Royal Hotel, Kingston upon Hull - Reviews & Ratings

"The hotel lived up to my expectations. I had a first floor corner room at the front of the hotel, ideal for people watching, as windows looked out onto station forecourt and main street. The hotel is currently being refurbished and the extra TLC is going to make a good hotel even better. " (108535934)

A period hotel in superb location for trains, taxi's and shopping district. Staff were friendly and accommodating.

The shower hose had partly come away from the shower head so that you got an uncomfortable extra gush of water when showering. Table staff in the dining room were more on the ball than kitchen staff. At one stage six customers were at the breakfast server picking over what was available, 10 minutes later after the waitress had shouted for more supplies, all dishes were full but the rush was over.

"Overall a pleasant experience, despite the mix up with the rooms." (108560799)

Reception staff were very helpful and tried their very best to sort out a problem that was not of their making.

Rooms allocated to us were already allocated to other guests. We were offered 5 different rooms (that were already allocated) before we got the rooms we booked.

"we had a lovely stay, but booking in ? out was rather embarrassing trying to get things sorted while other visitors were there." (108287201)

    very friendly staff, comfortable room

staff had no booking for me when i arrived, luckily i printed off a copy of my booking before leaving home, it took a while to sort out so i was given a key & told it would be sorted out later & i handed over the booking conformation i had printed. on booking out though i was asked for more money than i was quoted on the booking & i could not show them the printed off sheet has i had already handed it over the day before, so again i was left quite a while till this was found & amended.

"overall good, some points let down the room" (108457605)

Fine victorian decor close to town centre facilites

Drafty windows easily solved, evidence of damp on walls either from internal humidity (most likely) or through wall problem, both are fixable.

The Royal is a comfortable hotel in the town centre. The accommodation is good with a good breakfast. The staff on reception, and the restaurant staff are very helpful.

    No bad points.

Clean room, well decorated as was the communal areas of the hotel.

    "Not bad at all." (108857548)

There were key members of staff that were excellent, they even put coco pops behind the counter for my 19 year old daughter at her request because she was going to work at 5am! Fabulous location if you travel by train.

Breakfast was a bit hit and miss (no beans left and scrambled egg clearly left out for a while).

    "Disappointing." (107577205)

Reception and staff were excellent. Room was clean. Air conditioning worked and was efficient.

The room reqired redecorating, especially the ceiling which was stained from an earlier flood from above. The liquid soap dispenser over the wash basin was empty. On a point of safety, the copper pipe to the cold tap on the wash basin had been replaced but the earth bonding cable had not been reconnected. The bed was uncomfortable. TV reception was poor. The ceiling tiles in the corridor were badly stained and one was missing.

    " generally positive. " (107742106)

Building and decor high standard. Food- choice and taste positive. car parking excellent Location of hotel very central easy to access all local shopping theatres etc Bar staff helpful and friendly.

Booking in clerk poor communicator and unable to answer questions, she told us reception wasnt her usual job. Waiting staff at breakfast were preoccupied talking about the death of someone. I had to ask twice for tea as they were having conversations and not aware of customers. Would have welcomed the opportunity to be able to have a sandwich when we arrived back from theatre at 10.30pm but not available

"As I work away from home I stay in hotels all the time — mostly 5 star. The Royal Hotel was very good value for money. In a great location and the atmosphere was happy and welcoming." (107356454)

welcome, ambience lovely , staff obviously happy to work there.Nice that the hotel was rebuilt as it would have been. Bar /reception area welcoming.Location good.

Easily remedied — TV needs to be on higher table so that you can see it when in bed. this is important as our room was small with no room for chairs.( the size is ok as it was reflected in the cost of the room)The bathroom needs a bit anti mould spray in the corners.(this said, generally the hotel was clean)

"I know I have made some critisim but we enjoyed staying at your hotel and it is very central so will stay again in the future. The lounge was cool and airy." (107208008)

the staff were excellent friendly and helpful.

Unfortunately the board around our bath did not fit properly and was unsightly. We found the shower too powerful and difficult to keep at a comfortable temperature. We found the shower curtain too long and found it dangerous when showering. The tables were we had a drink should have been kept clean not sticky and spillages mopped up. Finally I found the staircase and well dusty from the third floor to the ground.

    " Good" (97124372)

Staff good genertally - friendly helpful but bad experience with car park detracted from stay

Reception did not change my car number plate number on their register when I gave the wrong number at booking in and I got a parking ticket - but the repetionist said this would be overturned by the hotel and I was given all the help required for this genuine mistake - and it is goofd to have free parking in busy city.

Gave me a suite when no doubles were available. The room was away from the station. It stood up to the earthquake!!!!

You do need to ask for a room away from the station , very noisy at night.

Gozy and classic place to staty with a warm welcome and happy faces to serve you

Noise coming from the Rail Station next door Confirmation email received was blank with only the reference number on the subject line. The reference number on the subject of the email did not match the hotel reference after I had to call to confirm my reservation and the on-line reservation functinoality took a long time to load and did not work properly.
