The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"Ely is a beautiful place to visit, but I would never stay ot recommend the hotel. The price was far to high for the accomodation and I definetly think the AA stars should be reassessed because one of the reasons I booked was because of them. I just wonder how long ago they were presented and how often the standard is checked?" (107355760)
One of the female staff members was very helpful and the breakfast was cooked well.
My room was beside the mens toilets and I could hear everything! A bench was placed outside my bedroom window for smokers and being on the ground floor with no nets or blinds they could look in at me, which meant either no privacy or keeping the curtains drawn at all times. (Plus I am a non-smoker) The coffee, etc were not replaced on the 2nd day and I had find someone who did offer me an already half used sachet of hot chocolate. During breakfast we were hovered over to finish and plates removed very quickly. It was embarrasing and uncomfortable. The room was not as described; it was very old fashioned and unkempt.

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"Very nice, apart from the Bar closing early" (108546328)
Nice and quiet. Handy having a Golf Course next door.
The Bar closed at 20:30 hrs, and as we had not stayed here before, had no idea where any other bar's were in the area. Went and watched TV in our room

Clean, comfortable room. Lovely grounds. Walking distance to town centre and riverside walk.
Unable to use restaurant on first night as closed for a special event.

Friendliness of staff. Good food. Nice dining room.
Short shower curtain - wet floor in bathroom. Shower took long time to heat up. Noise from upstairs rooms. Would have preferred upstairs rather than ground floor room.

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"Had it not been for the wedding being held at the hotel on the Saturday it would have been a perfect place to stay for the weekend. Easy walking distance of shops, pubs and places of interest.I would advise people to check before they book that there is not going to be a special event at the hotel." (99094477)
I rang in advance to organise surprise birthday balloons, they were lovely.Room and bed was comfortable, bed linen clean. We appreciated the tea coffee and water which was provided and regularly topped up. We had a lovely veiw of the garden. The breakfast was very good. We only had one evening meal at the hotel and it was very good.
There was a wedding on the Saturday being catered for by the hotel and there was not a seperate bar we could go into, because of the wedding the hotelier told us he would not be able to provide a meal the evening of the wedding, therefore we felt we had to go out. The Hotel is not very sound proof so we were disturbed by noise of other guests - banging doors, talking loudly and of course the music from the wedding went on until midnight.

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"This hotel is potentially excellent. However on this visit there was no map of Ely available, no information re local attractions, and no information re possible alternative evening meal providers. The hotel offered food but priced for two courses or three courses, not for one course only. Information re breakfast proceedure was lacking, and some tables were set for dinner wrongfooting guests who sat there. Our room was not ready when we checked in shortly after the stated checkin commencement time. It should not be difficult to solve these lapses, thereafter the hotel would be rated excellent." Nice accommodation. Easy parking
Dearth of information

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"Close proximity to Ely Cathedral, which can be seen from the hotel. Beautiful garden, well maintained. Very close to a golf course, so if you play, you will be entitled to reduce green fees. The staff were very helpful and friendly, especially the very hard-working manager. We enjoyed two evening meals which we felt were good value for money." (99099701)
Comfortable rooms.
No problems or dislikes at all.

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"The manager/ Host was very obliging and cooked us a very nice meal. It all seemed as though the hotel was not really ready for guests, as there was empty treasels set up in the dining room, and there could have been just a little effort made to make us feel welcome rather than the fact that the manager tried to give us limited choices." (99859985)
We booked this accommodation because we liked the fact that it was away from the main part of the town, and that it was quiet. It was.
The rooms were cold, The hallway and staircase was badly lit, and the rooms needed updating, and were generally small and tatty.

The position of the hotel in relation to the city centre
The hotel was very tatty with cracks appearing in walls. The room was very shabby, the shower was cold on the last morning of our stay

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"Our second visit so we were sure what to expect. On arrival no sign of proprietor/staff but we were expected, the front door was open and the log fire blazing. Some might say a bit too informal but we loved it. Very nice, clean and comfortable rooms. Airy restaurant, though we didn't eat there. Lovely parkland setting. A bit let down by a cold and uninviting bar (though the excellent Prince Albert by the cathedral is a must-visit for a good pint). A friendly, helpful proprietor whom it was a pleasure to meet again." (99259374)
Friendly, informal, no fussing or frills.
Bar needs livening up - how about (for example) some real ale and encouragement of local trade?

The friendly staff
My TV had very poor reception. This did not bother me, and I didn't get around to reporting it as i had a very short stay, but i would have expected it to have worked without me having to do anything about it.

I have stopped in many major brand hotels in the last year but this hotel puts Hilton/Holiday Inn/Premier back where they belong. If in the area I would not consider anywhere else. Simple very clean and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff, who were pleasant and knowledgable about the surroundings.

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"When we were at the hotel the manager/proprietor appeared to be the sole staff member. He did the cooking, attended to reception, waited on tables and served in the bar. There was one additional helper at breakfast, but principally, he was the mainstay of the hotel. We would have a concern at the level of service during the high season if this was the norm." (3305225016)

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"generally the hotel was fair however there were a few points that need to be addressed. The cleanliness left something to be desired. The same leafs that were on the staircase when we arrived were still there when we left 2 days later, clearly they had not been shown a Hoover! The food however was excellant but as already stated there was a sad lack of staff. One foreign waitress on Saturday evening was not enough. At the moment whilst I may bed prepared to stay again I cannot recommend it to others." (3305303380)
The hotels position & garden
The management was disorganised, the owner was doing everything- chef, receptionist, waiter.

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"It was disconcerting to arrive back at 7pm to be told we were lucky to find someone at reception. We should not have handed in our key but taken it with us but no one had told us this. Had we been later we would have been locked out with no one in charge on the premises." (3305415850)
It's position for getting to the venue in Ely, The Maltings.
No one seemed to be in charge. Although it was written that dinner was from 7pm we were required to order what we wanted when we arrived at 3pm but couldn't have our meal until 7.45. When we went into the dinning room we were the only people there.

The Nyton, Ely - Reviews & Ratings"The setting of the hotel was excellent but the hotel itself felt rather rundown and we could not work out who was meant to be in charge. The greeting by the receptionist was poor. We feel that if this hotel is to keep its rating of 3 diamonds etc it definatley needs some upgrading in the bedrooms especially. The general cleaning of our room was not good - dust on surfaces, hair in the bathroom and poor general decor especially in the bathroom." (3305224332)
the location, the peaceful location
the bedrooms need updating. not very clean. difficult to find staff

Proprietor as very helpfull and accomodating
In the Proprietor's abscence the staff were not as knowledgeable or helpful. also my room window was left wide open thus running the risk of burglars entering. I asked for an earlier breakfast but the message did not get through till after i had left later

Well placed for town centre. Staff very friendly and accomodating. Food reasonable. Room was OK. Not 'posh' but comfotrable.
None really, though perhaps rooms by gents downstairs loos are not well placed.
