The hotel staff were very welcoming.
There was an extractor fan right outside the window of my room - this was so noisy that I had very little sleep. When checking out I advised the staff of the noise and my poor nights sleep and they said that they were aware of the problem. Not good enough!

The staff were lovely, the room was great, we had a fantastic stay and will definitely stay again next time we're in Canterbury.
It's not a terrible fault but the pillows though made from down of some kind were like rocks so would advise asking for replacements if you suffer from a stiff neck.

good location, hotel nicely decorated and modern.
the room was very noisy, constant rattling outside all night so had very little sleep. our room overlooked a building and a flat roof so view not good. room was smaller than we had expected.

Abode Canterbury, Canterbury - Reviews & Ratings"The check-in process was smooth and since we had booked 2 rooms, the hotel was kind enough to give this one next to the other. Although it is not possible for taxis to get right to the entrance of the door, it can get close enough for a slight walk around the corner. Staff is extremely helpful and courteous. The location is fabulous - right in the middle of a variety of eateries and other commercial shops. It is less than 5 minutes (brisk) walk from the main bus station (nevertheless, carrying heavy/semi-heavy luggage this distance is not advised)...a bit more to the stations (East and West). Price-wise this is probably on the higher side. We have been to Canterbury thrice over the last year and have always preferred to stay at this place." (97030304)
Rooms were clean and decently sized. Location was great.
A little pricey.

Abode Canterbury, Canterbury - Reviews & Ratings"Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere of the hotel as good. There could have been a bit more information about the town itself provided in the room, but we were quickly able to get a map and directions from staff. We made a booking at the restaurant through reception but this didn't make it to the restaurant staff - but they were still able to seat us at the time we arrived. The restaurant staff were very friendly and accommodating. For the price of the stay £130 / £95 for each night we did expect there to be more - breakfast included, bathrobes in the bedrooms and comfy chairs in the room. There was also a very strong smell of paint in our room which wasn't very pleasant." (97946110)
The location in the centre of town was excellent. The bed was very comfortable and the room suprisingly quiet for the location.
The room smelt stongly of paint. There were no comfortable chairs despite the size of the room and there were stains on the carpet. It was rather disappointing that breakfast wasn't included in the price

It was central to amenities in Canterbury.
The room was basic for the price. The heating was manually operated which meant having to get out of bed in the morning and put it on..not great in the winter! The room overlooked the roof to a neighbouring property. Therefore absolutely no view.

Abode Canterbury, Canterbury - Reviews & Ratings"The idea behind the hotel was a good one, but it fell down in it's execution. The uber-modern minimalist theme was taken to the extreme with so little furniture in the room (bed, small desk, suitcase stand) that we were forced to spread our belongings on the floor. Room service came on a tray and it had to vye for space on the desk with the tea-making tray, our belongings etc. The entrance to the room was so small that room service had difficulty getting the tray in the room and we had difficulty getting our bags out. The bathroom was small and lacked space to put toiletries. The toilet flush was automatic and had been badly positioned (due to lack of space) so that it went off everytime we used the toilet, which got particularly annoying in the end. The flat-screened tv sounds lovely, but it was badly tuned in. The sound was therefore a little distorted and we had to turn it right up before we could understand what was being said. The lighting was poor - we couldn't raise it much above subdued. Difficult if you're trying to get ready to go out. Our ebooking clearly stated 'Breakfast included', but our final bill charged us for breakfast. On enquiring we were told rooms were quoted without breakfast. I suggest a) checking your bill carefully and b) making sure you print off and keep your emails relating to the booking. The hotel did amend our bill without question when we produced the relevant emails. Overall I thought the hotel was overpriced and overrated for what were nicely decorated, smallish rooms fitted out somewhat impractically. We stayed in one of their 'desirable' rooms. I can't imagine what a 'comfortable' room would have been like. Finally a comment on the hotel magazines which contained literature on the owners and the philosophy of the hotels. They promised a 'stunning hotel' and 'luxurious rooms' and an exceptional and memorable experience. I'm afraid not guys......" (3305236503)
The hotel had only just opened and therefore was very clean and tidy. The food was good although the service at breakfast was extremely slow when the restaurant had more clients.
The room didn't 'work' - it was impractical. There was no furniture in the room apart from a bed and a desk. Lighting was poor. The automatic toilet flush went off prematurely each time the toilet was used.

Abode Canterbury, Canterbury - Reviews & Ratings"For £89.00 it was reasonable, any more and I would have been dissapointed. A four star without leisure facilities? The buiding allows for a nice atmosphere and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was good and bar food excellent. Just a tweak of the little things and the hotel could be better." (2890849)
The Accomodation has an excellent central location. The building has the potential to display more character. The bar food was excellent. The room was pleasant but the whole floor creaked loudly.
The meet and greet by reception was dull and lacked a personal warmth. Quite abrupt and mechanical. The bedroom shower lacked power and the temperature guage did not mix the water properly so it ran too hot. The brassiere is a lovely room, we asked for the fire to be lit and were told by staff that they would if they had the correct extra long matches, which they did not. That was a shame because it would have made our evening a bit more special. Also the £5.00 charge for overnight parking is unacceptable when you are a guset and spending money at the bar on drink and food, let alone the actual accomodation.

Abode Canterbury, Canterbury - Reviews & Ratings"Firstly we asked for a room which could be accessed without any steps/stairs, this was accomodated, however the room allocated no67 was the furthest from the lift, thus my wife who has walking difficulties did not find this easy. Secondly rooms over the strreet should not be allocated to mature couples who retire before midnight. We departed the hotel on Sunday morning 23 October shattered from lack of sleep! The staff were excellent considering they apparently are being made redundant at the end of this year. The location is superb but the hotel needs upgrading and certainly is the poorest 4* Hotel we haver ever stayed in and we would find it difficult to recommend this hotel to any friends until we were sure the points raised here have been addressed. After leaving the hotel we went over to France and stayed in a 4* hotel which was great and we caught up on a good night's sleep. I don't imagine this will be taken notice of but I have got this off my chest." (2828047)
the room size was ok and tea making facilities were appreciated. The restaurant and bar food was excellent so were the staff.
The room was in need of care and attention, effective double glazing for rooms overlooking the street is essential as you get little sleep before 0230 hours.

We now live in the USA and always long to return home to Kent and to familiar surroundings but sadly not this trip." (2283367)
Breakfast!
All - a general deterioration since our last stay at The County which was always very highly regarded by the local community. As a Maid of Kent it was sad to see The County is dissaray. Rooms looking out onto the Post Office require immediate action to eliminate outside noise (throughout the night).

There was no parking in the hotel car park so we had to walk to a car park a few blocks away which could be inconvenient for those with suitcases." (2794739)

It was well-run, clean and the whole service experience thoughtfully put together. Breakfast excellent.
I think the decor is a little dated, but you can't have everything. The reception area feels a little drab in an 'England in the 1970s' kind of way - but there's a charm in that, as well. However, some of the furniture is magnificent but not enough thought has gone into showing it off in its best light. This could easily be rectified with a little interior design flair.

Room and en-suite were clean, light and airy -- very pleasant.
I am a 72 year old woman, and had heavy suitcases. No one offered help with the luggage, and my room was as far from the lift as it could be and still be in the same building. I found this to be very shabby treatment of a paying guest. They did, however, send someone to carry bags at checkout.

Not easy to locate by car - High st is pedestrianised and accessed at rear. My sat nav could not find it. By the time i found it the limited car park- about 15 spaces- was full. Best to get there at least 2 hours befor 2 o'clock to get space. There are public spaces about 1/4 mile at a cost of £7 for 24 hours. On line booking is unreliable. On checking my booking over the phone i discovered that it had not registered despite giving me a confirmation em and reference number. I had to rebook over the phone.
