good. The breakfast was quite good, i would have graded it as very good if everything had not been overcooked. We were both fortunate to own our own sets of teeth because if we had false ones then i think we may have struggled to have got through it !

Very good food, extremely funny waiter. Nice superior double room with lots of space and very clean.

The website advertised drop-off service for walkers and made it sound as if we could get information about walking in the Peak District, but since the renovations the hotel seems to be focusing more on events such as weddings and away days, and we were directed to the Hathersage tourist office for information on walking - but there is no tourist office in Hathersage! Also when the room was cleaned the tea and toilet paper were not replenished, nor were we given fresh glasses in the bathroom

"Too cold to stay at within the winter months." (107872723)

The staff were very profesional, friendly and happy to help with any queries/requests The food was of a very high standard, the evening meal served was excellent.

The hotel in places was quiet cold, especcially in the bedroom. (the bathroom radiator did not work at all) On nights where the weather drops below freezing this is not acceptable considering the cost of the stay, It was obvious to see that cut backs were being applied in the areas of gas & electric, but this should not be at the expense of paying guests,as it is not 'chep' to stay there in the first place.

"Food was excellent. Small friendly hotel. Decor and presentation in common areas better than in the rooms. Excellent value for money booked as a package. Would be more than happy to stay here for a few nights as abase to further explore the Derbyshire countryside. Staff were approachable and helpful." (99948784)

The overall feel. The view. The seperate rooms.

Clock was wrong and couldn't be changed. Windows condensensed over which obstructed the excellent view.

"We would have liked to have known how they are ruined the interior of the hotel, its like a spaceship inside and a beautiful old building outside! The bar was like any other bar in any city and felt very average. It was impossible to get any service at reception, there was never any one at the reception desk duing our entire stay! It seems so weird, surely they are aware that first impressions last. The restaurant manager was nice though, very chilled, everyone else was non english speaking or not around!" (99493691)

We loved the exterior of the hotel, its a beautiful old building. The food was very nice.

Unfortunately they had modernised the interior of this beautiful old hotel, it looked bizzare and cheap. The staff were dreadful, there was never anyone on reception, it felt like we were asking for too much when we just wanted to check in!!!

welcoming and friendly - very happy to lend us maps, walking books etc which we appreciated

although we were not there to watch TV it would have been nice to at least tune it in to watch the news - a less complicated system would be better

Food in bar lovely. Decor welcoming and overall room standard good.

Cleanliness in bathroom was not up to expected standard - i.e; floor/corners/taps etc. Continental breakfast was below par for restaurant standard. Expected warm homemade croissants/pastries not supermarket shelf. Thought 10:30am checkout was a bit early!

The hotel appears very popular as a wedding venue. I can understand why, the food in the restaurant or the bar is excellent and the staff really go that extra mile to make sure you are happy. We personally would recommend the Maynard for good value and good old fashioned service!" (99649397)

"We could not fault the attentiveness of staff who were exceedingly helpful (we were the only guests on the first night of our stay). The food was excellent and not expensive. Some disarray downstairs with refurbishment in progress but this did not cause any problems at all. Smoke from the bar did drift into the dining area - but this will not be a problem when the new legislation comes into force in July and may not be a problem when the refurbished rooms are back in general use." (99511326)

Very helpful staff. Excellent food. Stunning location.

Decor of room a little tired but updating planned - refurbishment of communal rooms already in progress.

Staff laid back and friendly. Breakfast beautifully done-perfect tablecloth, service, excellently presented food eaten in a room overlooking lovely scenery. We were going into Sheffield for a concert and the manager took great pains to draw us a map and explain the easiest route. My only niggle was the less than hot shower. Otherwise great." (99325308)

In particular there was only 1 person serving at breakfast and this was obviously insufficient particularly at busy times. There was never anyone on reception and retrieving our room key became a problem, only solved by not handing it in !" (3305468380)

Full of victorian charm. Fantastic view from the bedroom of the gardens. Very large, well heated room with secondary glazing, and EXTRA large bed. All public areas were clean and decorated to a decent standard. Excellent full english breakfast with attentative staff.

Some fixtures and fittings in our bedroom (Albert) were in need of attention. These being, wardrobe door would not stay closed, sink panel very loose, bulb missing from shaving mirror, no remote control for the tv.

"Initial impressions were poor. It took ages for the water in the bathroom to heat up and the room felt very cold and damp. However, having wheeled the portable electric heater between the bedroom and louge area the room temperature was bearable. The whole bedroom and parts of the hotel definitely need redecorating. The staff were very helpful and the breakfast excellent. Again, the location of the hotel was perfect and the building itself is full of character but needs an awful lot of attention." (2951650)

Good comfortable bed. Pleasant bathroom. Very nice dining area. Warm towels from the rail.

Shower was not easy to use, and did not give hot water. Reception could be better. A buffet style breakfast for continental. Bar meals were good. The room would benefit from being double glazed to keep out road noise. We did not find it easy to find our room. (We found ourselves inadvertantly barging in on a meeting!) We where not shown to our room, which would have been more acceptable

"I didn't enjoy my stay, but there are some pluses before I moan. Location was fantastic the building from the outside looks great. Views from the dinning area were good, bar was clean and modern (surprising that it was modern expected an old traditional bar). Downside and there are a few; if we work backwards. Checkout took over 20mins we had to wait for the waitress serving breakfast to finish and then swipe our cards. Breakfast, people were complaining about the service or lack of, so I just grabbed some cereal. Waitress went passed didn't even offer coffee/tea, which most other hotels would when they see you come in. Hot water, well more warm water, a refreshing start for the morning! My view looked into the side of the building and a lot of vents. The building did have character but I would have swapped that for a good nights rest, you could hear door opening, people moving about. I think sound proofing wasn't around in those days. Finding reception, what a nightmare, tucked away in some cupboard, what was that all about? But the night receptionist was nice, offered assistance... I wouldn't stay there again, but I was shooting through, price was good, depends on the reason you are staying in that hotel. If you were staying there to see the sights and it was a central point. Maybe, I would look around a bit more though." (2899063)

It was in a quiet area and that is about all i an say about the things i liked.

Staff: there was one person, serving breakfast and doing reception. Wouldn't have surprised me if she was cooking and cleaning as well. Took me over 20 mins to check out
