Helpful and friendly staff; comfortable bed
Tired decor both in corridors and in rooms. The first room that I was shown to was cramped, dark, dingy, had ripped wallpaper in the bedroom, dreadful view and smelled badly of cigarette smoke. However, once I complained I was given a larger and nicer room although the standard of decor generally was poor. Noisy on saturday night due to weddings/functions but a letter was put under our door to warn us.

De Vere University Arms Hotel, Cambridge - Reviews & Ratings"We booked under a summer promotion, so weren't expecring a large room, however the bath/shower had black mould and our room wasn't cleaned properly when we checked in. The general interior of the hotel could do with some redecorating and looked worn and shabby. The response of room service was very fast, but at breakfast the next morning we were given a table with coffee stains over it and the staff were disorganized. The hotel served our needs because of its central location, but we wouldn't stay there again." (107130440)

De Vere University Arms Hotel, Cambridge - Reviews & Ratings"Cambridge is known to us, so I did not need much information about the town, just where was the most accessible hotel and one closest to my student daughter's halls. The hotel was ideally situated in Cambridge for all of our leisure activities. Museums, restaurants and shops all within walking distance. We lost some keys which were found by staff and carefully looked after by Housekeeping. We are looking forward to a return visit." (97934298)
The welcoming and georgeous environment. Wonderful beds. Ease of parking. Lovely ballroom. Kippers for breakfast.
The bar was rather bleak, although served good champagne.

heating system in room did not work - mobile radiator was provided carpet felt wet as if it had been washed and not dried extremely expensive bar - £8.75 for a single glass of fairly ordinary wine - this is ridiculous

Staff very helpful - we left some items in the room after check out and the reception staff acted quickly to ensure they were found and held at reception for us to collect.
Room very small and smelt musky - TV not working - air con did not work, we had to opened the window - woken by road works that started very early on the Sunday morning, if we had been told we would have stayed at another hotel ? this was my girlfriends birthday and it was ruined

The beds were very comfortable. The service in the breakfast room was excellent. The breakfast was very good especially the cooked breakfast, fresh and hot.Overall the food was very good.
The drainage in the bath and hand sink was sluggish. I reported it to reception but it wasn't sorted by the time we left. The decor in the lift seemed a bit tired.

Hotel not very clean, the glass doors were filthy, wallpaper was peeling off the walls, I found a toenail on the floor near the skirting board after the cleaner had been in (not mine!), the shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and the general look of the bathroom was old and worn. I have stayed at The Grand in Brighton, another De Vere hotel, and this hotel was like its much poorer relation. I would not recommend this Hotel because i don't think it provided value for money, however, the location was excellent." (97268917)

We had a booked a standard room & although quite adequate for an overnight stay, due to the size of the bed, there was not much room left. The bathroom was looking worse for wear & could have done with being replaced. However, everything was extremely clean & well presented." (97400020)
The room had a superking bed, which was extremely comfortable
The decor could have done with being updated - the bath room in particular was looking tired, especially the bath!

My partener required cook breakfast but 30mins later she hadnt come back to take our order whereas people who were seasted after us had eaten & left. Main areas were ok and breakfast room was nice
Room was small, pokey, badly cleaned with cigarette butts in the loo broken appliances, crumbs on the chair, and the refreshments were all squashed and the biscuits were broken.

No request was too much trouble and every aspect of our stay was made into a pleasant experience. The room was cosy, if a little on the small side, the bed extremely comfortable and the shower was one of the best showers we have used in a hotel! Our food was well cooked and the staff welcoming. It was a pleasure to see the staff enjoying the experience of catering for their cleimtele, whether they were adults or children. The view over Parker's Place from the Dining/Ballroom on a sunny, winter's morning was fabulous.
The bed was very comfortable, but a little on the small side.

Heater which had to be controlled by a hand held electronic device. No instructions available. The set up seemed unecessarily complex.Toilet handle loose.
