"this was our silver wedding anniversary,it was a pity the above faults were not spotted when the room was being prepared, apart from that we had an enjoyable stay." (107952024)

    good food, polite staff,beatiful grounds.

radiator in our room was cold this was fixed promptly the next day.although the towel rail in the bathroom was not fixed even though we had reported it.

    "Good, not great" (107411279)

Nice location, traditional hotel with nice features, great breakfast, spacious rooms, overall not bad

Although well presented, the decor is tired and in need of updating. The checkin process for many of my wedding guests was a nightmare, apparently due to Superbreak booking issues and some of my guests had to be relocated elsewhere!!! Staff not prepared for busy wedding weekend and were understaffed, particularly in the late evening (just 1 guy on duty, splitting himself between bar and reception!!).

Nice setting. Good location. Large room with sitting room. 2 TV's. Food generally good. Nice Spa

Very understaffed. Poor lighting - especially in rooms. Bathrooms need updating. Mirrors badly positioned.

    "Very good!" (107918653)

Staff very friendly, in a lovely location, very peaceful and quiet.

Not really any bad points, maybe just one. I stayed on the ground floor in the hotel, the windows were quite old and single glazed so I felt a little uneasy.

"Wonderful, relaxing, we would recommend to anyone." (107398896)

Just like staying in an old manor house. Staff very friendly, very attentive, very helpful. We were offered another room (because of a problem with our bedroom) which had seperate lounge area and a bedroom with a 4 poster bed. It was a lovely suite. The evening meal was excellent quality, and plentiful with a reasonable range of choice. The breakfast was an excellent buffet. The swimming pool, jacusi, sauna and steam room were all modern, a good contrast to the manor house part where our bedroooms were. Didn't use the gym but it was well equipped. Staff in the spa were also very friendly and helpful.

There was a problem with the lock on the door to the balcony from our first bedroom which meant that the door would not lock.

"Ok but would not rush back. Have stayed in far better 3* hotels & paid a lot less." (107800480)

Breakfast was lovely. Bathroom was huge. Downstairs was very pretty.

Main meal was cold & duck was tough. Not enough tea, coffee & milk in room. No face cloths provided. No mini bar. When leaving, staff never even said "hope you have enjoyed your stay etc". Could not turn radiator off in room, so had to have window open full & was still to hot. Hole in bed sheets. Long black hairs in the bed!

"extremely disappointed and would think twice about using active hotels again (this hotel was advertised as 4 star - I have stayed in better 2 star hotels in UK and Europe." (107435116)

room was a disgrace, furniture and walls in need of a good paint, squashed insects all over walls and ceilings, bathroom floor & wall tiles in desperate need of re-grouting, shower cubicle not fit for purpose and extremely dirty, no lift had to carry pram and child up and down stairs

    The leisure facilities were good.

Room very dirty, got moved to a suite which was also not very clean. Tried to book into restaurant, told it was full, only half of the room being used and still three empty tables when we arrived at 20.45.

"The restaurant staff were very attentive, friendly and efficient." (97676235)

    Spacious and pleasant decor.

The common hallway was in need of fresh pain. The tables in the room Tables in the room were scratched and therefore made the room look a little tired.

  • 7/10 Nick ( Solo business traveller)

from Kings lynn , GB  on  March 1, 2008

Room was big and warm. Food okay, having said that I did suggest to the waitress that I'm not sure I had much spinach in my pasta dish which inferred that it was in the recipe.

No half botles on the wine menu. Cobwebbs on the window, made the room look unclean, as you give a closer inspection eg in the bath room, where there was something unmentionable on the heated towel rail. Cracked floor tiles in the bathroom, and the shower was great but had a tendancy to wash the floor as well as the person in the shower.

"Dinner was reasonable but I would not have been happy with the choice if it had not been part of the package. Apart from a bed of spinnach and three small circles of potato there were no other vegetables. Breakfast was one of the worst I have had in a hotel for years. Choice of fruit was linited. The smoked haddock was undercooked and on a cold plate and quite unedible." (97250533)

I did fill in and leave a report form at the hotel! Bathroom - no soap, shampoo etc for the bath. Bedroom - lighting over the bed inadequate for reading. Television had no instructions for switching on and had no remote! The member of staff who came when called showed me how to switch on and then brought a remote. The TV was old, 5 chanels did not work, the remote worked once and then packed up! Although there was adequate tea & coffee it was surprising for this standard of hotel that there were no biscuits. The hair drier lead was not long enough or the wall plugs were badly sited to enable my wife to look in a mirror to dry her hair.

"Some of the hotel is in need of a little TLC. The hotel is in a lovely location and the facilities are good but it wasn't quite the luxury we were expecting for the money we paid." (97532920)

The facilities of the spa were very nice and the food was excellent.

Some rooms were in need of some attention; seemed a little tired. Breakfast was a bit disappointing in relation to the standard of evening meal.

"I would have liked to have known that it had lost its 4* rating the previous year, and was not rated at all. The Hotel is in a beautiful setting but the rooms were in a terrible state walls stained and very dirty. The bathrooms had mould growing on the tiles in the shower. We ordered room service and the remains of the meal on tray were left outside the door for 24 hours we had to ask several times for it to be removed. We chose to have breakfast out of the hotel due to finding cockroaches in the room. When we spoke to the staff they were not interested only to say that they were no longer a 4* hotel." (99408713)

    Spacious rooms.

Bathroom needed refurbishing as pipework noisy especially from rooms above us, shower tray did not drain water away very quickly so showering in a pool of water!

"The property needs an internal general refresh. Not a proper restoration, but new carpets in the rooms, some new blankets, and a good, in depth cleaning of bathrooms (those black stains in the shower or above the sinks are never nice to see). Buy some additional pool stick!" (99668114)

Large room and bathroom, plenty of space. Good service overall, excellent spa. Beautiful garden and property. A great stay for the price.

Old stains, old linen, a general feeling of deep dirt in some parts of the bathroom (shower), but it's something that need to be solved with a specific action. It's not addressable to the everyday cleaning personnel.
