The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"Overall very good. Our room was generous in size with great views of Penarth and Cardiff Bay. Our bathroom was luxurious and well decorated with stone and tiles. All of the staff were professional and courteous. The small television should be replaced with a normal size or big screen television. " (99056630)
Fantastic views. Professional courteous staff. Generous room size. Luxurious bathroom with bidet. High speed internet connection.
TV was too small (14 inch?) -- my laptop has a larger screen. Housekeeping did not vacuum clean the carpet in my room.

Lovely views and position for our needs.
Spa facilities were poor the pool and sauna were closed. Breakfast could have been hotter and the waiting less manic.

The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"Was really looking forward to my stay as it was supposed to be a five star hotel. Did not feel it lived up to this with regards to the rooms. Would say that the Marriott in Cardiff which we stayed in during May was better value." (108008033)
Very friendly staff
Booked bay view but found the room quite sparce. Asked about comfortable chairs for sitting on and was informed this was only provided for the suites. When we checked out the next day we look in the room next door which had a nice comrfortable chair!

Courteous Staff. Good breakfast.
I had booked using your Website. When I arrived there was no record of my booking so we were kept waiting 30 mins for a room

The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"Excellent other than the dining experience and we enjoyed the full welsh breakfast!" (97351051)
Rooms were pleasant. Excellent view. Wonderful location. 2 easy chairs would have been useful in the room. Bed, linen and pillows were excellent (my wife wishes to purchase one of your pillows). I described reception as adequate but this was only marked down as a number of guests arrived at the same time. When I reached the counter the receptionist was most helpful. The uniformed staff upon the door were most helpful as was the concierge.
As only opened in 1999 thought the place would have been designed with a separate shower cubicle. The flush on the lavatory was not too efficient. The washbasin plug hole was also a little slow to drain. The dining room experience in the evening was dire. Having booked for 8pm and arriving at 8.05pm my wife and I took a seat and after 10 minutes I asked the barman what one did to get a drink and a menu or two, and the barman who was exceedingly busy arranged for staff to attend our wishes, which resulted in our getting a drink, 2 menus and the waiter ticking his chart to note that room 707 had arrived. 25 minutes later the barman kindly enquired whether we would like another drink. We said no, but would he arrange for us to go to our table. He approached the restaurant area, spoke to the manageress, who stated that we could not go through as the chef was not coping. I informed the barman that after all this time with dire service and then left unable to go to the table I would rather cancel the booking and requested a suggestion as to the next best restaurant in Cardiff. The restaurant manageress came over and enquired at that point whether we had a booking and I explained that her colleague had acknowledged our booking. Upon leaving the bar to seek alternative food I met the receptionist with 2 guests and advised them that they would find it a long time before they managed to eat. The receptionist requested me to advise the night manager of my experience. He was most apologetic and arranged for a car to take me into the bay area to find a meal at his alternative suggestion. The manageress came ino the reception area and apologised and said she didn't appreciate I had a reservation. Following all my protests everybody involved was most apologetic, helpful and said that lessons had been learned. During the next 2 days I was unable to return to the hotel restaurant to experience what I am sure would have been a happier time.

The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel is located right on the edge of Cardiff Bay, with a lovely view of the water and the buildings at Cardiff Bay. It is approx 5-10 mins walk from the bars and restaurants at Mermaid Quay and 10 mins from the Millenium Centre. However, it's a more substantial 25-40 mins walk from the city centre & castle (though there are buses every few minutes from Mermaid Quay) Several reviewers have mentioned the lack of tea/coffee making facilities. This is true, but Room Service will provide a tray free of charge if you call them (you just have to call everyday) Otherwise room was fine, was a large/comfy bed & all the facilities you'd expect (mini fridge, mini safe, mixer shower, colour TV etc) Breakfast was also good, with a varied selection and attentive staff. If your on a budget then other hotels offer better value for money. But if you want to pamper yourself then this is a good/very good hotel." (97239274)
Good quality hotel, great view, very handy for Cardiff Bay
Had to phone Room Service everyday for drinks tray (otherwise everything fine)

The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"I was not impressed. The car park fee of £8 per day was too high and should be included in the price with the room. I waited too long to be served breakfast and then received just two poached eggs when I'd ordered a full Welsh breakfast. Had to complain to 2 staff before I got the breakfast I'd ordered. I was in the breakfast room for just over 50 minutes which was far too long. I doubt if I would ever stay here again as I consider the hotel over rated." (97213549)
I didn't find anything special in the accommodation. I have stayed in much better hotels with better facilities at half the price.
I was staying as a single and yet paid for the room as double accommodation.

The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"The majority of the staff are so friendly it is a delight but we did not feel as though this was a 5 star hotel." (108019857)
Most of the staff were very very friendly and helpful. The first one I spoke to on the telephone and again met on reception was difficult to understand but we got by. The room and the view were great and the bed was extremely comfortable.
There are children in the spa and the spa water is so salty I was unable to wear my contact lenses out in the evening. My husband was very disappointed with the service and the food at breakfast. When he tried to complain the manageress was very defensive so he felt like he had not been heard. Even though breakfast was served until 11am and it was 10 - 10.30 am the staff were more interested in moving away the tables and chairs than looking after their customers. My husband was not the only one to complain as two other people had sent their breakfast back. When he asked a fork to eat with and sauce they did not arrive and he had to go and get them himself.

The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"Terrible value for money - we have stayed in a number of 5 star hotels round the world and this does not compare. Nothing special about it at all. Also - looks as though it could do with sprucing up." (97454987)
Good location and shuttle car service worked well
Not a five star hotel by any means. Lack of public areas, not enough room for people to take breakfast inside on Sunday morning. Not a huge problem for us but it became decidedly chilly as we completed our breakfast. Service not good.

The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"Thoroughly enjoyable. There was no need to have had previous knowledge before booking. The leisure centre was terrific, loved the water features - the pool, the spacious spa bath and the forceful jets of water from the high taps, very theraputic. We thought the price could have included breakfast - this was a bit excessive - and the car parking charge, but as we did know this before booking we cannot complain." (97702727)
Space, cleanliness, tasteful decor, terrace with lovely views over the water front. Well fitted out bathroom.

The room was clean, quiet and well equipped with nice views. Having arrived earlier than intended and before the published check in time, it was refreshing to find the room ready immediately.
Hotel car park though convenient, was inadequate in size and allocated on a first come basis. The over-night charge of £8 was unneccessary considering the hotel tariff. The spa and swimming pool complex was smaller than expected.

The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"THE LACK OF INFORMATION REGARDING THE TEA AND COFFEE FACILITIES WAS A BIT DISSAPOINTING, BUT APART FROM THAT AND THE TELEVISION OUR STAY AT YOUR HOTEL WAS FAULTLESS AND WE SHALL BE BACK SOON ARMED WITH A BIG FLASK AND A PLASMA T.V :)" (97824855)
THE DECOR WAS VERY TASTEFULLY DONE AND THE ROOM WAS VERY SPACIOUS,CLEAN AND INVITING. THE VIEW FROM THE BALCONY WAS FIRST CLASS.
THE LACK OF TEA AND COFFEE MAKING FACILITIES WAS QUITE A DISSAPOINTMENT, AS THERE WAS MORE THAN ADEQUATE SPACE FOR THE ABOVE FACILITY. THE SIZE OF THE TELEVISION WAS ALSO AN ISSUE( IT WAS DIFFICULT TO WATCH FROM THE COMFORT OF THE BED..

Excellent hotel, high standard of decor, loved the wet-room shower in the en-suite, great location, very friendly staff. Only a short visit so no time to take advantage of the spa facilities, will return for sure.
Requested a twin room but were given a double, although bed extra large so having to share bed with friend did not really matter too much

The room was of a good size and well laid out and furnished. The bed was extremely roomy and very comfortable. We had lovely views over the bay and Mermaid Quay from our room.
We found the shower cubicle with the fixed shower head a little claustrophobic and it would probably have benefited from having a folding glass door fitted rather than a curtain.

Stunning building and good location overlooking Mermaid Quay and the city with the mountains beyond. Ten minutes drive into city. Its worth knowing that you need to have a car to drive to local restaurants. Lovely swimming pool, sauna and whirlpool area with salt water bathing areas. Very relaxing." (97838638)

All extras, like car parking, room service etc very expensive.

The St David's Hotel & Spa, Cardiff - Reviews & Ratings"Very pleasant, polite and helpful staff. Mermaid Quay and Techniquest (for children) a short walk away. Nice setting down on the Bay. I would have liked the Hotel bar to be more like a Pub than a wine bar, maybe with draught beer and a pool table, but that is a very minor criticism. I suppose it would go against the Spa health ethos!" (97688063)
Room was clean, modern, spacious and I liked the balcony. Comfortable bed.
Nothing.

Spa facilities including bath robe and slippers and residents private lift. View from room- long window and balcony. Comfortable large bed. Bath. friendliness of reception staff and in particular the night staff both conceirge and reception desk. Greeting on arrival.
Very little. There was one issue where a member of the concierge had forgotten to book a late night taxi which could potentially have lead to me missing a connection, however the concierge staff on duty at night rapidly took control of the situation and sorted it out. I also was disappointed that in order to get tea and coffee making facilities in my room I had to order it each day. Overall very small issues.

"Generally good, room was smaller than anticipated for the £205 a night price tag. The self-service breakfast was appalling for the £18.50 cost, the tea was luke warm and the pot was filthy." (107290094)
Staff were excellent, most helpful and polite.
Breakfast was very poor for the money. Having had the room booked online for me I didn't expect to have to pay on arrival. Better communication between the booking site and those making business reservations needed.
