Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"If you stay, do not eat there, and do not expect a clean place." (107316633)
Staff was polite
Dinner was not well cooked and we were charged for a meal as if it had been cooked by a professional chef, rooms was dirty, bathroom was dirty, price of breakfast was not good quality for money, and the milk on one of the breakfast was off.

The hotel was well located and very handy for access to both the city centre and the outskirts.
The staff were over-bearing and the arrangements for coming and going very restrictive!

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"we had a lovely four poster bed, in a huge bedroom, there was a C.D. player, and Discs, even hot water bottles in a drawer if it turned cold. The Young staff were courteous and very friendly, they couldn't do enough for us. I cannot ove praise this hotel enough" (99515368)
the hotel was beautiful, and the staff very helpful.

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel management maintains a very courteous, friendly, staff; there's excellent, off-road parking space and secure locking of the car park each night. The hotel itself, once a girl's school, is pleasantly opulent and charming. I had a comfortable bed in a reasonably spacious bedroom. Meals, in a large, comfortable dining room, were of a good standard with a decent variety on the menu. I enjoyed my stay there and would certainly stay there again." (99813132)
friendly, personable and efficient staff

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"Apart from the breakfast on the first day, which was a shambles, the organisation of the hotel was very good and the staff friendly and helpful. (The breakfast on the second day went like clockwork) Although the room was of a reasonable size and fairly well presented, it was let down by the bathroom which was a bit shabby and could have been a little cleaner. The room was in the older part of the hotel and the floor of the bathroom felt as if parts of it were about to give way. The bath had a hole in the outer panel. Although the hotel was on a main road, noise was not a problem in my rear-facing room. The location of the hotel was within an easy walk of the centre of Wolverhampton, and the secure car park was welcome." (99012669)
Well organised staff, friendly & helpful.
Bathroom in need of refurbishment.

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"Hotel very well situated for access to Wolverhampton centre either by bus or on foot. A lovely old rambling building; the manager was pleased to tell us the history, the staff were very friendly. Room was very clean, towels changed daily, ample storage. In the room was a blank video for use of guests to record tv programmes while they were out or eating, and in reception was a large selection of good videos to borrow free of charge. Breakfast service was very poor on Saturday - we had to wait an hour, but talking to the manager, we found that practically the entire hotel had arrived for breakfast at the same time (there was a CAMRA conference, and we all wanted to be in town by 9.15; breakfast wasn't until 8am at the weekend), and the waitress was new, only her 3rd breakfast. He hadn't anticipated this, but we said the same would apply on Sunday, and we think they managed to cope better (we decided to go down later). The food was okay, I found the cooked breakfast a bit greasy the first morning, but it looked better the next two days, although I then opted for the continental - cereal and fresh fruit and yoghurt, which was excellent. There was no option to have cereal with cooked breakfast. Despite the breakfast fiasco, I would recommend this hotel." (99280712)
Hotel was clean, manager and staff very friendly. Videos available.
Breakfast a bit disorganised and choice of food not very flexible.

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"A warm, friendly, greeting from hotel management. Made to feel welcome throughout my overnight stay. Double room was very comfortable and well-equipped, albeit being at the front of the hotel traffic noise from the main road had a tendency to intrude. Did not have an evening meal, only breakfast. The full English version was adequate, no more - a selection of sauces and preserves was lacking, whilst the cooked food itself could have been better presented. The plate, however, was red hot! Despite these negative points, I would still consider the hotel good value for money, situated in a prime location." (99676346)
Well-positioned hotel, within walking distance of city centre, but far enough away to escape major noise and bustle. On bus route and close to local shops.
On a main road where front bedrooms suffered a little from traffic noise.

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"I enjoyed my stay at the hotel, especially since some acquaintances went to school at Ely House in the 50's. However, since I was there for business reasons, there were a few drawbacks - the wireless internet access was sporadic at best; breakfast hours were limiting, and breakfast itself was served very slowly, even though my group opted for the continental style. Lighting throughout the building was very dim, especially in the bathrooms." (99770195)
I spend 45-50 weeks per year in hotels. I really enjoy the boutique hotel as a break from the high-rise chains. Manager was very accommodating, and responded to our needs well.
A small hotel like this tries to make each guest feel very welcome and 'at home'. However, I thought the weekend manager calling me 'darling' was a little overly familiar.

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"Situated close to a wide range of restaurants, which was good as the description of the hotel had led me to expect that it had a restaurant where we might get an evening meal. Also, close to the village of Tetenhall, which also had a number of restaurants. Hotel is on a main road and windows are single glazed, which means there is some traffic noise. Breakfasts are excellent. Hotel provides a selection of videos which can be borrowed free of charge - great to keep older teenagers occupied. Lounge was very comfortable, and bar had good range of drinks which weren't overpriced." (99949981)
Manager was extremely friendly. He was very welcoming on our arrival, and recommended a number of good restaurants locally.
When we arrived back at the hotel at about 4pm after a day out, the rooms were very cold and the heating appeared to have been turned off - not great on a cold January evening. It did come on about an hour later.

Friendly staff, comfortable hotel, so much more personal than the travel lodge style we had considered
Nothing, except there was a loud banging noise in the night that woke my wife, but the was probably unrelated to the hotel

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"This hotel is competing with the likes of the travel inn chain, whose standard of accommodation is extremely high in my opinion. The television remote did not work, and the sheets though well laundered were stained. As this was clearly visible, the fault is with the maid who changed them. The staff are very friendly and keen to help. The bar area is pleasant and a good place to chill with a drink after work. The room was a good size for a double room, and the bed firm and to my liking. They had a free video service, just borrow any video and play in your room, nice touch! The restaurant food is ok, limited to three choices and a vegetarian choice. The steak was good. I ordered cheese and biscuits for desert and was not asked which cheeses I liked, so got some I didn" (99352857)
Pleasen bar area. Video loan.
Stained sheets. Television remote not working.

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel was in a great location near to the city centre and there was a nice local pub near by. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We didn't eat in the hotel so we cannot comment on this aspect. The hotel rooms are a little dated and shabby and could do with a makeover and slightly modernising, however, the rooms were very clean and had all the ameneties you require." (3305109110)
Location to the city centre. Just far enough out not to be noisy but just near enough for all ameneties.
The tired decor

Nice, and cosy atmosphere and a very nice and helpful staff. The good thing about Ely is that even though it's a hotel they still make you feel like your in a family home.

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"Stayed here whilst visiting the VFestival in Weston Park - perfectly adequate for what we needed - a comfortable, clean room to sleep in. Well situated for this event as shuttle bus close by. Breakfast was good although I thought it was a little cheeky to ask for " (3305019255)
Easy to find with good parking facilities. Friendly, helpful staff. Good value rooms.
Room and hotel generally could do with a bit of updating - fresh coat of paint and some updated fittings would be an instant improvement - although this would probably increase the price.

Ely House Hotel, Wolverhampton - Reviews & Ratings"I would have liked to have known the timetables of the busroutes to W'ton and also the closing times of the shops. Is it possible by a longer stay to eat otherwise than in a pub? We were an elderly couple with a married daughter and her husband." (3305130746)
The friendliness of the staff and the history of the building it self. It was 60 years ago since I was in this area, but Tettenhall has not changed one bit thank goodness.
The slow working of the taps in the bathroom. The shower and shampoo dispenser above the bath, too high and hardly any comes out! The lock on the door took quite a time before it opened.

Friendly staff, well designed and thought out rooms with a lovely feel.
For a hotel that had obviously thought a lot about the design of their rooms, it seems almost unbelievable that they should then provide the bed with the most uncomfortable mattress I have ever attempted to sleep on.
