"We enjoyed our stay; when the renovations are complete, we would definitely return to Hotel Noir, York." (107224909)

The hotel had very recently changed ownership. The new proprietors were busily upgrading and as a consequence, decorators were working. Despite this distraction, the staff were attentive and polite. The breakfast was first class.

Much upgrading in progress (tradesmen working).

"can not fault the hotel or most of all helpfulness of staff but will be more careful in future to check hotel website rather than read the description of booking agents advertisments" (107213496)

staff were brilliant and extremely helpful. went out of their way to bring the room to expected standard. close to town and where we wished to be.

room was not paid by credit card as expected on arrival. room was not reserved and had to show confirmation email of booking. reserved a superior room with added extras ie jacuzzi, straighteners, morning papers etc. receptionist went to a shop and bought straighteners for the room, no jacuzzi and no papers. very disapointed although cant fault the way hotel staff tried to ammend the situation.

I found the bed uncomfortable first night but when I mentioned this I was moved to another room without any fuss and that bed was very comfortable.

"The room was basic but as expected. The staff were excellent: always helpful and friendly. Full English breakfast was good, although the sausages were a bit on the small side. They did have black pudding though, which was a bonus. We noticed that when the shower was in use upstairs there was a leak in our ceiling. We did not report this to the hotel though. Overall, the hotel was basic but functionally and the service was very good. For the money it was reasonable value." (99319553)

Staff were very helpful and friendy.

A leak from the ceiling, which I think was from the shower above. However, maybe no-one has told the hotel about this; I didn't.

The staff were all very friendly and helpful, the room spacious, clean and comfortable and the breakfast excellent. Having read previous reviews which were varied, we were very pleasantly surprised and we can only think that as it is very quiet, perhaps this doesn't suit all people. It certainly suited us and we would recommend this hotel to family and friends." (99568651)

"Although myself and friends did enjoy our stay but the reception area could have been bit more upgraded and welcoming it was bit too cramped we regarded the propreiter very friendly and could not do enough for us pity we cannot say the same for the staff. On the outside coming in to the hotel in evenings could do with having light on in doorway as we kept tripping over on the steps. Tv in room did not have ceefax -it is always useful to have in case deaf people ever stay at the hotel." (3304044956)

Bed very comfy and teamaking useful, breakfast was excellent and spoiled for choice.

towels in bathrooms were not changed on daily basis.

"The Hotel was a good choice for sight seeing in York and we were able to park the car and not use it again until we left. We had a fist floor room fortunately as there is no lift but we managed to get out luggage up the stairs. The door is locked at ten but you are given a key so you can get into the Hotel if your out and about in York There is a pub next door that at first looked off putting but on taking a second look was ok and a good place to finish off your evening out in York." (3305080528)

The accommodation was close to the centre of York and we were pleased with the choice it was a friendly hotel with an excellant breakfast

Nothing to dislike the room was clean as was the bathroom even the tv worked.

"Good value for money. Slightly dated but good service and breakfast and only a short walk to the city centre. A few unexpected freebies like bottled water and chocolates on our pillows (not sure if this was because we were on our honeymoon!) Also it had a bath- don't get many of these in B&Bs." (3304526243)

Very clean and a short walk to the city centre. Good breakfast and they let us keep our car in the car park for a few hours after we checked out

Slightly dated- lots of pink flounce and florals. It is a bit like being in the crystal maze; lots of doors to go through to get to your room. It took us about 4 wrong attempts after a few drinks to find ours!

Very cheap, nice breakfast selection in mornings.

Quite small rooms, took a while for them to be ready after the check in time of 1400. Using the shower led to a flood in the bathroom, also our particular room was at the front of the house and quite noisy, although that cannot be helped.

"The hotel fulfilled all advertising promises, it was clean and the rooms were decorated in keeping with the name of the hotel. The breakfasts were excellent - cooked freshly to order, not cooked en mass and left to congeal. The bed was very hard which caused difficulties for my husband as he has back problems. Other than that I would recommend the hotel and facilities." (3304470856)

Room was clean and pleasantly decorated in line with the name of the hotel. Proximity to Minster was accurate (10 minutes). Breakfasts were ccoked to order instead of being cooked in bulk and kept ewarm to congeal and dry out

    Bed was very hard

Quiet, comfortable and relaxed. Close enough to walk to town centre.

Difficult - bed could be bigger but in an old building the rooms don't allow that. More or bigger towels.

"Me and my partner were looking for a nice romantic break, i saw that cottage hotel had superior rooms with 4 poster beds and the price was very reasonable. I new from reading customer reviews that some people had said it was a little run down from the front of the building.. but when we arrived it didnt look too bad. The reception area was abit oldy worldy.. but the lady who greeted us was very polite and showed us up to our room.. i requested the 'rose room' which was very romantic.. very pink..! There was a lovely surprise aswell... a jaccuzzi bath for two. We were pleased with the little touches... like... a small box of quality streets and a box of tissues... just little things that made it feel really homely. Overall it was an excellent stay.... nice and quiet. We would definitely go back." (3304403937)

easy to find, great staff- always polite and helpful. Free parking for the whole stay.

the stairway/stair carpet is a little dangerous (i fell down the time i walked on them) so more warnings or at least more warnings. Also a little more information as to the best pubs/clubs/restaurants, as a young couple we found it quite difficult.
