Talbot Hotel, Oundle - Reviews & Ratings"Apart from the tatty decor of the bedrooms a pleasant stay. Staff very competent-they have to be with only two covering reception, the bar and the restaurant during the evenings! Breakfast was good, dinner not bad -pub style menu, good value rather than gourmet. Service could have been quicker -see above. Would stay again. Note: car park is behind hotel, go up past front of hotel for approx 400yds then left and left again. Also, some rooms are across the yard -take a brolly! Would stay again." (107974161)
Good staff, pleasant situation. Good breakfast
Tired decor in rooms, tatty even.

On 19th.Jan.we were welcomed extremely efficiently and pleasantly by a member of staff - a young man - who proved to be equally outstanding as barman and waiter. Others were adequate.

Excellant Food, Lovely Rooms.
Internet not free as it said in advert. This was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel and were very dissapointed to find out we had to pay.

Staff were very helpful
It was not possible to specify a twin room, so tow of our party were booked as a double when we arrived. Fortunately the hotel were able to switch rooms for us. The rooms were in a poor state of repair and in serious need of redecoration.

Talbot Hotel, Oundle - Reviews & Ratings"Good value for money, I would definitelt stay again at this rate." (107677024)
Good restaurant with varied menu at reasonable prices. Good quality real ale in the bar. Parking space.
The bathroom had only 1 of its 2 lights working as did the bedroom. Room in need of redecoration. TV needed more channels.

Talbot Hotel, Oundle - Reviews & Ratings"Good on the basis set out above." (107162456)
Very characterful coaching inn in old, attractive, stone-built town. We had a very good, on-line price for the night, and on this basis the short-comings we encountered were not over-whelming.
However, if paying the full rack rate for the rooms, then the value for money would be poor, and the building's need of refurbishment (especially in the courtyard bedrooms)would not be acceptable.

Talbot Hotel, Oundle - Reviews & Ratings"Welcoming friendly hotel of obvious age but clean, tidy and charming. Would not have been happy to pay the full 100 pounds but for the offer price was very good." (107246380)
Staff were friendly and efficient. Room was clean and comfortable, slept well. Restaurant had a special offer of 2 meals for under 9 pounds which was excellent value for money. The breakfast choice was exceptional.
The bathroom although clean was a little tired and dated and this had most of the afore mentioned silver tape everywhere. There was minimal silver tape in the bedroom. I asked at reception what the reason for this was and it was explained to me that a company had been employed to do the regular asbestos checks, necessary on a hotel of this age and the silver tape was the result of their work. Redecoration will be done when possible but it really wasn´t a problem.

Talbot Hotel, Oundle - Reviews & Ratings"Not a pleasant experience and very disappointing since the website made it look quite nice." (107222726)
Hotel quiet and central, easy to find and not fully booked
The booking which I made on line and confirmed by phone within five minutes of having the incorrect confirmation was still wrong on arrival. The tables in the dining room were so sticky the glasses and cutlery stuck to the table! There has obviously boon no updating to this hotel for decades! Room price was extortionate for the decor and nature of the rooms especially the themed rooms!

Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. Great location. When we asked for a few changes to the cooked breakfast, they were happy to oblige.
Lots of tape covering holes rather than proper repairs. Woken up at 6.30 each morning by staff running water just outside window.

Talbot Hotel, Oundle - Reviews & Ratings"Good visit. I plan to rebook again but my comments are constructive." (97625087)
Nice friendly welcome. Breakfast was good but the sausages served were hard. The young breakfast waitress (Eastern European) was polite and friendly. She deserves credit.
Room was clean but facilities are dated. Lots of gaffa tape used to cover holes in walls - very unslightly. Dated bathroom suite and shower. Refurbishment required as a matter of urgency. Ironing board cover was loose and fell off the board when you packed the ironing board away. An information pack in the bedroom would be nice. Signs should be erected outside the hotel pointing directions to the car park.Car park location should be included on your website too.

Talbot Hotel, Oundle - Reviews & Ratings"The standard of the rooms and general decor could do with renovation. The walls were bare of paint in many places and looked run down. For the price i think it needs renovationg as it would then atract more people." (97754537)
The resturant food was very good. Served up warm on warm plates
The standard of the rooms could do with painting and tape patches removed.poor state of decor.

Beautiful looking hotel in a beautiful setting
Staff seemed disinterested - as an example when asked to call a taxi handed me the phone and gave me a number to call. Hotels always call taxi in my previous travels. The firm I called didn't know the address and neither did I.

Talbot Hotel, Oundle - Reviews & Ratings"We stayed here to attend a wedding in Oundle and this was the only hotel availible in the area. We were reluctant to stay at first as it was quite pricey. The check in was quick and although check in was not supposed to be until 2 we arrived early and were shown straight to our room. The walls were very shabby, carpets old, very dated,in need of some revamping. The double bed was very small, kettle dirty but the overall cleanliness of the room was acceptable. This hotel was ok for a quick night away as we were bearly in the hotel for long other than sleeping. Breakfast was nice, buffet style with nice selection of food.Overall this hotel was ok for one nigt but would not stay here for many nights." (99088208)
it was a beautiful building in a lovely setting. Staff very helpful.
It was a bit shappy, carpets very worn, decor very dated.

HOTEL VERY CENTRAL
PAINT PEELING OFF WALLS. SMELL OF DAMP IN CORRIDORS. HAVE EXTENSIVE BREAKFAST MENU, BUT WHEN YOU ASK FOR SOMETHING, THEY DONT HAVE IT.
