"Very good. Highly recommend it. Just a shame bathroom was a bit disappointing. Staff were very friendly couldn'd do enough for us. Very clean all over the building. Temperature very good despite size of building. Would visit again if lived closer. Great nights sleep." (107596616)

Beautiful Hotel. Excellent Location, First class Service in Bar, Restaurant and Reception dealt with bill query quickly and efficiently. Lovely period bedroom very comfortable bed. Fabulous Cellar Bar

Television reception was lost during England Football match to my partner's annoyance. Bathroom was in need of modernisation, poor hot water temperature and power. Unsure if due to age of building?

"A great weekend made better because of the unique style of this Hotel." (108030082)

Stunning location, Unique style, well maintained, Comfotable bed.

Difficult to find your way around, no clear layout map of building or facilities. Definately focused more towards corporate / social functions than individual weekend visitors.

Loved the setting of the wine bar... (though could use a new sound system!!)

I requested a twin room rather then a double as I was travelling with a married male friend rather than my own partner - I realise that requests are not guaranteed but it was a little embarrassing when this hadn't been arranged at the hotel. The receptionist happily resolved this by provding us with a family room instead, for which we were very grateful.

"Accommodation was superb and the staff were very helpful. We felt it to be a perfect location for a short-break, whether it be for a romatic break with your loved one or with friends. The surrounding area has plenty of walking trails to try if your feeling energetic and fishing areas for that extra bit of peace and quiet. We found good local pubs and restaurants within a mile or two of the Castle. We drove to Chester for a day to do some sightseeing and shopping; Chester was very easy to access from the Castle. We were also very interested in the various theme nights the Castle has to offer such as The Murder Mystery evening dinner which we think we might try next time we visit. Just wish we had realised in advance that the Castle was actually having a Murder Mystery the very weekend we visited as we would have definately gone and brought some extra friends along too." (97175477)

Great value accommodation, great view from window of our rooms overlooking the grounds. The room was clean, comfortable and inviting, couldn't fault it.

Nothing at all just wish that we were able to use the fire in our rooms, we had read in a previous reviews that other guests had been able to but ours was bocked off but fire place still looked great and heating in rooms more than adequate. Perhaps they don't use the fire's in the rooms anymore because of health and safety which I suppose is fair enough.

The whole experience of staying at this hotel was fantastic and i will certainly be staying there again.

There was no shower in the room, but an early morning bath made a pleasant change. I understand form colleague who have stayed here that this is not the norm.

    general ambience and 'something different'

disappointed about cleanlinees of room. There was Hairbrush leftover, no toilet rolls and WC had not been cleaned. Duvet in two pieces did not help with ease of sleep.

"Fantastic location and extremely novel to stay in a castle. The facilities and standard of the accomodation was extremely good for the price. In fact it was superb value for money given that it's only an hour from Liverpool/Manchester - for the same price I'd be staying in a flea pit in the city. Although my stay was over the summer, I can imagine the large rooms and corridors get rather cold in the winter. And although the peacock in the courtyard adds character, someone needs to gag him at 4am!" (99852547)

the hotel was everything we expected it to be. a great setting.

the food was a little overpriced and they seemed short staffed at times, the bar wasnt open and it was if they had just drafted in a few waitresses on the night. oh yes, the peacocks need a silencer in the morning!

"Facilities were excellent and staff were great, especially helping with the little 12 month old. The drinks bar in the dungeon was a real treat and looks cosy during winter." (99292109)

Room was comfortable, the facilities were tip top and suit the style of the castle. Water was very hot so good for winter visits.

Some of the linen was not present when we checked in, but was quickly given when we asked. Was not easy to find the room as it was round a corner and up a turret, but after trial and error, finally found it.

"We were impressed by the efficiency and helpfulness by all the staff and the alacrity with which they reacted to the smallest detail or request. The general high standard of the meals and table service was a delight rarely found today. Likewise the helpfulness of all staff was outstanding and much appreciated. Much of the enjoyment of our short stay came from the unknown and unexpected." (99005007)

The overall high standard and the thoughtfulness in range of toiletries.

Failure of air conditioning in room 201 Light shine through and noise from bathroom of adjacent suite to room 311.

"Friendly staff, especially in the restuarant. Fantastic experience, however this still could have been improved by capitalizing on the castle's original features, eg the wine cellar bar, as we were stightly disappointed by the lack of this same medieval feel in the new restaurant. I wish we had been informed about the landrover experience being on site as we were unable to book this on the day. Also, it would have been great to find out more about the castle's history, as we were told briefly by one of your reception staff that a Robin Hood film was filmed there. More about this could have been printed in the welcome pack or perhaps displayed on plaques around the castle. Overall though, still a fantastic experince and would definitely stay there again to explore the rest of the castle when more of it has been renovated." (99792792)

The ambience was amazing, especially the wine cellar bar. I would have liked to have seen this kind of atmophere in the main restaurant.

The shower in our room did not work properly. The temperature was too high to start with and couldn't be lowered, then after approximately 10mins the hot water ran out.

"The Hotel/Castle itself is a magnificent looking building and it has kept its personality throughout - although definately worth mentioning when booking any walking/back problems as you would need a ground floor room as there are so many steps!!! I found the restaurant menu very limited for vegetarians (there was only one choice which we found very disappointing)- and the menus presented in the guest book in the bedrooms were not available (these offered several choices and a 3 course special!!) Overall, very pleasant." (99355080)

"Fantastic experience, if you love castles than you must stay here. We stayed in a standard room whcih is the one without the four poster bed, it is the room with the bed spread on the picture. We had a lovely breakfast that was included in the price which had a great chice. The meal in the restaurant was quite pricey for what you got and not a lot of chice, but it was worth having as part of the experience. Beeston castle nearby is a nice trip but a steep walk to the castle, Chester is close enough to visit in the day, but wouldnt reccomend if thinking of a night out there. Nice toiletries in the bathroom, irons available on requset, lovely big comfy clean beds. This hotel is a very romantic get away and well worth the money." (99382378)

beautiful castle, we stayed high up in a tower which was fantastic, great for exploring, very welcoming staff, lovely clean room.

The castle was absolutely fantastic and very fairytale. Any girl would love it. The whole place is so clean and very warm and cosy. The small chapel at the bottom of the garden makes it such a wonderful setting.

"I booked this as a surprise for a valentines weekend. We were absolutely amazed as we drove up the windy road surrounded by trees and when we actually drove into the castle courtyard we were almost speechless. It was really something and very grand. Most rooms were heated by log burning fires which gave that cozy feeling. Our room was lovely and clean. At night we had a few drinks in the wine cellar bar which again was very nice. My only suggestion is that maybe a separate bar to serve bar food if the restaurant is booked." (99646107)

Some were quite new and will be more knowledgeable in time The hotel was good, but lacked a few personal touches - plants/ flowers/pictures . There was no evident person in charge which would have made it more personal. There were probably people who could have done this, but it wasn't obvious. The staff are on a learning curve, but were very friendly and helpful. I prefer a friendly face to absolute efficiency'!" "I think the hotel is perfect for a truely romantic stay. As I have mentioned, myself and my partner have rebooked to stay at the castle on Valentines day. One piece of advice I would offer however, is to arrive in day light if possible. Not only then can you find your way up the drive safely and knowing you are going the right way, but you also get to see the castle in it's full glory. That said, I would encourage you too just take a step outside at night when the lights have been turned on, to see something truely magical." (99550084)

It was exceptional. I was extremely impressed with the whole set up of the hotel. Small touches such as the guest toilets having signs saying Damsels and Knights. It is the original fairytale place. Both myself and my partner were that impressed we have booked our Valentines celebrations at the castle.

Two problems which I noticed was, the way too the rooms was not clearly sign posted neither was the way back to the reception incase you got lost. Secondly, the fact that the bathtub/toliet and sink were plastic was a let down. I can understand it will have had to be done probably for cost, however to keep with the theme of the rest of the room and hotel it was a disappointment.
