Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"Thoroughly enjoyed it and will definately stay here again rather than at the Banbury House Hotel which we usually stay at. The room rate we had was a special offer and was excellent value for money." (107940835)
The staff were very friendly and welcoming and made a real fuss of us. They were very efficient and couldn't have done more for us. The hotel is clean and tidy.
They charged my card twice for the room.

Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"The location of the hotel and friendliness of the receptionist would make me recommend the hotel. I may stay again.." (107818301)
Very friendly receptionist.
the car park was full and no parking available close by. The shower curtain was mouldy. Food ordered via room service took 35 mins ( advised 15 mins ) and was luke warm. At breakfast one of the waiters was cleaning tables by just using his hand to sweep the crumbs on the floor, he also dropped butter and just left it, was sweating profusely and didn't smell very fresh !

Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"The reception / lounge area has been updated since my last stay which was pleasing to see. Both the lounge and bar areas had a warming open fire which was good to see. The breakfast was splendid with a good variety of fruit, juices, cooked breakfast and sweetmeats." (97611343)
Even though the room was in the modern wing it was well presented with a pleasant view over the gardens

Location.
Very tired bedrooms in need of updating. Our room was directly over a wedding disco which went on until 12.15am. Waited 20 mins for anyone to make an appearance to serve at the bar (10.15pm) despite requests to reception staff.

Room size Breakfast
Lack of hot water and length of time it took to find us a room with hot water on the Sunday morning. It made us late to meet our friends.

Badly maintained old TV. Channels not as advertised. Given furthest room from reception in entire hotel, despite booking very early.

Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"A very enjoyable stay in a lovely hotel. We had a fabulous package which was great value for money inc overnight stay in double ensuite room, full english breakfast (minus black pudding)!!, 2 free sunday papers and a three course sunday lunch, all for under a £100 for 2. Our room was cosy and nicely decorated and very comfortable. Oh just one other thing, the toilet flush was a bit hit and miss but we'll forgive that as we had a great weekend and would definitely go back." (97876833)
The hotel was full of character and very well placed for all we wanted to do in Banbury
No black pudding or beans on the breakfast, even though they should've been!

Comfortable bed, nice room, very pleasant lounge/bar areas (real fires),good breakfasts.
Maids entered our room early despite our 'relaxing' notice on outside of door. (We were told that the notice was facing the wrong way, but that is no excuse!)

Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"Approaching The Whately was very impressive as it definitely looks imposing, once parked it took us a while to meander round and find reception, as the Whately is going through a re-furb. Once reception was located had a few probs checking in as my details hadn't been typed correctly in the database, which did make me panic and think our booking may not of existed. Finding our boudoir on the second floor was also a little mystifying as we did have to go up 3 flights of stairs. The room overall was comfortable and larger than I imagined. I did think the room was in need of a makeover perhaps slightly outdated but it was clean. I found the way the beds were made up it was impossible to move during the night. Tried several times to try and pull the duvet but it was so tightly wrapped, it didn't budge. Pillows were a little thin." (97368440)
Location was excellent, and the hotel had adequate parking facilities
The hotel seemed quite disjointed, due to the re-furb it was hard to find the main reception, also as we came back late in the night we found the door locked and resorted to tapping on the window to get someones attention. Once inside we had to pass through several rooms and even back outside in the garden to go to another part of the hotel. No where on the website did it state the hotel was going through a re-furb.

Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"When booking in we looked at a standard room on the ground floor and dismissed it as it was small, dark and smelled. Disappointing. Our room on the top floor in the modern part of the hotel was spacious, light and airy. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty of choice, and the staff very attentive and charming. Lunch was a let-down. Small portions, luke-warm food, weak coffee. Both receptionists were very helpful, but rushed when there were several people waiting to check out, and noone else there to help them. Lovely old building, an easy walk to explore the town.I would come to stay again, but choose to upgrade." (97800356)
Spacious room - worth paying extra money for. Large and comfortable bed. Quiet position.
The hot water took a very long time to come through in the shower. My husband would have liked to watch the television from the bed.

Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"In general, a very pleasent hotel, great breakfast, nice staff and great location. Apart from the minor issues mentioned above, no complaints." (97397816)
lovely building with decor in keeping with it's character. nice gardens and well appointed room.
Our room was near a generator outside and had the view of a very large flat roof. Not the loveiest sound or view. Not enough to really disturb though. However, our room was positioneed next door to the chamber maid's station who started chatting very loudly at 7am. The age of the building makes for poor accoustics so better positioning of this station and more consideration towards paying guests would have been appreciated.

Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel was full of character. The lobby was charming with quiet sitting areas to sit and enjoy tea or a snack. If we were to go back to Banbury we would book a room at this hotel again." (99734363)
The rooms were clean and roomy. We had a room facing front and it was nice to open the windows and watch the activities outside. It was a nice walk to many stores and restaurants from the hotel.
The refrigerator in our room did not work which was a minor problem. At 3:00 a.m. I woke up because there were people outside yelling and being generally loud. This went on for some time. I heard from locals it was a typical Saturday night there.

The accommodation was spacious with views of Banbury Cross and the church. The room had modern facilities and still retained an historic character. Well presented and good quality breakfast.
The carpet and some of the chairs in the reception and bar areas were looking faded.

A wonderful oak-beamed old-fashioned room in a beautiful Cotswold Stone builing with a fantastic view of the unique church opposite and nearby Banbury Cross.
I like real fresh air and there was some traffic noise if the window was open but if you want a great view of the most attractive part of a busy market town like Banbury, well you can't expect to have it both ways.

Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"This pleasant hotel was worth it's 3 stars because although the standard double room was small and ordinary, it was clean and functional. The lounge and restaurant, however, were far superior to many establishments of greater repute. The menu, although limited, provide us with meals of outstanding quality. The service was just right - professional yet freindly - attentive yet not over-bearing. We will use the MacDonald's chain again, but next time with an up-graded room, perhaps!" (3305259054)
Clean Room - Central Location - Excellent restaurant
Room too small - no view - no leisure facilities -

Mercure Whately Hall Banbury, Banbury - Reviews & Ratings"Overall a very nice stay, the food was excellent and plentifull and the hotel has a lot of character. We only really needed bed & breakfast and I am glad we had a side room as the main street seemed very noisy some nights. The proximity to a local park was ideal for dog walking. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The entry to the car park was not for the feint hearted - a bit tight !" (2867026)
The fact that we could take our dog was the major factor in our booking this hotel and the proximity to where we were going in the area
The undercover parking was a bit tight and we noticed those there early with large vehicles (4x4's) parked over 2 spaces
