Very clean and well decorated accomodation. Newly renovated.Excellent food.

Rooms are all close to the entrance door so can be a little noisy. Room size a bit snug when adding a cot.

"Clearly, the accomodation part of the Bat & Ball is not being run with guests like my wife and I in mind. Pity - they were nice people and we understand from our friends that the breakfast was excellent." (97330790)

The dinner was excellent. We've had meals there before and their quality and atmosphere was the reason for our choice. The location was also attractive.

The bedrooms and bathrooms they gave us and friends, who booked with us, were very small and basic. Partitions between the rooms were very thin and we could hear even low level conversations in the adjoining room. Our stay was for a Friday night and we had to leave by 8 a.m. Saturday morning. Breakfast service only started 8.30 a.m. So we just had a tray with cereal and fruit left outside our door the night before. Also, whilst we had been advised someone would be available in the morning, so we could pay before leaving, noone was.

The restaurant was excellent although the portions were almost too generous! The staff were great. Directions to the hotel were good.

The entrance to the car park is extremely narrow and the car park itself is very small. It is not possible to turn round in it if it is full to go and park elsewhere. Street parking is also a problem as the road is narrow. Rooms not well sound-proofed.

"The character of the hotel was very pleasant, however, the use of the room closest to the bar as a family room is inappropriate." (99774097)

The food and restaurant/bar were excellent

The shower door was broken and the room was very noisy with both kitchen noises, voices from the bar and hearing people walking around next to the room until very late. This stopped the children from sleeping, which in turn delayed us going to sleep. The fact that the sinlge bed had a pull out was not obvious.

"We liked the B&B - it had plenty of character and the staff were very friendly, willing to do whatever they could to make our stay pleasant and comfortable. We would certainly go back and recomemnd it to anyone wanted a room for 1 or 2 nights. We used it to stay overnight after visiting a very well known local 'michelin-star' restaurant that is 2 or 3 miles from the Bat & Ball." (97932333)

The room was well appointed and tidy. It seemed a little small but considering the overall character/type building it was probably unlikely that other rooms were any larger. Just for 1 or 2 nights it was very comfortable.

We believe that the rooms had been decorated or refurbished recently - there were a couple of aspects unfinished; the shower base was just hardboard and the shower 'leaked' somewhere - the floor became wet. In actual fact the shower was a great size but the water pressure was only adequate.

"I liked the place because it was quirky and the locals interesting. But I couldn't recommend it to anyone because the information for guests was poor (we didn't notice a sign for the reception etc), the breakfast arrangements lacking and the room generally 'cut corners' with no way of knowing who to ask for things like towels. It seems this is a pub seeking to offer rooms and it isn't geared up for guests ... yet. If they get the general stuff right it would be great. All that said, I intend to stay again!!" (97009800)

The evening staff were friendly and the place was pleasingly quirky!

The morning staff were grumpy, we didn't get the tea we asked for and there was a general lack of signs/information about general arrangments. There was only one small towel in the bathroom and no toiletries.

However, it would be improved if service at breakfast was a litle less of the Fawlty Towers and if the breakfast itself was cooked properly and subject to some flexibility of its make-up (cooked breakfast - yes or no - is hardly the cutting edge of customer service)." "We stayed for two nights and ate at a nearby Michelin starred restaurant on the first night. We ate in the hotel on the second night and had a very adequate meal which was typical Pub Fare - well cooked and hearty. The village is in a maze of narrow lanes which doesn't make for easy driving. But it's only 10 miles from Oxford so it's a good base to explore that fine city." (99682441)

This is a genuinely themed Inn/Hotel. It has an antique collection of cricketing memorabilia which, to the cricket lover, is a fascinating mini museum.

We stayed in The Croucher room which is next to an hotel storeroom. It gets noisy when Hotel Staff come to collect or deliver goods from the store.

The towels were very good and were changed for our second night. The dinners were excellent and the dining room pleasant, breakfast was ok, but not up to the standard of the dinners. The staff were friendly attentive and professional." (3304303680)

It was very clean and well provided with everything we could want, the bed was comfortable. Overall the room exceeded our expectations and we would certainly plan to stay again. The staff were freindly and helpful.

two very small points; there was nowhere to put the soap or shower gel in the shower cabinet, and a door somewhere outside the room banged loudly when used, this was not a real problem for us, but could be if it was used late at night.

"No real problems or reason to be unhappy. This is a fair place to stay for a short stay/single traveller - linked to a reasonable pub, and with a reasonable restaurant - in a nice rural location - but my room was very small and the bathroom in particular felt cramped. I do remember having to invite the barman to give me my change as he was busy talking to regulars rather than attending to me but this may be just a small mistake." (3304918526)

Good atmosphere as it is part of a pub. Interesting place with cricket theme throughout, including the names of the rooms instead of numbers on the doors. Lots of cricket equipment on display around the building. Pleasant small village location.

Very small room, with window opening directly onto a public road/pavement at eye level

The menu available was varied and exciting, with very generous portions of expertly cooked food. The drinks, however, were quite expensive. "I booked a small double room thinking it would be of a reasonable size, but this room (May) is really only a single, with a narrow double bed in it. The wardrobe is a single, not double. I sleep on the left hand side of the bed and had to climb out over my wife in the middle of the night to go to the loo. There is no space at the left hand side and none at the bottom" (3304511515)

Staff were friendly and bearfast was good

The room was vert small, a single rather than double, and did not feel clean. The kettle is on the window sill which looks out onto the main street, and you have to climb over the bed to get to it, make the drink then climb back with drink in hand. A health and Saftey issue I would have said. The bthromm is so small its not big enough even og one. The shower drips all the time onto the bathroom floor. There is no latch on the door and no lock.
