Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"Disappointing, I assumed that Great Western had certain standards for rooms which were higher than the standards which we encountered." (107322580)
Friendly staff, reasonable breakfast. Not expensive.
Very small and old fashioned room with tiny bathroom, more like a (jaded) B&B than a Great Western 3 Star hotel, we were very disappointed, the room was gloomy and we couldnt wait to get out and about rather than stay there. It was not the stay that we had expected.

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"overall good, but price did not reflect in breakfast, would of preferred to have pain for 'room only' on this occasion" (107129784)
Room was large and clean, bed and bedding comfortable
Shower head riser would not stay up therefore had to bend to have shower. Breakfast item choice not very good, fried eggs only and had sat under cover a while. There was porridge covered near egss etc but did not know until after we had cereal, no notice to say there was porridge. Came back at 11.30 ish to hotel bar for coffee & liquer to be told 'coffee machine had been used all day and had run out of steam/pressure!'

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"I didn't think the food came up to the standard of the hotel. At breakfast the plates were cold and by the time you got your food to the table it was getting cold. I didn't think the choice of food at Dinner was good and we ate in the Bar instead one night. Staff was very friendly" (97575112)

Renovation is in progress so it is difficult to judge. When we arrived we wanted a coffee but this would have been served from the bar area which was not inviting - we chose to find a cafe elsewhere. First impressions are important and this did not impress us.

Excellent size room with great seaviews.
Hotel generally needed a bit of redecoration. As our stay was in December this may be adddressed over the coming months. Would not have liked to stay in one of the rear view rooms

The size of the room and the sea view
The bathroom was very dated and poor with the vinyl floor covering all pealing uparound the edges

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"The overall opinion of this hotel would be 3 out of five because of the poor service on day two at breakfast when we waited for 20 minutes for our tea and coffee order to be taken and noticed that people arriving for breakfast after ourselves were served first. The organisation of staff attending tables given that coach parties were there could have been more efficiently deployed the supervisor on this day could have helped his staff by clearing tables as well as helping guests to be seated. It would also be helpful if staff were given a set number of tables to concentrate on rather than each of them try to cover any table. Hope to be constructive not hyper critical! Overall this hotel is very good and we would return at some point" (97961053)
Room was very bright and airy sea view excellent pity that the curtains did not match the paper but overall that did not matter.
The size of the bath because when on holiday I find it nice to relax in a bath rather than a shower after a long walk.

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"the hotel had everything we wanted, the staff were very good and nothing was too much trouble for them.a small problem with the room lock resulted in us being upgraded to a nicer room for the inconvenience. my only criticism would be dont order the crispy duck for a starter as it appears the chef has not got the hang of cooking this dish and we had to return ours as it was inedible and by all accounts the same on many previous occasions but well worth the stay." Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"We stayed in room 184 which is on the first floor and has a lovely seaview. The room was very bright and clean and appeared to be newly decorated. Bathroom was clean and featured a (slightly weak but usuable) shower over bath. King size double was also clean and comfortable. Only slight downside to this room was that the curtains were ripped which made them look a little shabby. The cooked breakfast was somewhat disapointing, not a particularly large helping on a large plate made it all look a little lost. Tasted ok but you wouldn't want to pay the extra " (99106513)

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"Having lived in Hailsham/Eastbourne since 1993 until 2004. I have considerable local knowledge. As I wanted a good middle of the range hotel room, not too expensive not too cheap for a one night stopover, I chose your hotel and upgraded to a seafront/sea view room. What a total disappointment upon my arrival I was given room 294. The room had an electric heater, wall mounted, in the OFF position. Thus the room with single glasing has assumed the temperature of that outside zero degrees. I turned the heater ON and went out to a local restaurant for a couple of hours until the room had warmed up. Furthermore, I have travelled many continents over the years and I have never come across a bathroom so small as this one in 294!! Our cousins from across the pond would laugh at this recepticle!!. With only single glazing installed the noise of the traffic was also unacceptable. Personally, I would have been better off staying at a Travel Lodge for £50 less offers. At least you know what you are getting before you arrive Nationwide!" (3304158647)
Sea View
Havung the room above the outside temperature. Zero degrees on the day of my arrival.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and our double room with sea view was very clean and bright (despite the bathroom being a little dated!)The view was great, excellent location for beach and facilities. Breakfast could have been better: it was a little disorganised - the hotel was busy with a function, and we were asked to move tables unnecessarily by staff. Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"Sunday evening meal. I was the only diner left and after main meal, I decided to have pudding and coffee in the lounge. The staff were clearing tables and setting up the breakfast tables which meant it was very 'clatterery'. Also, served course after course, rather than a small break in between. Would like to see this improved as staff generally were very helpful and friendly." (2831495)
Stafffriendly and helpful
Food service. Allow time between courses not serve one immediatelty after the other.

The location was fantastic, and staff were helpful and friendly. I was able to check in earlier than the 1400 hours check in stated which was much neeeded, and running very late when we arrived, but staff saw me quickly to my room where I was able to get ready.
The price! I loved the hotel and t5he atmosphere, howevere unfortunatrely prices to stay away are so expensive, though this is a country wide problem, not just your hotel!!

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"The room was shabby, especially the bathroom - floor was lifting around the edges, the woodwork around the roof light was chipping and needed maintenance, the shower was barely a trickle and the toilet was not always easy to flush. In the bedroom, the fitted sheet did not actually fit, so as soon as we got into bed, all four corners let go - this made for a fairly uncomfortable sleep. I realise we did not have an expensive room, but I actually expected a bit more for " (99894847)
The location was good and the staff were friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good.
The room was a bit shabby (more detail below) - we did leave a comment card with the hotel on departure.

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"The location of the hotel is lovely...on the front.......the rooms were fine at the price.....and the breakfast was quite good.....except for the worst coffee I have ever tasted.... simply brown water. Why is it that seaside hotels in Britain have not the first idea about how to make a cup of coffee.....? Strange... but I'm sure its no worse than many others. Why dont they buy a cafetiere, some Illy coffee and a milk steamer or Italian plunger creamer? Not a huge investment." (3305242946)
Nice location
A bit creaky.... and fading grandeur

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"The staff was very accomodating, particularly in the dining room. The dinner was well prepared with a good selection of dishes. The room was clean and modern, but rather small. As an American, I thought the room rate of 90 pounds B&B (about $165.00) was rather high. The room was pleasant, but not luxurious, and did not have an ocean view." (2611588)
The room was clean and had all the customary ammenities. The bathroom, although small, was bright and modern.
The water in the shower was only lukewarm.

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"I was travelling with a small, extremely well behaved dog; so before booking a table for dinner in the Hotel Restaurant I checked whether pets were permitted in the Dining Room. I was clearly told they were welcome. Arriving for dinner, a waiter showed us to our table and we sat down with our menus. When the waiter came to take the order, he said pets were not allowed. I explained that before I booked I confirmed that they were, and the waiter said in that case we could remain. Before the food arrived he said the dog must leave. At this stage in the evening it was too late to find anywhere else to eat, so I had to take my pet to the hotel room for the duration of the meal. The Hotel should employ more honest ways to encourage guests to choose to have dinner in their restaurant, and find staff who are as courteous and cordial as my dog." (3305208930)
Large Room with excellent view.
Guests were treated very poorly by hotel staff.

The staff and service were excellent and the breakfast delicious. The hotel could do with a lick of paint and is a bit tatty, but we would be quite happy to go back." (3304953206)
The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The position of the hotel is excellent with amazing views and just a short walk to the pier.
The room smelt strongly of air freshner and was a little shabby. It was also very hot, but the staff gave us a fan which was very helpful.

Comfortable night and some of us rose early to use the small but well maintained swimming pool before breakfast. Good breakfast, promptly served on hot plates. Smoked haddock and poached egg - a bonus! Efficient checkout - no problems - an enjoyable overnighter." (3304083496)

The only minor issue is the availability of Wi-Fi, which only when we arrived and checked-in, was told it did not reach the side of the hotel where our room was located. Also, would have preferred not needing to walk through the dining area everytime we came in and out of our room." (2301914)

Best Western York House Hotel, Eastbourne - Reviews & Ratings"THe purpose of our trip was for a relaxing atmosphere in pleasant suroundings. The hotel was lovely but I would have liked to have known that it was more for the eldery. The background music was old time music. There was alot of elderly customers. Not that we would have appreciated lots of youngsters. But we did feel it was more for 55plus age group." (2302864)
Very clean. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Friendly atmosphere.
possibly a little too geared towards the elderly.
