Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"Felt that the hotel was really for older guests than us. We had to park on the street as there was no space in the car park. Felt that dinner was expensive. Also confusing to have room names not numbers." (97631836)
Bar was quite nice and with good views over the bay.
Really suitable for older guests

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"The Shower was the worst shower we had ever had with no power and went hot and cold, therefore I never bothered with another one in the morning! The breakfast was loving the surroundings and view were nice too! We would definitely stay again but only if the shower is better!" (97077010)
It was clean and up to date and the staff were friendly. It was made even better by realising it was the original Fawlty Towers Hotel.
On arrival we booked in but it would have been nice to have been told about breakfast times, how to get to our room and where the facilities were. The Shower was the worst shower we had ever had with no power and went hot and cold, therefore I never bothered with another one in the morning!

Nice location. Lovely restaurant and bar area with great views. Internet facility free of charge, a great bonus!
Stopped serving in restaurant earlier than stated. Bar food limited only to sandwiches, poor ones. Bar staff very abrupt.

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"the hotel was a little bit tucked away with very limited parking and the reception area a little on the small side. the main hall area was very eye catching and the resturant/lounge and bar was very well laid out but a missing chandlier spoiled the effect. the staff were very polite and eager to please and nothing was too much trouble. the one downside to the stay was the room it's self, it was a little tired and starting to showing it's age" (99818497)
the staff, the view from the room, the food
the room fell a little below standard

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"I was very pleased with this hotel and the bedroom I was given. It was clean, warm and comfortable and it was nice to be able to book the room, as apposed to per person, as double rooms - I have discovered - are usually better sited than singles. The staff were very helpful and courteous and the delicious breakfast was cooked to order. I should be very happy to stay here on a business or leisure break and I will be happy to recommend it to others." (99183261)
The bed was very comfortable, the room spacious and the furnishings clean and of good quality. The en-suite was spotless and also of a good size -it was nice to have a folding shower screen over the bath, rather than a shower curtain.
Some guests in nearby bedrooms were very noisy when returning to their rooms and obviously felt that letting doors slam at 1.30am was acceptable - this seems to be quite a common problem with hotels and not something I encounter as much in B&Bs. I realise that no hotel can eliminate this, except by perhaps modifying the doors (and selecting quiet guests!), but it can lead to a very disturbed night's sleep.

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"The staff were very helpful and cheerful. I have been to Torquay many times and I wish I had known about Gleneagles before. I have already recommended the hotel to my friends and business associates. I have stayed in many hotels all over the UK and rate the Gleneagles one of the best for its rating. Keep up the good work." (99233664)
Easy to find, pleasant surroundings, general appearance of hotel inside and out was good.

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel and where it is situated is very good. The common areas have recently been refurbished so are excellent and I think the rest of the hotel is being worked on piece meal so eventually I'm sure it will be one of the best hotels in Torquay. I do feel though that the staff could be a little more informative." (99164108)
large room with lovely views and facilities v good
the constant squeak from the floorboards of the passage along the upper floor of the hotel. the rest of the hotel excellent

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"The reception was good and the room was ready ahead of time, the evening meal that we ate in the hotel's restaurant was excellent and the services was good and the room was extremely comfortable. Saturday breakfast was well organised and the food was good Saturday evening was disappointing, we had not pre-paid for dinner as the advertisment had said resturant but when we came to book a table we were told that the restaurant was closed that evening as the hotel had a large function on and that we would have to eat at 6.30 in the conservatory, also the bar and lounge were taken over by the function so that we either had to sit with a very large group of noisy people or stay in our room. We should have been told at the time of booking and if not then at the time of arrival about this function as we would most definitely not have stayed at the hotel but booked an alternative. That said the hotel was very comfortable and the service good." (99241690)
The room was extremely comfortable with a king sized bed, a sea view with balcony
The accommodation had no real faults

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"Hotel has been modernised downstairs facilites there are good but the hotel was very quiet in the evenings when we stayed. Upstairs is clean , sea views are spectacular, bathroom was well appointed, some modernisation of the decor would be a benefit." (3305061498)

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"I would like to have known that they based Fawlty Towers on this hotel and that it hasn't changed. On the whole the staff were very nice but the hotel rooms are in desperate need of a facelift." (3305101727)
The bar and restaurant area had recently been refurbished and was very nice.
I booked 3 rooms. 1 single for my disabled mum which was adequate but the lift was out of order so we had to try and get her up the stairs!. My daughters shared a twin room which was dirty and tired. The sliding bathroom door wouldn't shut and the bath as too dirty to use. My husband and I shared a double room where the curtains didn't meet and the bed was very old and uncomfortable.

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"The hotels external appearance is very off putting but inside it was lovely, clean and modern. The staff were lovely and very friendly and helpfull. Dissappointed with the lack of comfort around the pool, could do with an uplift. The jacuzzi was not in use and looked as if it needed building. Very dissappointed with the patio outside our room. We planned on sitting in the evenings on the patio, instead it was a lump of concrete with a fence as our view and next to the staff store cupboard." (3304957534)
Clean rooms, lovely lounge and eating areas
The patio advertised was a lump of concrete next to staff cleaning/store cupboard- not an area to relax in. Pool nice but attention to detail poor - no jacuzzi as advertised

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"The hotel's dining room and lounge were very comfortable, clean and attractive. The service was excellent. Breakfast was good, but dinner was marred by food that was uninspired and tasteless." (3304780075)
Very comfortable and clean hotel, friendly and helpful staff
This part of Torquay is very hilly and it was a longer and more tiring walk to the sea than I had anticipated.

Hotel Gleneagles, Torquay - Reviews & Ratings"an excellent hotel, walm and welcoming with fantastic views." (3305159714)
The view from the bedroom was outstanding and the hotel has been recently decorated in a classic yet modern style. I could imagine going into a bar like this one in London for a night out but also, the relaxing lounge area was very calming.
the room was slightly too small but the view made up for it. maybe the balcony needs some maintenance attention.

"A good quality hotel, good food, friendly staff, excellent stylish & modern communal areas e.g reception, dining room etc. There is a connection with John Cleese - but very little connection to Faulty Towers ! The modern Hotel is in a quiet street a good 30mins walk down to the town marina, but just a short 10mins woodlands walk down to an idyllic cove. There is a small car-park in front of the hotel. The sea-view room had a lovely view of the cove, but did not match the high standard of the communal areas and was in need of updating. There was a pleasant balcony but this was in some need of repair. I am sure the outside pool area will be brilliant in the summer, although the outside furniture needs updating. The garden is in a sad state & currently spoils the view from the room. The woodland path down to the cove is in poor repair and is not suitable for the infirm or elderly." (97309983)
smart stylish reception, lounge, bar and dining rooms. Good room view.
room was in need of renovation, worn wallpaper, furnishings etc. balcony was in fairly poor state. Outside garden areas were in need of clearing and cutting back.
