Mercure Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, Heywood - Reviews & Ratings"Hotel was dominated by a party or reception - other guests felt squeezed out, and disturbance throughout the night. To cap it all, no hot water in the morning." (108738685)
Nice grounds, nice rooms, good food.
Noisy fellow guests from an event. Fire alarm went off twice in the night. No hot water. Overcharged by £25 - they took it off when queried. Not apologetic enough for all this.

Mercure Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, Heywood - Reviews & Ratings"The restaurant and bar choices need to be reviewed. The general management needs retraining and/or replacing. " (107998054)
No wine list; no English Bitter; food not as described on menu and over one hour waiting for first course; reception staff sullen and disinterested. Extremely poor value at very expensive price. Alarm call one hour early

Nice leisure facilities (although did not use them this time) Very pleasant staff in the main Simple things were done well - e.g. clean and alarm calls made when asked for
Food was very mixed. Great main course at dinner but poor dessert. Breakfast not really good enough - full English was pretty average. Room service was expensive although I did know this before booking it.

Mercure Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, Heywood - Reviews & Ratings"Overall our stay was poor. Our stay was a rare escape from the children as it was Valentines night and so we had expected much higher standards considering the Norton Grange is a 4* Hotel. We have stayed at many hotels and found this one the lowest standard, we have tayed at better travel inn's to be honest." (107500635)
Staff were very freindly and well presented. Entrance and lobby were well maintained.
The lift was out of order which is not preferable considering we wee on the 3rd level. Our room was poor with draughty windows with mouldy/dirty sealant around them. The sink was cracked. There was no hairdryer until i pointed it out, we then waited an hour for one which when it arrived kept over heating after 30 seconds of use. The breakfast was poor with items missing from what we ordered. The egg was like rubber and the sausage very undercooked. we got a tomato and a there was a tiny blob of bean juice on the plate - neither of which we had requested. Our F Full breakfast consisted of a rasher of bacon, one undercooked sausage and a rubber fried egg. the toast an orange juice were the only real enjoyable items.

Easy booking process, prompt telephone answering, welcoming & professional reception staff, stylish room decor, quality of bathroom.
Scruffy/dated public areas, inexperienced bar staff, breakfast tables in restaurant not clean (also butter pats greasy & melted), bedroom windowsill dirty.

Mercure Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, Heywood - Reviews & Ratings"Head receptionist very good, although other staff automatically added breakfast charges, despite us only booking on a room only basis. Had to have several arguments about this, until Liz, sorted it out. Health centre very good, and worth the visit. Rooms good and clean, breakfast staff very polite, and good quality food." (97962217)
Good rooms, excellent health spa.
Weddings meant rooms were very noisy, even though we were on the third floor.

the room was comfortable, and well equiped
the room was above one of the function suites and the music was far to loud and what was particularly annoying was the fact that the bloody bedroom window would not close properly

Mercure Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, Heywood - Reviews & Ratings"Staff were pleasant and accomodating and acted quickly to any request. The food though at breakfast was almost inedible. Kippers had to be sent back as under cooked, scrambled egg was dry and over cooked, and tomatoes hardly glanced at the grill. Hotel manager should check the notices in the lifts - still advertising 2006 Xmas and events. Generally the hotel was comfortable and well furnished following the refurbishment. Also enjoyed the fact that it is a non smoking establishment, although why a cigarette machine in the bar? Spa facilities and treatments were very good." (99145471)
Bedroom was well furnished and to a good standard and style. Excellent bathroom. I would have expected a bar in the room though.
The room was cold. Heating was far from adequate. Radiator kept switching off

My bedroom window was broken- it wouldn't open but it was fixed quite promptly. I am a smoker so I do like to know in advance if a smoking room will be available. This hotel is non smoking totally from Good Friday- this is good info for non smokers." (3304497159)

Modern and upto date facility
Directions to hotel well hard to follow. Post code does not relate to road you need to be on for access, takes you down a blocked off road. When having a shower the water fluctuated frequently between scolding hot and freezing cold

Mercure Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, Heywood - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel was clean, tidy and the staff efficient and polite. The food was good but I must draw a comparison to other hotels in the Manchester area where the prices are significntly lower and the food quality at least comparable. Online booking was quick and efficient and although short it was a pleasant stay" (3304200793)
Room and hotel were generally clean and staff polite and efficient
Resturant prices were not reflected in the food quality

Mercure Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, Heywood - Reviews & Ratings"This hotel is set in lovely grounds and offers well decorated, clean rooms and a beautiful spa and pool. Although close to a faily major road, the rooms are well insulatad against noise and we enjoyed a quiet night. For a 4* hotel I feel the communal areas need a bit of tidying up..the decor is looking a little shabby. Breakfast was disappointing as the service was very slow and the staff rather surly and the portion sizes for cooked breakfast were extremely small. We couldn't get into the restaurant at all because of a function. The hotel did telephone and advise us of this a few days before our arrival which was courteous but still left us having to drive a few miles into Rochdale for the neareast decent restaurant." (2954604)
Very well presented rooms. Exceptionally clean. Spa and leisure area beautifully maintained and decorated.
Too few staff for breakfast meant long delays and breakfast was on the small side. Reception staff were busy chatting to each other rahter than attanding to guests.

The only compliant we have is the mannor of one of the receptionists she was very blunt and quite arrogant. We were not the only couple to notice this, several others had too. I did not catch her name unfortunately. Perhaps a little staff training on this area would not go a miss.

Mercure Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, Heywood - Reviews & Ratings"I would have liked to have known about the thermal spa as this is quite unusual and definitley a highlight of the hotel." (2702625)
The new leisure facilities were fantastic. The bed was very comfotable.
The lighting in the leisure complex was very bright. It would add to the overall relaxing experience if it was dimmed. When I ordered a vodka and tonic at the bar, there was no ice which meant that I resented paying £4.50 for a V&T which was deeply unpleasant to drink. The girl at the bar promised to get some more ice, but never actually did. The actual bar area was a little outdated as well I thought.

Mercure Norton Grange Hotel and Spa, Heywood - Reviews & Ratings"Very friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice and again friendly service. Only complaint was the shower was difficult to regulate. It came out in a jet and you had to go under the jet to try and adjust the temperature. Freeze or Scald !! Also if just looking to have a quick wash of the hair to go out for the evening the shower was static i.e. you have to have a shower also. I was surprised at there being only only one hand and one bath towel provided for the room. I am aware we could have asked for extra but assumed as we were staying two nights they would realise it was double occupancy and provide two of each at least on the second day. We had booked the room in advance for double occupancy. Overall we had an enjoyable stay and should we be in Rochdale again on business would choose this hotel." (1799078)
Nice comfy bed with a good quality firm matress. Good Steam Iron and Ironing board.
Shower hard to regulate. Only one bath & one hand towel for double room.
