Old Wisteria Hotel, Oakham, Rutland - Reviews & Ratings"An enjoyable break." (107108821)
In room; plenty of storage space, well stocked tea coffee drinks making facilities and fresh fruit a nice touch. Full English breakfast was excellent, tasty and well cooked. Tea, coffee and toast brought out quickly and efficiently. Staff always friendly and polite.
In order: Restraunt not available in the evenings during our stay. Drinks shelf in room small and awkward. TV poor, few channels and no teletext.

Old Wisteria Hotel, Oakham, Rutland - Reviews & Ratings"Wouldn't stay at this hotel again as not very good value for money, but the young girl (who seemed to be the only member of staff, as she checked me in and out, served me at the bar and took my order for dinner, and served breakfast to me both days) was very friendly and efficient." (108021764)
close to town centre, clean room, good hospitality tray and comfortable bed. Quite a good breakfast - poached eggs cooked well both days.
hotel and room were both quite twee - with the bedroom being tatty with ripped wallpaper and worn carpet. Dinner was overpriced, undersized and not very appetizing.

Old Wisteria Hotel, Oakham, Rutland - Reviews & Ratings"Enjoyed it and would stay there again, thought it was very good value for money overall, and in a lovely spot." (97488498)
I was very comfortable at the Old Wisteria Hotel for my one night stay, and was made to feel welcome by the staff.
The carpets in the stair areas are very worn and give a poor impression - I was surprised by this as everything else was fine. As there is no lift in the hotel, would have welcomed the offer of a hang with my case up to the bedroom, but this is not a major point.

Old Wisteria Hotel, Oakham, Rutland - Reviews & Ratings"Comfortable and convenient with very nice hardworking staff, but could do with a few improvements - see above." (108022820)
Pleasant helpful staff. Very nicely cooked fresh breakfast( poached eggs very good ).New bathroom in my room and all accessories.
Short on staff - 3 separate bookings waiting to check in, receptionist serving in bar. Parking poor, visitors could be given voucher for public car park next to hotel. Hotel clean but rather shabby.Could do with help upstairs with luggage.

Location ,fine and convenient
The hotel room seems dated and in need of redecoration . To clarify on web site when booking ,what is included in wine and dine offer ,I did not realise only 2 courses and one glass of wine ,I would not have booked on that basis ,disappointing no tea coffee included in the meal.

Old Wisteria Hotel, Oakham, Rutland - Reviews & Ratings"I can't find anything negative to say about this hotel. The staff were helpful and attentive and the room was more than adequate for our needs. The hotel was just right for us as we were only staying for a couple of nights and the location, near the centre of the village, made it ideal. It was also close to other towns and villages of interest to us. The breakfasts were lovely, although we did not sample their restaurant, the choice was good. Overall a very nice experience." (97061981)
Close to village centre but quiet and comfortable.
Parking a little cramped but hotel hosting a conference at the time.

Excellent overall weekend beak
Weekend was dinner bed breakfast plus wine - it was not very clear what the dinner consisted of neither whether it was a bottle or a glass of wine.

Old Wisteria Hotel, Oakham, Rutland - Reviews & Ratings"All the information as advertised was correct. Excellent breakfast meal with a good choice, and a well presented evening meal which was requested at late notice. A hotel well situated for Rutland Water which was the purpose of our visit. There were no unanswered questions either before or during our stay." (97269056)
The hotel was very easy to find thanks to the excellent directions attached to the booking. The room was a proper 'double' room as stated on the web page. Well maintained and comfortable.
No adverse comments.

Old Wisteria Hotel, Oakham, Rutland - Reviews & Ratings"We were very pleasantly surprised by the hotel. The rooms are very spacious, very clean with good attention to detail - plenty of wardrobe and drawer space (not that we needed it for a weekend stay). Our room was also very quiet. We elected to take the Wine & Dine option which we thought was exceedingly good value and the food was delicious and, despite one other reviewer's comments, we thought the bar and restaurant were both charming and full of character. The breakfast was equally pleasing - the food tasted very fresh and very hot so often the downfall of many hotels and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff we met. The hotel is very well situated being at the end of a quiet high street, next to the museum and 5 minutes drive to Rutland Water. I would not hesitate to return and have already recommended it to several friends." (99096089)
Good size room. Excellent food. Spotlessly clean. Good attention to detail.
The bathrooms could do with a little modernisation but perfectly functional and loved the huge vanity area - a space for lotions & potions so often missing in hotels today! There was nothing else to dislike!

I found the rooms to be drab and unwelcoming, the bathrom felt grubby, the shower was tempremental fro hot and cold water. for such an expense for one night I expected something more pleaseant."
