staff helful and friendly, room in good condition.

only real negative was that the evening meal was rather poor (wine very good though)

"If you can't sleep, there is little point in using a hotel. Thought the restaurant prices were expensive for the quality of output - either lower the prices or raise the standard." (107183189)

    Rooms are being upgraded.

Food poor. Poor quality of steak. Slow service - probably caused by slow kitchen. Room very warm, with poor ventilation, and pipework that knocked all night. I did not sleep well.

"generally we loved our stay and would deffinately recommend it to anyone and would intend on staying again with the exception of the privacy or peace in the lounge. many thanks! a beautiful kept hotel indeed!" (107169989)

excellent! very polite and fast check in and out process. all staff were very polite and coutious.

the only thing we found that each night (sat sunday) we had to share the lounge with wedding parties as doors were left open from weddings both nights and we felt that this should have been kept seperate for the private guests of the hotel. we had ordered food both nights and ate with wedding parties guests everywhere in the lounge.. fair enough some people from a wedding may come into the longe for a few quiet drinks but when the doors to the hallmwere loft open this left the wedding guests take over the longe as well as their hall which was equipped with a private bar for their own use.

    Lovely grounds

It felt like it was trying to be something it was not, fancy food on the menu, but once served it was a different story. Unknowledgeable staff who didn't anticipate your needs. Restaurant was far to expensive, and bar snacks were poor, what was ordered was different to what was recieved.

"Excellent value for money - really feels like a 'home from home'. Previous reviewers have complained about the long walk and numerous stairs to rooms within the hotel itself so I'd recommend them to take one of the appartments which isn't all that much more than paying for a double room. The appartments are just a minute's walk away from the hotel but set within its grounds and have a separate entrance and car parking area. There were two wedding receptions occurring during our stay, so we were pleased to be away from the noise. We did venture into the residents' bar later, but this was being used as a thorough-fair from one of the wedding receptions so our intended 'quiet drink' was beset by loud thumping music. I found staff 'business-like' rather than 'friendly' as other reviewers had described which is perfectly fine but breakfast arrangements were not explained and upon checking out was not asked if we had enjoyed our stay. I'd definitely return however, providing the appartments were available." (97594722)

We had booked the 'luxury appartment' which was indeed of a very high standard, brand new fixtures, tastefully decorated - especially enjoyed the bright tiled bathroom, large bathtub on floor of bedroom with several fluffy rolled towels and comfortable living area. The situation a short walk from the main hotel ensured privacy and an undisturbed night's sleep. Bed super comfortable!

More or less nothing, except we had planned to self cater and did so but the cooking area is quite small with inadequate pots & pans if there's more than one of you. Crockery for eating, cutlery and glassware more than adequate (in fact very nice) however. A microwave was advertised though we didn't find one.

Evening meal and breakfast were really good and overall service from staff was superb. Room service menu is held at reception, so take it with you to your room when you arrive!" (97330059)

The bedroom & bathroom were spacious and comfortable.

Mattress was too soft for me, but that's a personal thing.

"The bed was very poor quality in comparison to the rest of the room and furnishing. The food served in the restaurant was nicely conceived but poorly executed - e.g. chicken overcooked, very very weak coffee - generally it was pub food but at restaurant prices. While the staff were friendly, the service wasn't what we expected for such an upmarket setting. We had a discounted rate for the room and so felt we got ok value-for-money - if we had been paying full rates, we would not have been satisfied." (97070967)

Beautiful setting, manor house was lovely. Room was beautifully decorated.

The included dinner was not of great standard, veg under-cooked (and re-heated), although i suppose it was reasonable value for money compared to B+B only option. Can be a bit noisy/hectic due to wedding/functions. Overall would recommend, but maybe look to eat elsewhere if hotel is busy !" (97416018)

"We were impressed with the service we received and the quality of the food as there were only eight guests in total in the hotel. It would have been very easy for the staff to coast along doing very little but they kept up a very high standard. It was a pity we did not know before we arrived that the spa closed at 4pm on New Years Day. We arrived too late and were disappointed.I swam the next morning and had the very inviting pool to myself." (99892003)

A listed building sympathetically restored retaining many original features. A very good evening meal and good leisure facilities. Lovely gardens well kept. Good outdoor terraces etc. Staff were very welcoming and helpful.

As a listed building there is no lift and the room was up and down a number of steps. Would not have been suitable for those with impaired mobility. A number of functions were being held on the night we were there, this meant that residents' evening meal was held in a small dining room with set times for eating. Not a major problem.

Food lovely, evening meals delicious, however, the cooked breakfast did not benefit from being kept warm, but everything else lovely. Staff welcoming. I was there for some job interviews, but would definitely go again for a leisure break with my partner, as it is a lovley area." (3305315596)

"A nice hotel set in lovely grounds - go round to the gardens at the back. Rooms in garden block nice and in keeping with grade 2 listed building status, if furniture a little utilitarian. Bed very comfy however and huge! Dinner in the Coach House restaurant was excellent - good choice of interesting dishes and the waitresses couldn't have been more helpful. Buffet breakfast also good - and plentiful. Only drawback was the lack of a comfortable lounge as an individual guest as there were 2 wedding parties in." (3305241416)

Excellent value for money - special offer dinner, bed & breakfast. Food superb. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially the waitress who took our dinner order. Grounds lovely - a really nice surprise.

Lounge / bar facilities for individual guests nt part of a party. Can also be a bit noisy if wedding disco on, but garden rooms only pick up bass beat!

"Overall, we were delighted with the hotel. Our original room was slightly odd because it had a shower/bath within the main room although there was a separate wc. However, the fan was not working in the wc and we were then moved to a new room for pour second night. This was a lovely room with a separate bathroom which was nicely presented and our room had lovely views. I wouldn't hesitate to use this hotel again or recommend it to others." (3305019895)

The second room we stayed in was very good. Beautifully presented bathroom and nice views.

I stayed in 2 rooms. The original room had a shower/bath within the actual main sleeping area of the room which i found rather strange. However, we were moved to a second room in a more modern area of the hotel due to a broken fan in the toilet area of our original room and this second room was superb.

"Overall, we would consider this hotel one of our Gem finds and will certainly go back when we are in the area again. Very clean, rooms are spacious and well decorated, very pleasant gardens and friendly helpful staff. Food is excellent. If you are elderly or impaired in any way, might be worth requesting a room on the ground floor. There are lots of stairs (up and down) and narrow corridors to negotiate to get to second floor rooms in the main accommodation block. Worth the effort though. It;s quiet and has a pleasant outlook over the gardens." (3305003430)

The food!! We eat out a lot, and the food at this hotel takes some beating, it was excellent.

There was not much useful information in the room about wheere the leisure pool was and how to go about accessing it.

Would also have appreciated knowing that there were no minibar facilities in the room. Overall, minor whinges, but nonetheless, these niggles still make up part of the overall impression." (3304952399)

The room was adequate, but would expect a little more luxury for the cost.

Didn't enjoy being woken by two vans outside the window during the early morning - I thought they were actually in the room. Nor did the view of the two huge 'wheelie' dustbins outside the window inspire me!

the atmosphere really took you back in time in a real old georgian mansion but with all the luxuries to make a stay really specialo

The receptionist who checked us in was the one member of staff who let the hotel staff down, it was as if he almost couldnt be bothered to be friendly, we had a non smoking room but unfortunately there was a function on the same landing as our room and we had to put a towel along the door to stop the smell of cigarettes swamping our room - ? better insulation needed around the doors, cant wait for the smoking ban next year !!!!!!!!!!

We arrived at breakfast and was left standing not knowing what to do, one of the other guests told us to get a table and someone would come to us, they didn't so i found myself chasing people for tea, toast, butter, a teaspoon etc. The visit was still an enjoyable experience, well it would be wouldn't it, we left the kids at home. "The organisation of the breakfast catering needs reviewing: we waited ages for a waitress to provide coffee/milk as it did not appear that waitresses were allocated to areas of the restaurant. The wait for cooked breakfasts was much too long due to only one person serving. Why not have a self service bar for cooked breakfasts (or is this because the hotel wishes to economise on serving sizes?. In all other respects the Hotel is excellent and the staff are friendly and welcoming. Marks 9.5 out of 10." (3304372560)
