the overall look of the hotel was outstanding, but on entrance it was taken away by the bad management of the check in desk, was stood for over 10 minutes while staff dithered over some problem
bad points were,we stayed in a room with no air conditioning apart from a fan in the corner of the room which when trying too sleep was made almost impossible,if you turned the fan off with 2 people in the room it became hot and unbearable within 20 mins,at over

De Vere Grand Harbour, Southampton - Reviews & Ratings"We were not particularly impressed with our stay. The service in the restaurant in the evening was ok but our drinks were taken from the table when we ordered new ones, even though we still had drink left in our glass! The location and breakfast were good but we would not hurry back" (97127359)
We were not told times for breakfast or dinner facilities, yet when we came down to reception later on, other guests were being informed of this. The view from our room, 123, was not very scenic to say the least. We were not sure if all of the rooms catered for disabled guests but ours was definitely arranged for someone who was disabled which was not our request.

De Vere Grand Harbour, Southampton - Reviews & Ratings"There was more space in our room than in comparable-priced rooms in other hotels we've stayed in. Service of the hotel staff was very good. Unfortunately the large atrium public seating area was roped off for a private function the evening we were there, which limited space downstairs to relax and have a drink. We liked the fact we were allocated a table for breakfast, rather than just joining a scrum as we have had to in other hotels. Would have preferred filter coffee to instant in our room. Otherwise a very enjoyable stay." (97997196)
Room was spacious Seated at table for breakfast buffet
Instant coffee in room - would have preferred filter coffee

We were made very welcome, all staff very helpful/polite and the food was excellent.
It would of been nice to have had "air con" and not a fan in the corner of the room

De Vere Grand Harbour, Southampton - Reviews & Ratings"A very pleasant 5* 2 rosette hotel let down in that instance by lack of aircon, much unwanted noise at night and incidents of poor service. The rear of the hotel faces a neighbouring leisure centre, and the function room appears to be at the rear. The hotel front faces an urban dual carriageway, busy at peak times on weekdays. Good facilities, within walking distance of shops inc John Lewis, free hotel parking, free internet access by 100mbps ethernet cable - make sure the router is plugged in and powered to work. A second visit on business a few days later was better including an unexpected upgrade to the front. Better." (97418000)
A spacious traditional room at 4th floor
The bed had no support in the middle - replace mattress. The room was too hot even thought the radiator was off, and the window was partially open. The window was locked open but not secure and was without a key to close it at night - essential because of the noise from clearing up from functions or adjoining premises. Bins being moved, crashing of bottles, tanoys and warning bleeping from 3.30 am onwards. So about 3-4 hours sleep. The window being key locked open required room service to unlock, but it presented a Health and Safety hazard because there was no window stay/restrictor. Service at breakfast was not impressive - order not taken for ages for tea or coffee and had to find a member of staff, and then the another 20 mins wait for it to arrive.

De Vere Grand Harbour, Southampton - Reviews & Ratings"Everything was fine except the restaurant! Ate there only once, partly because there was no daily change of menu, but mainly because there was nothing on the menu which wasn't dressed up in a fancy way. I know chefs like to impress with their modern skills, but isn't it possible to have a few simpler British dishes?" (99136108)
View was the back of the hotel. Would have preferred a view from the front, but online this was not mentioned

The grand appearance of the hotel was very nice, lovely reception area and restuarants and the location was excellent.
The attention to detail in our room was not up to the expected standard, I expected a hotel of that star rating would have everthing just perfect.

De Vere Grand Harbour, Southampton - Reviews & Ratings"Well I think I have made most of the comments above, these are meant as constructive criticism as apart form this we still enjoyed ourselves, Oh the room service menu was poor and no choice of pillows; duck down are preferred! As I say we usually stay in 4 or 5 star accommodation so i am possibly being too particular." (99419905)
The valet parking, the pool area.
well where do I start? , you state you are a 4 star hotel, we stay in 4 star hotels all around the world and this is a 3 star hotel. There was no air conditioning, even a travel lodge has air conditioning, the room was too hot, the bed smelled of urine, (not at first glance only when the heat of your body was on it and the pillows smelled of smoke again not at first only after a few hours of sleep, so possibly not housekeepings fault. You ran out of slippers and the robes had seen better days, there was no bottle opener in the mini bar and the toiletries were inadeqaute, no coditioner, or bubble bath. The toilet roll was of an inferior brand. And the fire drill at 9.30 am spoiled our stay as we have a neurotic child who was aware of this and was worried having been in a hotel fire before! Had we been aware of this we woudl not have stayed with you on this particular evening.

Very spacious. The staff in the restaurant were most unhelpful. After sitting down for Dinner (Table booked at 21.00 we were not served or acknowleded until 21.30. This was after I attracted the waiters attention. The food was daibolically over cooked to the point of being burnt. I did complain but I should have saved my breath
The over-all staff were not cutomer friendly!

De Vere Grand Harbour, Southampton - Reviews & Ratings"The surroundings of the hotel, especially the lake, were quite serene, even though a busy road ran alongside. The position of the hotel was perfect as our room overlooked the Medieval city walls and the Solent. It was easy walking distance to both and to the large Mall at the other side of the car park. The Pool and spa were lovely and extremely clean and well-run. All the staff were friendly and helpful without being sycophantic. The room was quite large and had all we needed - the absence of airconditioning could have been a problem, but a large freestanding fan was provided." (3304958530)

The dining facilities, gym and pool and proximity to harbour
The size of the room was inadequate for a deluxe room. The bathroom was tiny and too small for my husband to fit in comfortably - he is slim and 6 feet 2 tall so not enormous.

"Apart from the Meal - Satisfactory, I have stayed in De Vere Hotels before and always found them to be outstanding, The restaurant at the Grand Harbour let the whole hotel down" (108008383)
Room Clean (although did look at little worn)
Meal was extremely dissappointing - My daughters 'Chicken dish' was practically inedible unless you had iron teeth, My wifes meals was also very dissappointing 4 - 5 star hotel, with a minus5 star restaurant. I very rarely comment on hotel stays, as I am not normally one to complain, but I now regret not asking for compensation.
