Best Western Midland Hotel, Derby - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel is very nice, clean, and comfortable with a helpful staff. The proximity to the train station is a plus, but it bears mentioning that there are NOT a lot of places to shop or eat nearby, and the hotel restaurant is quite pricey. Also, hotel breakfast is quite expensive and doesn't offer a lot of options. Considering how near the train station is, the room (ours overlooked the station, too) was actually quite quiet. We also stayed in London on this same trip and noise was a problem there - not so at this hotel." (99423275)

Best Western Midland Hotel, Derby - Reviews & Ratings"Good clean accommodation, noisy creaking floorboards upstairs, could have been warmer, lovely bathroom. the bar and lounge form just one area where people can smoke which is most unacceptable. Very convenient location for the station, staff very helpful except the one who served us tea and toast in the lounge area in the morning, she must have had a bad night or a bad disposition! The christmas decorations were embarrassing, just the tree would have been adequate if nothing better than red tinsel strewn across the ceiling was available. Need to review pictures on the wall in the lobby.............. I had all the information needed before arriving at the hotel" (99434265)

Best Western Midland Hotel, Derby - Reviews & Ratings"As a traveling supporter, this was the first time I was staying overnight in Derby after a football match and The Midland was recommended to me by a fellow Derby County supporter. He always books into The Midland if staying up in Derby after a game. I was hardly in the room as only stayed the one night but overall, I was very impressed. In particular - despite arriving on a match day wearing my Derby shirt, the security man on the car park gate was very courteous and helpful, as were all the staff." (99785599)
Everything! Bed especially comfy. Bathroom in particular was well stocked with far more than I could ever have needed.

The hotel was very clean and the room was generally quite pleasant. The hotel also is very close to the railway station and to local ameneties.
The bed was very soft, and not comfortable to those used to firm mattresses. Also there was no air-conditioning anywhere in the hotel. Smoking seemed to be allowed more or less anywhere in the bar / restaurant area even though there was a dedicated smoking room/area.

Ease of getting to via the road system although local signing could do with improving, ease of parking although with it being a weekend I expected this.
Price of food in the restarant. We went just across the road and it was about 25% cheaper for good quality.

it was clean and the staff were very friendly.
the bathroom suit seemed a bit outdated and the shower cubical if running and you opened the door the head was pointing striaght out on to the floor.

Picking up dumpsters for 30 minutes outside the window at 5:00 a.m. could be eliminated to good effect. Put washclothes in the bathroom. Glass not plastic cups. A clock in the room.

(quickly rectified however on checkout)Found the n ightly pianist in the bar area somewhat irritating after a short while - made it very difficult to hold a conversation. Other thsn breakfast quality of food was fair if soewhat expensive, room was of a good standard, bathroom clean (and the shower worked!) The young lady on reception said she would get on to it straight away. Nothing happened. This was the only problem and everyone was prompt and efficient. The room was immaculately clean and all facilities superb, will definately be booking for the same event next year.
None, all staff extremely helpful and facilities throughout the hotel were excellent.

Whole place needs a full makeover and upgrade if they want to retain these prices. Living on past glories unfortunately. I stay in decent hotels 3 nights a week and can honestly offer a fair comparison. At these prices, give this one a miss. You would be better to pay a fraction of this and stay in a travelodge type place; you'd get the same facilities and better quality. To say something positive - restaurant food is good, but still too pricey. Bed was comfortable. Piano player was good." (2339510)

Lots of improvement needed; rooms need upgraded, only basic TV channels, no air con, bar is awful - poorly stocked, too hot, stuffy, no air con, old fashioned and staff who haven't a clue.

The location of the hotel was really good, right on bus routes and near the train station and taxi rank. The hotel itself was lovely inside and really weel kept, the staff were pleasent and the room was brilliant, with great furnishings and facilities, it made a wonderful night even better.
Reception staff were quite ignorant and seemed very moody towards guests.

The hotel was very hot, would've preferred to be more airy. It also took a long time to get served at the bar. There seemed little urgency or understanding of who was next in line. I waited for 15mins on the Saturday evening with one bar attendant. The Managers should have provided additional resource to cover the busy periods. I ended up leaving the hotel to find other bars.
