    "Disappointed" (107843742)

Room was on the Second Floor; private quarters are on the first floor, the stairs were steep with two flights and turns. No lift! Did not suit my husband who uses a stick. Unable to carry personal things up the stairs and use his stick at same time and so he limited the going up & down the stairs to the absolute minimum. Proprietor did carry the luggage up because of this difficulty.

"We found the accomodation at the Highlands to be clean and tidy and the facilties good for our short visit. It is not a Huge Hotel, but the staff were very friendly and we even had a sea view. There was a choice for breakfast, we plumped for the Full English and it was lovely. Overall we enjoyed our short stay there and would go back again" (97112905)

    clean and tidy and friendly

"The room was up two floors, no lift, with heavy bags this would have been cumbersome. The window was a nuisance, and inconvenient. There was also something outside the window that was whipping about and causing an extra thump. So sleep was intermittant. Admittedly there was a strong wind howling that night. I think I would recommend, with reservations." (97151702)

Staff friendly and relaxed. Breakfast very good. Roomclean, pretty. Electric heater worked very well.

Beds damp initially, and mattresses a bit old. Window rattled all night (strong wind). No where in bathroom to put wash-bags, tooth brushes etc.

"the architecture of the building was full of character but guests could usefully be warned of the steep climb (46 steps)to the second floor" (99738154)

    friendliness of staff

clumsy bathroom conversions; smoke from bar permeated building; breakfast was generous and tasty but we felt the cooking was rather greasy

"We made the most of our stay and the adequate facilities in our room. There was no bath and the shower could not be regulated properly. The staff were very welcoming and helpful, flexible about the timing of breakfast ( which was excellent) and very courteous. We found the stairs a little difficult as we were on the second floor and there was a steep a spiral staircase. It was rather expensive for the facilities offered." (97075785)

    Lovely breakfast

Shower was unable to be regulated properly so we couldn't use it. Television only had three channels.

"I would most definately go back and stay at the Highland Inn, I was a bit anxious after reading some of the reviews about the hotel on the internet, but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised when I got there, I do not know where half of the people actually stayed as there comments did not seem to bear any resemblance to where I had satyed. The staff were all very friendly and could not do enough for me, the breakfast was a full English and I have to say that I have travelled around quite a bit and stayed in quite a few hotels, and B & B's and the breakfast at the highland Inn was the best that I have had. I would most go back and stay again. The location was nice and quiet." (99996489)

I was very happy with the accomodation

Nothing negative to say about the accomodaiton

Staying in a four poster bed.The hotel was in quiet area of St Leonards which was nice as Hastings was really crowded due to the hot weather.Staff were really friendly and the breakfast was excellent. Cooked from fresh.

There is a stiff hill that takes you dwon to the seafront. OK for going down but coming up at the end of the could be tiring for the elderly. No lift, so a fair climb on the stairs to your room.

"Ideal situation near bus stop and town facilities. Good parking and a quiet area" (99716348)

a nice comforrtable hotel, with a friendly hostess who did everything possible to care for us especially breakfasts.

There was a smoky atmosphere on entering the premises which pervade the entrance hall and stairs

everyone very friendly and helpful, food very good, place very clean

the two single beds were small childrens ones(not long enough), spings through mattresses, was not suitable for adults never mind 16 plus ones, shower space was no good if above a size 14.

"To be the honest we thought it was quite expensive considering the quality of the room (especially the bathroom which was unheated and didn't have a bath - not good when you book a family room as small children tend to prefer baths). The front door was locked when we arrived and it took 10 minutes of door bell ringing until someone answered! However, we did have a lovely evening meal cooked on the premises." (99499026)

Very friendly staff, helpful and accommodating.

Dreary, dated room that smelt of cigarette smoke - don't use this hotel if you are an anti-smoker.

"The hotel no longer has a restaurant, but dos supply good quality bar food. It is an old hotel with no lift, in need of some redecoration and maybe a little modernisation. Within easy distance of town centre but the friendly staff made the stay one to remember. We would stay here again if we needed to be in the area." (99742976)

The staff were very helpful and could not do enough for you.

The hotel could do with updating and decorating bedrooms and bathrooms.

Underinvested hotel, everything was old and needed to be refurbished. Bed didn't feel clean, shower was poor. The whole hotel smelled smoky, it felt dirty.
