"The hotel and room clealiness was good, but the service received from staff was disappointing given the class of hotel." (107364562)

The hotel looks great and has fantastic gardens for the wedding photographs. The hotel was clean and tidy and well furnished. The service received during the wedding breakfast was good, with staff refilling wine glasses regularly. The selection of breakfast food was good and there were generous portions of the cooked breakfast.

At breakfast the day after the wedding, the service from staff was less than expected. We advised the restaurant manager that we were with the wedding party and asked if there was a large table or area for us to all eat together. They advised that there was no table set up for the wedding party, and we were shown to a table in one of the dining rooms. The groom who had seen us seated, came to our table and advised that they had in fact, reserved a selection of tables in a different room so that the wedding guests could be sat in a room together rather than dotted around the hotel. We asked to be moved into the other dining room, and were accomodated. We asked for more coffee when our breakfast was served, the service was very slow and we had to ask again for coffee, by which time we had already finished our breakfasts. One of the guests did not have any black pudding on their breakfast plate, they did not have an opportunity to advise staff of this as no one came to ask us if our breakfast was okay. I would have expected a check back from staff at some point during our breakfast.

"Very pleasant. Lovely public areas, well maintained. Excelent dining room presentation and breakfasts." (107990828)

The staff were very welcoming and friendly in every way.

There was confusion as to which package the staff thought we were on and therefore what would be inclusive for us e.g afternoon tea on Christmas Eve. We felt we had to ask what we were entitld to! Their handout letter on arrival was a bit confusing. Our stay was from Tues 23 Dec to Boxing Day and so straddled their "packages", we think! They did not seem to be up to speed on their internet bookings. Also there was confusion for us and others as to where our (free)pre lunch drinks would be on Christmas Day. Our room was small - ok. Very nice bathroom. However, there was no drawer space and nowhere to put cases out of the way which was difficult and we had to use them as drawers.

Size and quality of the room. Old fashioned cigar room. Decor and charm. Friendly staff but not 'over the top'. Good food. Room service.

Nothing. Dining was a bit on the expensive side.

    The setting is excellent

The food was extremely poor for the cost. The wine is over-priced.

"Overall, we were very impressed with our short stay at the hotel. Because of the noisy door outside our room on the first night, we were upgraded for the second night to the June room which was simply outstanding and a real treat. We ate in the hotel restaurant on the fisrt night of our stay and while service was impeccible, we both found our food while being well presented, to be lacking in seasoning and therefore tasting a bit bland. As we both had different choices, you can see that it refers to more than one dish. We also noted that, even though construction work was taking place during our stay, apart from what is visable as one exits the hotel grounds, disruption and disturbance was very much minimal" (99612856)

    The Setting

Two Doors Basically - Firstly, the main door entrance to the hotel was quite hard to open and secondly, the Fire Door outside our bedroom on the fist night of our stay banged noisily aginst its frame all night as people walked through.

The accomodation was to a high standard of cleanliness and order

The building work outside our window, which started at 6am on Friday 25th January 2006, and again at 7:30 on Saturday 26th January 2006. There was no warning of this.

"The location and buildings provide a superb country retreat, and the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff is quite outstanding. The food is also extremely good, although I would say that the wine list is a bit on the expensive side! I just wish we could have stayed for their legendary afternoon tea!" (99878656)

The room was magnificent with stunning views of the surrounding gardens and countryside. The receptionist kindly upgraded us as it was my birthday!

There is extensive building work going on at the hotel, although to be fair it didn't really affect us except for the exit road! However once the work is finished in summer 2007, this will be an even better hotel with excellent leisure facilities.

The staff were exceptional everyone we came into contact with were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Our stay there was one of the best we have ever had and we will certainly be back. The only criticism was the room service we had was expensive, " (99033293)

The whole experience had a quality feel to it.

Nothing really. The restaurant prices were not cheap, but not that different to anywhere else at this end of the market. If you chose to eat out there is plenty of choice in nearby Nantwich.

The staff are friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble, the service is fast and effiecient and always with a smile. The rooms are fabulous, spacious, and luxurious with brilliant bathrooms to help relax. The hotel really is a pleasure to stay at.

A bit pricey for some items, but then again someone has to pay for this much qulaity.

The style and decor of the rooms and reception areas, and gardens well maintained. The food was of a very high standard.

Ants in the shower. No fan provided in the hot weather. Bedroom windows did not lock. It would be nice if windows could be left open but secure from intruders. Ceiling in the shower, paint peeling.

"This was a very comfortable overnight stay with good facilities and a very large room with all mod cons. Apart from the slightly musty smeel which I think was due to the leaky shower and wet carpet, my only adverse comment was that although the meal was exceptionally good it was more cordon bleu and as such quite expensive. If I were to stay there for more than one night I would probably find eating there too expensive and there is nowhere close within easy reach to go to eat. Nantwich is ~6miles away and would need a taxi to get there. Overall though I was impressed with the hotel." (3304880249)

Spacious room. Comfortable bed. Good shower.

nothing really but the shower had leaked which had made the carpet wet and left a slightly must smell in room.

Staff seemed more interested in wedding guests." (3304583864)

"If you are looking for a peaceful retreat amongst stunning surroundings then this is the place! Rookery Hall is a beautiful building with a generally well kept interior - dining areas/lounges especially. The staff go out of their way to make your stay an enjoyable one. Just make sure they put you in a well kept room - don't settle for less!" (3304588588)

The staff were lovely - very friendly - lovely relaxed atmosphere. The hotel and grounds are stunning.

The first room we were put in was very disappointing. The carpet was so worn out that I was shocked the room (No.18) was in use - once replaced, this room would be lovely. However, when I explained how I felt, we were moved to another room which was beautiful.

"We could smell the wood rot wafting from our bathtub panel before we put the key in the door, which together with the disgusting black grunge throughout the tile grout made one reluctant to take a shower or a bath. The entire bedroom seemed as tired and threadbare as the hall carpet. We chose this hotel for our anniversary because of the reputation of the restaurant, which did not disappoint. The staff was immaculate in every way as was the food and the wine list, but the extremely sorry state of the hotel accommodation made us reluctant to spend as much money on dinner and wine as we otherwise would have and ruined what could have been a memorable evening. We didn't bother spending " (3304710731)

The hotel grounds are beautiful, very peaceful and relaxing. A sheet and blanket hotel who's housekeeping staff was nice enough to search for over an hour to find us a duvet. Although reception was a bit taken aback that we would actually request the fruit bowl offered (on a card in our room)we did receive it with a smile.

The hotel entrance, sitting rooms, dining room and reception area totally belie the state of the sleeping accommodation. We went from opulence to degradation in the length of the hallway to the bedroom.
