Sampsons Farm Country Hotel, Newton Abbot - Reviews & Ratings"Comfortable, but slightly expensive." (107357249)
Very friendly welcome, rooms were clean and tidy. Good area to stay with lovely riverside walks. Restaurant food was quite good, but expensive.
Nothing to report other than the vegetables were a little tough and the sauce overpowerd the flavour of the steak. I understand it was the chef's night off, so perhaps my experience was not typical.

Sampsons Farm Country Hotel, Newton Abbot - Reviews & Ratings"Fabulous but too brief." (107598170)
The Hotel staff were wlcoming and made a point of taking me to my room rather than simply directing me there. They gave me information on the local area and some forthcoming events. When i was leaving they made certain that i had been happy with my stay and the facilities. A very nice place that i would happily recommend to anyone going to Devon.

Sampsons Farm Country Hotel, Newton Abbot - Reviews & Ratings"I enjoyed the hotel apart from the room being disappointing. For " (108061110)
The restaurant is very good. Hotel is full of character. I loved being under the thatch. Gorgeous setting at edge of Dartmoor. Outside space of hotel is small but comfortable. They keep chicken, ducks and geese in the garden. The plumbing worked well.
Room not very clean. Fitted sheet was too small for the bed. The cupboard doors were grubby. The room was poorly appointed. One of the casement windows didn't open.

Sampsons Farm Country Hotel, Newton Abbot - Reviews & Ratings"Stayed for three nights over Whitsun half-term break in the Teigngrace suite which is more like an apartment than standard hotel accommodation, with its own fully furnished kitchen and Sky television. Very pleasureable stay. Staff friendly and obliging. Plenty of parking." (97996749)
Food excellent, accommodation (Teigngrace suite) good and spacious for our family with plenty of room to spread out.
Hotel was fine but website had incorrect price for suite we requested. Came to agreement with owner via email. Need to ensure this shows correct price for standard occupancy for 4 people. Also needs to allow for children to be stated at time of booking.

Sampsons Farm Country Hotel, Newton Abbot - Reviews & Ratings"Excellent place to stay, we were made to feel welcome and received first class service during our short visit. Situated in a quiet village with an interesting local walk by the river, it was ideal to unwind after the long journey from Oxford. We would have preferred to have a full en-suite without the wash basin in the room. Perhaps this was just unique the room we were allocated. However the overall quality of our stay easily out weighed this minor issue." (97134320)
Our accomodation was very quaint, clean and well presented. The bed was very comfortable. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food excellent and good value too.
Only drawback was that my wife was not happy with the wash basin in the room instead of the en-suite area with the shower and toilet.

Sampsons Farm Country Hotel, Newton Abbot - Reviews & Ratings"The location was amazing it was both beautiful and rural. The farm house itself was a traditional thatched cottage that really added to the atmosphere. The farm animals were a delightful addition to the stay. The resturant was one of the best I had eaten in for some time. We stayed in the stables which was a comfortable if small room with a lovely balcony looking out over the ducks and chickens on the farm." (97385242)
The location and resturant
The decoration the rooms was tired and dated. There was no bath.

the quaintness and the excellent breakfast
Breakfast served at 6.30 right underneath our room and with old wooden floorboards the sound comes right through

The heating went off in the accommodation around 9.00pm and came on again in the early hours of the morning around 3.30am would have better if it has been on during the evening.

Sampsons Farm Country Hotel, Newton Abbot - Reviews & Ratings"Great place, easy to find, but off the beaten track so very tranquil. The room was not huge, but had character and was very clean. The private decking area accessible from our room was a nice benefit. The staff were exceptionally helpful. I would be very happy to stay there again." (97844048)
Very freindly and helpful staff, beautiful surroundings
Was unable to get into the restaurant that night, would have been good to have had the opportunity to book the restaurant at the same time as the room

Sampsons Farm Country Hotel, Newton Abbot - Reviews & Ratings"The experience was particularly 'user-friendly' in respect of the hospitality. The premises being very old, the cosy communal rooms and bedrooms were on the small side. The cuisine and restaurant experience more than made up for the rather cramped bedroom. The overall management was first rate. Personal items of footware, left behind in the room, were sent on without fuss, or delay. A hotel that we should be pleased to stay in again." (97266251)
Quiet, rural location. Characterful, period accommodation. Very welcoming and homely atmosphere.
The bedroom was too small for anything other than an overnight stay.

The hotel is in a beautiful peaceful location yet within easy reach of Newton Abbot where our uncle lives. My sister and I found the staff really friendly and helpful. We also enjoyed watching the ducks and chickens in the field at the back.
The flies that invaded our room when we left the window open. However we had been provided with a can of fly-spray so we presume this is a problem one has to live with when under a thatched roof.
